Interview with Sarah Michelle — Freelance Model

Sarah Michelle is a 20-year old model residing in Orlando, Florida.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello everyone! I go by Sarah Michelle. I am from Maine but have resided in Florida for a little over a year now and I love it! I am currently going to school to get my Registered Nursing License. However, in my mean time I am a traveling bartender and bartend at motorcycle and bike weeks around the United States. It’s an awesome experience and I’ve met a lot of amazing people on my journey of traveling. I plan to take my nursing degree and travel the world. For my hobbies, I love anything outdoors and I work out a lot. I’m always trying new things and looking for new opportunities.

Sarah Michelle in a gardenWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I started modeling when I was in high school. My mother’s friend was trying to branch out her photography from more than weddings and school photographs. So she asked me to do a fashion shoot with her!

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In five years I see myself established with my nursing degree. However my dream is to be an actress and a model for fashion and commercial print magazines. In ten years, I hope to have made a family.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I do a lot of photo shoots around the U.S. Everytime I travel I always try to set up a photo shoot somewhere along the way.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I’ve never really had a bad experience. I always love to goof around and have fun with the photographer. I think a fun atmosphere creates better images.

Sarah Michelle in underwearHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I think the best experiences were when I’ve done beach shoots, because everyone’s staring wondering who you are and exactly what the photos are being used for.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I think exercise is very important not only for physical attributes but for the mental part too. I work out 5 to 7 days a week, typically in the morning so I start off my day with energy. I normally take a protein shake and eat very clean… but hey, everyone has their cheat days!

Would you change anything about yourself?

I feel everyone has something that they want to change about themselves, it’s just everyone’s beautiful in their own way.

What is your favorite thing to do alone?

I love just watching tv or reading a book and drinking a glass of wine!

Interview with Sammie J — Water sport fanatic and model

Sammie J is a 25-year old model residing in Destin, Florida.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m Sammie and I was born in Birmingham AL, now living in Florida. Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved to drive boats; in fact I’ve been driving boats before I could properly talk. My hobbies also include cars -I’m working on getting my racing license with Porsche-, as well as fishing, wakeboard, kneee board, and in general anything on the water I’ve probably done -that’s why my dad says I’m a little fish-. Currently I am attending school for dog grooming, and will eventually open my own shop once I complete the program.

Sammie J holding an electric guitarWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I got involved with modeling about 5 years ago. The International Bikini Model Search came to my town, and had a bikini contest as well as a photo shoot afterwards. I had so much fun I just couldn’t stop there.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goals are to become a groomer, race car driver, and eventually a captain. My modeling isn’t my priority, but if I make it in the industry that would be pretty cool. I enjoy meting the new people and being able to have pictures to show my children and grand children one day.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I do photo shoots, and something I love is getting into the character, although I also love just being myself. Currently I try and model as much as I can, as much as 3 shoots in a week or even just once a month, but I do not do any nudes, though.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My best experience was a big shoot out I went to where all the girls were so nice, we had a lot of fun, and we had to play with cars and there were so many different locations to shoot.

My worst experience was one of my very first shoots, when I went with a girl I sort of knew to a mansion and took pictures all day. Then it came down to being in the bed room and I felt very uncomfortable, took a picture I didn’t really want to take, and then the photographer wouldn’t give me the pictures. In the end I payed him $500 to make him send me my pictures. After that experience, I have learned not to trust everyone who seems like a good person.

Sammie J dressed as a mechanicHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I’ve had a lot of funny things happen to me, and every shoot I go to is always an adventure.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I wish photographers wouldn’t be so mean to overweight models; that is something that hurts my feelings, and I consider those girls have just as much potential as I do, and to be honest, not everyone looks like me. Take that back… lots of people are overweight.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I’m a very active person, always doing something; from building furniture, to water sports, horseback riding and the list goes on. My favorite food is hamburgers!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I performed the nutcracker on Broadway when I was younger.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I would change my boobs, but I don’t want to at the same time, since I know it will bring me back problems… I think I’m OK just the way I am.

If you were the opposite sex for one day, what would you do?

Everything a man would do, I’ve always wanted to be a dude for one day, like what does it feel like to have that stuff just hanging there?

