Interview with Anashi — Cosplay enthusiast and model

Anashi is a 24-year old model residing in Salem, Massachusetts.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in the states, New Jersey to be specific but I didn’t really live there. My family traveled all around and maybe that’s why I have such wanderlust and a restless spirit. I’m Czech but unfortunately I don’t know much about my family’s background. I’m also a super big nerd who loves comics, anime, video games, manga, cosplay, you name it, and I also draw and would love to work in the comic or movie industry.

Anashi modeling red hairWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

My mom had me in beauty pageants and things when I was really little but I started a few years ago just as a hobby cause a lot of people were telling me I have a good look for it. I just basically posted a profile on Model Mayhem and immediately starting booking shoots and shows.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

If modeling could get me into the movie industry that’d be amazing but other than that I’m really hoping to get my foot in the door with my art. Maybe do character designs for Disney and Pixar or work on comics or video games. Being a paid professional cosplayer who regularly attends conventions would be pretty amazing also!

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

My modeling varies from infrequently to booking shoots and events several times a week. I mainly do photo-shoots but I get called for local fashion shows and video shoots. I’ve done some fashion, art, glamour, editorial, and a lot of the shoots I’ve been to are the kind of “supply your own stuff” so I supply the clothes and I usually do my own hair and makeup also.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I haven’t had a lot of really bad experiences to be honest. I did work with a really amazing photographer from New York who ended up never giving me pictures from our shoot. I was very heartbroken about it because we basically spent all day on this shoot and we were both so excited about the outcome of the shots.

Anashi behind the scenes PCIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

You know, some of the most insecure people I know are models and I don’t think it’s a coincidence. There’s this image that we have to look a certain way, be a certain weight and it’s not healthy and so many of the people that I’ve met and worked with are so beautiful and they still are pouring over their flaws and obsessing over how they could fix them. It’s always good to strive to be better and be the best that you can be but you should never do it to an unhealthy extent…

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I’m not much of a sport person, never have been but I’ve always been very active. I try to go to the gym 4 to 6 days a week and while I’m there I always do weight lifting and at least some cardio. I always change it up though. As for what I eat, I don’t eat much meat but I do indulge in sushi, mainly raw salmon and I do eat eggs. Other than that it’s a lot of veggies and rice, quinoa, basically I try to eat as healthy as I can but I do drink loads of coffee haha.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I think there’s things all of us don’t like about ourselves and honestly sure I could say I wish I had a smaller nose or a less round face but these things make me a unique looking person. As far as personality goes I’m a bit of a procrastinator and I do get moody from time to time… I’ve always wanted to be one of those girls that people say “she’s so sweet” but I’m stuck with my resting bitch face and my sarcastic humor.

How do you think you are most likely to die?

I’d really love to say that if I die I’d like to die doing something exciting but I think in all actuality, when I die it’ll be something really stupid and my last thought will be “wow, I can’t believe this is happening” or “well that didn’t work out as planned” haha.

Interview with Victoria Sea — Short but talented

Victoria Sea is a 18-year old model residing in Los Angeles, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am a born and breed California girl. I grew up in the greater Los Angeles area with my parents, and my older twin sisters. I have lived there all of my life, except for three months I spent in Maui, and three months I spent in Nashville. Traveling is one of my life passions, and I do not feel comfortable leaving a place until I feel like I have seen it completely. I fell in love with swimming from the first time I ever got in a pool, and have been nicknamed “Fishy” ever since.

I grew up dancing, singing, and acting, but when I had my first photo shoot, and knew that that was the path for me. I have interests in careers, besides modeling, such as fashion, real estate, and anything that could get me a job by the beach for the rest of my life. Some of my favorite things are rice, bathing suits, peonies, the Pacific Ocean, rainy weather, and Christmas lights.

Victoria Sea wearing jeansWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I had my first photo shoot when I was 16. My boyfriend was an incredible musician and had all this passion and direction for what he wanted to do with his life, and it would always drive me crazy that I didn’t have the same kind of love for anything. I knew I loved being out there in the industry, and wanted to be a face people recognized, but I didn’t love any of the things that could get me there: singing, dancing or acting.

One day, I was on tumblr and I saw this picture of Rosie Huntington-Whitely, and I couldn’t shake the feeling of how rad it would be to see a picture of myself like that. I told my dad I wanted to model, and so he got out his camera and started taking pictures of me. Still in my school uniform, hair a mess, I posed for those pictures like no tomorrow. They came out awful, and I never showed a soul but that’s when I really knew that this was something I enjoyed. On my first photo shoot with Rage Models, where I was previously signed but not anymore, the hair, the makeup, the outfits. I was in heaven. From that test shoot in the owner’s house, I knew that this was a dream I had to chase.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My personal goal is to find what makes me happy, and to chase that. For now, that’s modeling, traveling, and constantly being around the people that make me smile.