Interview with Taylor Tran — Model and Highly Trained Hip Hop Dancer

Taylor Tran is a 20-year old model residing in Denver, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, but my life now is all mainly Denver based. I’m a full time licensed hair and makeup artist and in my free time I’m either working out, modeling, at church or dancing with my hip hop crew – Academy of Raw/Hype 303 -check us out on YouTube!!- we perform, travel, and compete in various competitions around the US. My greatest priority is to love God and love people!

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I was actually always told I should model since I was super young. I never really looked in to it much. I was in school to be a cosmetologist at the Aveda Institute of Denver and I quickly learned it was a pretty diverse industry, we have access to collaborate with some of Colorado’s best photographers and stylists and more. I saw a flyer for a model call in the institute for the NAHA competition and decided to go and was chosen. Through that, I was asked to model for fellow makeup artists and hairstylists and even photographers that came in to take photos of our work. I started building up a portfolio and just really networked a ton. The idea of being signed to an agency always kind of freaked me out but one of the photographers I worked with really encouraged me to submit to Donna Baldwin Agency and I got signed right away!

Taylor Tran modeling a flowered dressWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Honestly, there’s a lot I want to do. I feel really blessed because it seems to me like my heart and mind have lined up with what God has planned out for me as far as my passions and careers go. I’m not aiming it super far out right now, I’m focusing on the beginning of my career as a hair and makeup artist because I just started 3 weeks ago, building up a stable clientele and making enough to travel and open up opportunities for myself. Do I hope to go further in modeling? Absolutely. That dream also scares the crap out of me because I also know though that it’s a very competitive industry, but I don’t think it’s something I can’t achieve. I hope to move to Cali in the near future.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

It all just kind of depends, the past two months have been super busy for me as a model with Denver Fashion week and shoots and such but it’s all just mainly random. My agent will email me when a client is interested, I also keep contact with many different photographers and love collaborating artistic vision. For me, modeling consists of getting to sleep in and waking up and heading out on location looking like a scrub because they’re going to do your hair and makeup for you – which is one of the best parts. I do mainly print work and photoshoots and also runway, but not as much since I’m shorter than your standard runway model. I’ve done fashion, editorial, glamour, art, commercial, sports and others for portfolio work, magazines, a book cover, and more.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

Best experience was when a photographer and stylist found me on my agency’s site and flew out from South Carolina to work with me, I thought I’d just be traveling around my state shooting with them but I really had an intense spiritual connection with these people. We woke up as early as 4am and road tripped to Georgetown, St. Mary’s Glacier, and Garden of the Gods just shooting, eating good food and exchanging good music and having some really deep talks. It was amazing and I made some incredible friendships. I don’t really think I’ve had a worst experience, my very first photo shoot was for a hair competition and they dyed my hair neon orange which I thought was going to be awful, but it faded really pretty and I actually kept it for a long time.

Taylor Tran modeling black lingerieHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Probably just the photo shoot I talked about with the people that traveled from South Carolina, totally out of the ordinary. Loved it though. I don’t think I’ve had anything embarrassing happen… Yet!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I noticed that it’s more common now so I guess it is changing a little! I would change the majority of the height requirements for top agencies to 5’7″… Mainly because I’m 5’7″ hehe.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I do! Dance is probably one of my very greatest passions above most. I’m a hip hop dancer with one of Colorado’s finest hip hop crews called Academy of Raw, formerly Hype 303. We practice 4 days a week and do various performances, battles, competitions, an more. We also travel and compete around the US and have dance fam in places like LA, Hawaii, Vegas, even the UK. We do a lot of intense training and working out. I also try to workout on my own as often as possible, mainly cardio and strength training, I’m a fan of HIIT and I also run a lot. Nutrition has recently become a lot more important to me and I mainly eat clean. I drink a lot of smoothies and try to avoid chicken nuggets which is actually the hardest thing in the world. Just saying.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m actually a very passionate writer. I write poetry, I write what inspires me, I write about my daily life, where I’m going, what I’m experiencing, and more. I have kept consistent journals from the moment I’ve been able to write when I was young and I know for a fact my life wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t. I don’t know why but I’ve always had a strong instinct to document and express absolutely everything in that way.

Taylor Tran showing her blonde hairWould you change anything about yourself?

I want an inch! Just one more inch! I always say that. Haha.

Have you ever gone without wearing underwear all day? Why & what did you do?

Let’s be real here, I’m a very spacey person, always have been. When I was in kindergarten, I wore a really pretty and flowy light blue dress with blue and green flowers all over and and a blue cardigan to daycare one day, and as I was outside on the playground I noticed a breeze that I didn’t notice before. I panicked and sat down and cried and refused to tell the teacher or anyone why for hours because who forgets their underwear? Me, that’s who. I can remember exactly what I was wearing years ago on the specific day but I can’t remember my own underwear. That’s talent.

Interview with Sophia Harris — Childhood outcast to model

Sophia Harris is a 16-year old model residing in Denver, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in South Brisbane,Australia-the home of my father but moved back to Dubai in the UAE within weeks of being born. My father is Australian and my mother is a South African and Canadian who moved to America when she was 12 year ols. My four siblings and I however grew up in Dubai and the rest of my family live there still, at 16 I decided to make the move to America by myself to finish high school here. My profession is simply a high school student which is pretty much a full time job in itself but over the last six years of my life I have acted professionally in short films and professional plays as well as modeling in my spare time.

As you can probably tell I am incredibly interested in acting. I have six years of professional training in the Stanislavski method and hope to pursue acting full time once I graduate high school. My other hobbies include running and writing, as a former track and field athlete I developed an addiction to it and go crazy if I can’t run at least five times a week. In addition to acting I hope to become a screenwriter so I dedicate several hours a week to developing and writing my screenplays; I have thirteen so far!.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first began modeling four years ago at the age of 12, at the time I was living in Dubai, a city fast becoming one of the fashion capitals of the world. I don’t have a particularly interesting scouting story – I was asked one day at a makeup convention by the director of a modeling agency if I had any interest in modeling. After shooting my portfolio and signing with them my career begun! I don’t really know why I begun modeling but trust me -no one was more shocked than I when I did!

As a child my appearance was made fun of constantly – I had curly red hair, extremely pale skin, freckles and hooded almond shaped blue eyes. I stood out among a sea of brunettes and blondes with their tanned skin and round eyes. It made me an easy target and resulted in needless bullying. So the idea of my appearance ever earning me money seems like a ridiculous idea to me initially; however, as I soon discovered it was all the things I had been made fun of for that made me so successful.

Sophia Harris showing her long hair and a hatWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In five years I want to be living in LA, finding at least some success as an actress in film and television hopefully negotiating the sale of one of my screenplays! As a person, I hope to become less shy and introverted -I am a tried and true INTJ personality type!. I would also like to be able to say that I had maintained my morals and continued to conduct myself in a dignified manner.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Previously I modeled more, every other week probably. It may not seem like much but I did it at the same time as I was attending school full time. I mainly do commercial photoshoots but I have previously done editorials. Unfortunately I am far too short for the catwalk!

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience I have ever had in modeling was several years ago. The photoshoot was for the Hasselblad Camera and was titled ‘We’re sisters not colors’. Two other models, one black and one Asian, and I all dressed up with elaborate hairstyles and makeup had colored powder thrown at us and we were encouraged to play in ti whilst pictures were taken. The photos that came out were so beautiful and real whilst still promoting the idea of equality and unity among people.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Thankfully I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything truly bizarre or embarrassing throughout my career. However working in Dubai was defiantly a unique experience in itself as the way business is conducted is completely different!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I would most certainly change the height and size requirements. The proportions they ask for promote an incredibly unhealthy lifestyle and really encourage many girls to starve themselves.

Sophia Harris hiding her face behind a fanDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I run frequently as well as doing strength and toning exercises daily. I usually eat a piece of gluten free bread with nutella on it -love that stuff!- for breakfast, a small meal consisting of protein and vegetables for lunch and a larger meal consisting of protein, carbohydrates and vegetables for dinner. Throughout the day I get incredibly hungry so I snack on fruit and granola bars as well as chocolate coconut milk. On the whole, I try to avoid gluten and dairy as I don’t react well to either of them. Throughout the week I eat consistently and healthily but I allow myself one treat on the weekend -it’s all about moderation! Nutrition and exercise are incredibly important to me because in order to be successful in this industry I have to maintain my weight and body constantly. However, I am also a firm believer in staying healthy and not starving yourself -you will not model forever but you will have to live with your body forever. So why destroy it in exchange for a few years of success?

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Most people don’t know that I attended a British Curriculum school for most of my education resulting in my slightly warped accent and vocabulary!

Would you change anything about yourself?

If I could change one thing about myself it would be my hair-I would kill for thinner, straight hair! Curly hair is such a pain and mine is far too long and thick to be able to do anything with!

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I have a legitimate phobia, and I took psychology for two years so I know the difference between a fear and a phobia, of crustaceans. As in crabs and lobsters. Just seeing them results in a full blown, completely legitimate panic attack and I just can’t even. I’m also terrified of moths and butterflies, something I only discovered after being taken on a trip to a butterfly pavilion. Cue screaming and crying.

Interview with Cami Annette — Model, Writer, and Web Designer

Cami Annette is a 25-year old model residing in San Francisco, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Howdy, folks! I am a professional netizen by day and a fitness and lifestyle model by…well…also by day! Born in Oakland, California, I am the youngest of three girls. I get my height -5’10- from both parents: my mom is 6’1 and my dad is 6’3!.

I can usually be found walking my two dogs, Boise and Paco. Hiking and HIIT, which stands for high-intensity interval training, are my favorite forms of exercise and how I spend most of my free time.

Cami Annette modeling a white bikiniWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I’m a noob to the modeling world, having just started in September 2014. I’ve done shoots for friends over the years, but only recently decided to pursue modeling professionally. So far everyone I’ve met and worked with has been amazing; I feel so blessed to have had the opportunities I’ve had so far and really look forward to what the future has in store.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In addition to appearing in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition, I would love to publish a book. I also want to return to school and earn a second Bachelor’s in computer science.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I’ve been shooting a couple times a week since early October. I mainly do photoshoots, but have a video shoot coming up in the next couple weeks. The last photoshoot I did was for HP Computers, which was shot by the fabulous Doug Adesko.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Eek. Once I had a photographer pull out his “friend” while we were reviewing my photos on his computer. Needless to say, I never shot with him again.

Cami Annette wearing a bridal dressDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I am a regular yogi and practice about twice a week. My favorite type of yoga is “power” or Ashtanga yoga. I also do HIIT in the form of an abs class at my gym twice a week. Finally, I walk at least 6 miles a day with my dogs and try and hike three times a week.

Nutritionally, however, I am all over the place. I try and eat a hearty piece of meat, either steak or a pork chop, three days a week. I hydrate regularly with fresh water as well as C2O coconut water. Otherwise, I don’t really eat anything on a consistent basis and often let my body guide me toward certain foods.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I once gave bone marrow in college. SO painful, but SO worth saving a life.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Yes! I would stop thinking so much. Physically, I’d probably correct the scar that appears next to my right nostril. I was bitten by a dog about three years ago and the scar remains.

Where is the weirdest place you’ve ever peed?

In my backyard. I was training my puppy to use the potty outside and figured I’d show her how it was done! She’s fully housetrained now thanks to me, ha!

Interview with The Baker Twins — “Slashy”, Model and Actress

The Baker Twins are 25-year old models residing in Los Angeles.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

We are known as the ‘Baker Twins’. We grew up in northern Canada in a little reservation called the ‘Stellat’en First Nation’. The population of our reservation is only about 200 people. We grew up hunting, fishing and hiking. We had a very different upbringing than a lot of people and usually people get very surprised when they find out where we were raised and where we are from.

We grew up in a place where your whole family takes part in raising you. That includes your mother, Grandmother, Aunts and Uncles. Your cousins are more like your brothers and sisters than your cousins.

We have a ton of hobbies including working out, hiking, rock climbing, cross fit, tennis, jogging and writing. We are actors, models, film makers, photographers and producers.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

We got involved in modeling right after we graduated from high school. A few photographers approached us about modeling. However, we watched quite a few 20/20 episodes and were way too paranoid to take the jobs. Then one day we got a card from a photographer when we were shopping and decided to do our research on him. It turned out the photographer worked on quite a few magazines. It was our very first modeling job and we were very happy when we discovered that the images were published in a magazine.

The Baker TwinsWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Our personal and professional goals are one in the same. We want to be actors that can pick and choose the movies that we get to do while keeping healthy and fit by eating healthy and working out.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

We take about 1 to 2 modeling jobs a week. It used to be a lot more when we first started modeling. Our goals have changed dramatically compared to the beginning of our modeling careers. We are mainly focusing on acting and have collectively decided that 2 jobs per week is the maximum amount of shoots we are willing to do so we can 100% focus on acting. We mainly do print modeling jobs. But, when we first started modeling we took a lot of runway modeling jobs. We were very fortunate with our modeling careers in that we were able to travel by modeling internationally.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience in modeling is being able to travel. We have traveled to various places around the world and without modeling that wouldn’t have been made possible. Modeling opened a lot of doors so we have so many positive experiences.

The worst experience is probably seeing the lengths that some models are willing to go to stay thin. We feel like the industry is changing in that in some countries they make sure the models are a certain weight. But, the peer pressure to try to stay thin in order to book jobs still exists.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

We were booked on our very first runway job for fashion week. We were so excited that we booked the job that we got ready and curled our hair and used way too much hair product. We also did our own make up. We didn’t know that when you go to a modeling job you go with a clean face and clean hair. We also didn’t know that the booking agent booked us based on our dead straight hair. The hair stylists couldn’t straighten our hair because we used too much hair product. The models and the production knew right away how “green” we were. The show ended up by only giving us a few looks so we weren’t used as much s the other models. The whole experience was quite embarrassing.

The Baker Twins dressed like high school studentsIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

We think kids should be allowed to be kids. So many agencies are taking on kid models instead of women. If you are under 18 you should be given the opportunity to be a kid and do what teenagers do instead of being thrust into the industry where there can be a lot of pressures to look a certain way or act “grown up”. Just because you may be taller or look older doesn’t mean that you should act like an adult.

We have a teenage sister whose name is Emily Graceanna. Since she was 12 years old she has had many modeling agencies that have wanted to represent her. Our mom and dad decided to not let her get a modeling agent until she was old enough to decide that was what she wanted to do. Allowing a child to be a child is so important.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

We play tennis, crossfit and workout a lot. We typically eat a paleo diet. However, we do have cheat days. Nutrition and exercise has become a huge aspect of our lives. When we first started modeling there was a lot of pressure from people in the industry that would stress to us to not work out too much out of fear of us becoming too “muscular”. I think more and more people in the industry are realizing the importance of fitness and healthy food.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

We grew up on a native reservation hunting and fishing, and a lot of people don’t know that we have a small weakness for gaming. Call of duty is definitely our game of choice.

Would you change anything about yourself?

We would have a bigger booty. That is why we do so many lunges and squats when we work out.

What superpower do you wish you had? Why?

It would definitely be to fly.

Interview with Colette Stone — Pin-Up, Art Model

Colette Stone is a 23-year old model residing in Burbank, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in rural Maine and raised in and out of foster care there. I developed a love for theatre very early on and grew up performing in school, community and professional theatrical productions in the state. Growing up, I knew I wanted to be a film actress but my interest in modeling wasn’t sparked until later on. Whenever I have free time, which I very rarely do, I am generally reading, working on my novel and screenplay or having lunch with a good friend. I am a full-time model and actress.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

It’s funny because I knew very early on that I wanted to be a film actress but I never even dreamed of becoming a model or had any interest in fashion or magazines growing up. When I was seventeen, I stumbled across Model Mayhem just by chance and signed up. I remember sitting up one night just browsing photographers in the New England area and becoming so inspired by so many beautiful images. Then I’m not really sure what happened, I just began shooting and it became first a creative outlet for me and then turned into some sort of obsession.

Colette Stone in a garden wearing a white dress What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In five to ten years I see myself continuing my work as an actress and as a model though at a higher place. My personal goals include settling down in one location, seeing more of the world and making time for a relationship, since I’ve never been in one.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I’ve been modeling full-time for four years now and shoot quite often though I am more and more selective these days. I would say I mainly do photo-shoots though I’ve appeared in nearly 25 small, independent films. I am mainly hired as an art, pin-up or fashion model though the type of jobs I am offered vary greatly. I think some would say there is a lot of eroticism and fetishistic elements incorporated into my work as well.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I have had almost entirely good experiences throughout my career but then again, I have turned down many job opportunities over the years due to safety concerns. The worst experiences were not so bad and perhaps not worth talking about.

I view every shoot as an opportunity to develop a relationship, however short term, with someone I otherwise never would have met. I try to remember to ask a lot of questions to the artists I meet because I may never get to again. I try to remember to be free in that moment, above all and my favorite experiences are the times where the artist I worked with and I just clicked and something magical happened. My favorite experiences are always the ones where I feel comfortable just existing and I feel myself being captured exactly as I am in that moment. The times where I showed up to a photographer’s studio sad and they didn’t ask me to be happy, they just let me be and found beauty and honesty in it and it was captured and now I can hold it in my hand.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I think at least 75% of the people I have worked with have been funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary! I don’t have any stories that come to mind though, really just beautiful memories that pop up every once in a while in my mind when I fondly remember their quirks!

Colette Stone wearing a yellow dressIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I don’t really work in the “modeling industry.” I have been signed in the past but no longer and I am mostly hired as an artist with no intention of using the images for commercial purposes.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Oh, I am quite terrible when it comes to nutrition and health and I really don’t recommend that anyone follow my lead. My eating habits follow my emotions. Sometimes I don’t eat anything at all, sometimes an excessive amount and my exercise habits are the same. Thankfully, my body continues to look young and acceptable.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I am a bookworm and an introvert! I will read anything I can get my hands on and enjoy being alone with a good book over a party. Sometimes I have to force myself to be less reclusive.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Oh god! I have learned to tolerate my physical appearance over the years and have been less and less horrible to myself. I do like the look that I have cultivated but I almost always refuse to be shot without make-up due to insecurities about my appearance. I’ll just say that I wouldn’t ever change my appearance even if I am sometimes critical and you certainly won’t see any changes made to my face or body in upcoming years!

What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done?

I don’t really know what the “most kinky,” thing I have ever done is – I think it’s all pretty equal. I have been a fetishist for a long time and I enjoy dominance and submission, bondage, stockings, corsets, heels, older men and women -mommy and daddy themes-, asphyxiation, lipstick and I’m sure many other things!

Interview with Brooke Haag — Spontaneous, Ambitious, Gregarious

Brooke Haag is a 19-year old model residing in San Francisco, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in Los Gatos, CA, and have 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and a very complicated family background. I love volleyball, dancing, singing, acting, and have a passion for children.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first started when I lived in Washington when I was living with my foster parents. My oldest sister was living in LA modeling and I had always looked up to her so I thought I would try it out. I started booking gigs through model mayhem and then I found myself walking in a nike runways show in Seattle. Things happened relatively quick and I was told I’m very adaptable, especially since I’ve gone through many different transitions in my life.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I personally wish to be a young female entrepreneur. I currently work at Bay Area Medical Academy as the executive assistant to the CEO. She is a female entrepreneur herself so I’ve been learning the ropes on how to start my own business. Although I’m not interested in the medical field, I can still use this experience to execute my own dreams. I hope to move back to Los Angeles soon and really make a name for myself, not for the sake that I want to be “famous” but because I have a very unconventional, inspiring story in my opinion and I want to help others up and see many success stories like myself arise. I hope to start my own non-profit one day as well as travel the world for my entertainment abilities. I also have this secret talent of writing rap lyrics.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I try to model when I can on the weekends. With this new job I have it’s a little difficult, but I make time. I mainly do photoshoots and runway. I never do any nude or too revealing shoots. I am a very classy lady with a little sass in my style and I will keep it that way.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

Best experiences is working with a really great crew and being able to meet other very talented models. For example I met my best friend at a very unique outdoor runway show. It was described as a “Fash-Mob” so quite literally a random runway show starting in the middle of San francisco. Worst experiences I would say when you get a flakey photographer or you’ve been lead to believe the shoot style would be different than originally expressed.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

The industry is rough. It’s very much so like a battlefield, but the ones who do well, know where they are going and proceed with confidence. I would change the agencies attitudes if I could. I feel like everyone is so selfish in regards to their “cut” of what they make and they’re not actually focusing on the product.

Brooke Haag wearing a bridal dressDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I play volleyball! I played for Santa Monica College. I try to eat healthy but there’s the occasional in n out burger, I mean c’mon… I am a Cali Girl. I love making protein smoothies with my liquid vitamin shot of Vemma which stands for Vitamins, Essential Minerals, Mangosteen and Aloe. I had really bad inflammation due to volleyball so Mangosteen really helps with that. I’ve also noticed that I haven’t gotten sick since I started drinking products that have the super-fruit mangosteen. I would say Vemma is my favorite heath and wellness company because there are so many different products that have such great health benefits. I always drink a BODE shake after my workouts and it really keeps my tone on point. I am lactose free so I love my almond milk!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I didn’t know about my little sister until she was 3. I was the princess of Kingston, Washington because I did scholarship pageants back in high school. I was on the Queen Latifah Show and Jimmey Kimmel.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change a thing… except for maybe taking back when my friend threw the handle to my old fashioned red wagon, when I was 8, on my face because I had to get 9 stitches on my face that caused hair not to grow on a little patch of my eyebrow. I love my full eyebrows, but it’s a pain to fill in a little spot each time.

Have you ever stolen anything?

I’ve stolen toothpaste from Walgreens once. I have a fetish about clean teeth. My wallet had just gotten stolen and I had no way to pay for toothpaste since I was about to go camping.

Lauren Rebecca Roth is a 20-year old model residing in Chicago, Illinois. Currently in her senior year studying Psychology and English she has a background in musical theatre and is very comfortable in front of the camera. Having spent plenty of time around fashion designers, Lauren has developed her own unique but vastly diverse style so she can lend it to those projects she’s hired for. When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first got started when I was asked to participate in an Akria runway show, when I started from there photographers took notice and instantly wanted to photograph me. It was great! My first shoot was published in Dark Beauty Magazine and I was hooked on modeling ever since.

Lauren Rebecca Roth sitting on a couchWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In the next ten years I see myself having completed a law degree and having traveled the world as a successful model, finally settling down and getting married.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I model three to four times a week, mainly working photoshoots but also doing runway and video work. I mainly do fashion, but I am very popular for wedding photography, commercial, and films.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I’ve had a vast array of experiences, many are too long to simply type out, but my best has been working with my mentor, Chris Neumer. We work together as much as possible as we’re always talking on the phone of fun cool shoots we can do together.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I’ve had a lot of funny experiences, most too long to type out. Not really anything embarrassing. I try to be my best while on set. What I find extraordinary is when I am walking around and people recognize me, or when I go to premiers for things I have worked on. It’s always great to have those moments.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I’m happy with where the industry is and where it is going, towards health rather than just being thin.

Lauren Rebecca Roth wearing underwearDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I kickbox, run, and do insanity workouts with my father. As far as eating, I keep a healthy diet, by eating very fresh and try not to eat GMO foods.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Not many people know I love doing charity work. I wanted to go to Thailand for mission work but wanted to finish my undergrad first.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Not really. I’m pretty content with the way I look now, if anything I’d make myself a few inches taller.

Are you currently in a relationship? How would you describe your partner?

I currently have a boyfriend of two years, and this is our second apartment together. He’s my better half. He’s very calm, understanding, intelligent, outgoing…basically the perfect balance for me.

Interview with Yumi Kaeko — Creative and eccentric young model

Yumi Kaeko is a 19-year old model residing in North Hollywood, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Well I was born in Northridge, CA but moved a lot over Southern California throughout my life, primarily in the Inland Empire. I knew from a young age that I wanted to move to Los Angeles and pursue the entertainment business, fashion, modeling, and art. I graduated high school early last year and moved out to pursue a fashion degree at an art school in the Los Angeles area. I knew that the suburban, picket fenced Inland Empire had nothing to offer me.

I enjoy writing poetry, short stories, Japanese pop culture, going out, graphic design, dance, creating art, and singing. I have lot of active interests and am currently trying to nail down exactly what I’d like to do in the future. I’ve been writing since I was six and recently am getting another poem published. I’ve been interested in anime and Japanese fashion since fifth grade and have loved taking inspiration from these subcultures in my art and design. I also love rave culture: the fashion, the ideals and concepts, etc.

I’m currently a full time student, freelance model, and part time cam girl.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I’ve always been told since I was young that I should be a model because I was so lean and tall. At sixteen, I decided to make a Model Mayhem account and pursue building a portfolio before I moved to the city for college in the fall. I always liked the idea of alternative or kawaii style modeling. My idols were Amelia Nightmare and Japanese gravure AV models. I knew I could attain modeling in Los Angeles and took the steps to start modeling ahead of time.

Yumi Kaeko reading a magazineWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

There are a lot of different ideas floating around my head, but whatever I do career in the long term, I know that I want it to be creative and hands on. I’ve been mulling over pursuing graphic design as a degree because I love Photoshop and Illustrator. I have also been thinking about establishing my own fashion collectible. I’d also like to publish some books and become discovered as a visual artist. I’m coming out with my own personal membership site this Halloween and know that I’d like to continue in the gravure and alternative style of modeling.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I was modeling several times a month, but have taken a break to prepare for my site launch. My modeling was mostly glamour and fetish photo shoots because that is more my style of modeling. I occasionally will get editorial fashion also.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experiences I’ve had were a really funny photo shoot for a fetish and Burlesque show that I was a part of. It was Alice and Wonderland themed and a really good time to shoot. The outfits were really creative and kawaii and all of the people and models were very nice. The atmosphere was also very relaxed and I love that.
One of the worst experiences I’ve had was having a very unprofessional photographer. He showed up around thirty minutes late to meet, and he was a horrid retoucher. Among many other faux pas, he gave me seven fingers in Photoshop and didn’t notice until I pointed it out. Needless to say, I never worked with him again.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

If I could change anything about the modeling industry, I would make it less narrow. Being a mixed race model with a septum ring and usually colored hair, it can be hard to get photo shoots, even being thin and tall. I can’t imagine how much harder it is for other models who are petite or have more alterations. I think it would be great if the modeling industry embraced different types of girls more often.

Yumi Kaeko next to a mirrorDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I have never been one for sports, since I’m very clumsy, but enjoy exercise in the gym or regularly walking. I am an avid Zumba goer. I love dance incorporated into exercise because then it feels more fun and natural to me. I also currently don’t have a car, so I get regular exercise just getting where I’m going. I thought I would hate it when I moved out here, but now I enjoy going out and walking. Not only am I getting a light workout, but I also get to be a part of my surroundings and notice things I may not normally notice, like a new shop or grocery.
I’m a vegetarian and believe it’s one of the best decisions I could have made. I grew up in a household were my mother was on and off vegan or vegetarian, and our food was made from scratch and with nutritious ingredients. I think that made a big impact on how I eat now. I can’t really stomach fast food, and buy whole grains vs white, egg whites vs eggs, soymilk vs milk, and so on. I also live Cliff Bars and Naked juice. I value my future health and don’t usually have a taste for junk food, and if I do, I make a healthy alternative.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Something people may not know about me is that I love to cook. One of my favorite things to do is cook for friends and family or make a meal for myself. I have a great wheat, 4-cheese baked Mac and cheese recipe and I love making egg white omelettes. When I cook, I use lots of different seasonings and vegetables and love seeing other’s reactions.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change anything about myself, because everything I am has allowed me to be the strong young woman I am today. I used to think that I wanted to change my teeth or be taller, but I feel that my teeth have given me character and my height isn’t significant enough to change. I just wish I was as tall as my parents at least. My mother is 5″8 and my dad is 6″2, but I’m only 5″7.

What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done?

One of the kinkiest things I’ve ever done was shibari rope fetish shoot where I was completely tied up in a Japanese schoolgirl outfit. I had never been tied before, and the feeling was very euphoric and invigorating. It made me become more interested in shibari rope play. I’m already active in the fetish community, so shibari rope play became something I was interested in doing outside of the shoot with my significant other.