My professional goal is to prove that you don’t have to be 5’10 to be a model. I believe that although I am vertically challenged, I have everything it takes to be a well-known and working model in the industry. I hope that in 5 to 10 years, I am modeling full time, traveling the world, and showing people that if you really want something, ignore the odds and the restrictions, and make it happen anyway.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

This summer I really started getting into it, and had at least two photo shoots each week. It’s a bit slower right now, while I am in school but I am actually changing some things for next semester so that I can focus more on modeling. I do mainly photo shoots, but I have done a few videos as well. My shoots have been mostly fashion and for clothing companies.

Victoria Sea wearing full jean clothingPlease tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My very best experience so far absolutely has to be Project Mermaids. Project Mermaids is a save our oceans campaign, where they take pictures of celebrities and models as mermaids to ultimately raise money to support saving our oceans. I’ve been obsessed with mermaids for as long as I can remember, so this was absolutely a dream come true. I took land pictures, and underwater pictures at Catalina Island. They just recently had their kick off party in Venice, California, where there was a 9-foot print of me as a mermaid in the center of the gallery, surrounded by celebrities and other models. It was the coolest.

I haven’t had many bad experiences modeling, except for the occasional scams that I almost fall for and or the creepy photographer that texts me pictures of his face before our photo shoot.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Not much, I was one time at this one photo shoot that started at 9am. The photographer, let’s just say, was not my style. This person wanted to place me for every shot, tilting my head just a little bit before taking the picture. It was so painfully slow, I was there until 7pm, not to mention I was only running on 3 hours of sleep.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

My biggest frustration about the modeling industry is the height discrimination. If you are not at least 5’8, agencies won’t even look at your profile. This is my biggest challenge for sure. As a 5’5 model, getting signed has not exactly been a walk in the park. But there are other ways to model besides agencies, and it’s definitely taught me a lesson in fighting for something you really want. I would love to see agencies lower the height requirement for print models, not everyone that’s applying wants to walk runway!

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I am a yogi. I do yoga every chance I have, whether it’s going to a class or whipping out my matt at the end of the night when I really need a good meditation. Yoga is really important for strength building. I accompany yoga with Pilates and sometimes spin to work out all muscles, but the yoga classes have my heart. Other than that, I run almost everyday, and swim whenever I can. Gyms and me do not get along. I have to be outside, or in a class. I am a very picky eater. I have always loved healthy foods, and live for my local Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. I was a vegetarian for three years. Now I’ve added chicken to my diet, but basically stick to a vegetarian meal plan.

Victoria Sea sitting on a tall chairPlease share something people don’t know about you.

I am a Sagittarius, I can touch my tongue to my nose, I’m allergic to dairy, chocolate, and onions, water and  tea are my favorite beverages, I absolutely hate texting, I would take coffee bean over Starbucks any day, if I could sell my soul to turn my legs into fins, I would seriously consider it, I love the sun, but I also love sweaters and wish that they would just get along and let me have both, I have to sleep on the left side of the bed, I have a phobia of feet, and I buy myself sunflowers regularly.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I’m not perfect, no one, but Blake Lively is, but I try really hard not to look in the mirror and create a list of things that I wish were different. Sure, if I could have a perfect body without working out, and be a few inches taller, I wouldn’t complain, but I think these imperfections are in my life for a reason. Having to work out constantly builds character, and makes you much more proud of the result than if it were just always there. And being short has made modeling harder for me, but has shown me a place where I could make a difference.

Where is the weirdest place you’ve ever peed?

One time when I was much younger, I went to an elementary school playground with my friend. I really needed to pee, but it was a saturday that meant the bathrooms were locked. We had walked a long way to get to the park, and we weren’t ready to go home yet, so I decided to squat in the bushes, no big deal. But right as I started to go, a security guard came out of no where, my friend dove was behind the bush to warn me but it was too late, I was mid stream. She quite literally cupped her hands under me and caught my pee to stop the sound so we wouldn’t get caught. Talk about a friendship right there.

Interview with Monique Giselle — Petite Model and Actress with BIG dreams

Monique Giselle is a 20-year old model residing in Claremont, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name Is Monique Giselle I’m 20 years old, I was born in a small town in southern California, Claremont, California. When I graduated High School in 2012 I had high hopes to Attend FIDM, a fashion school in Los Angeles but could not afford tuition so I decided to work part-time jobs to save up to be able to attend. I was going through a lot after graduating and did not feel motivated to do much at all. I was working here and there but nothing in my life was together. I had no idea where my future was going. After a year of doing practically nothing, I gained the courage to begin modeling which was always a big dream of mine, I was working at a very busy Starbucks in LA and began modeling for small companies before and after work. I then became very serious about modeling and was so passionate about my work I was able to make enough money to quit my job at starbucks and travel freely for modeling. Now I am modeling and acting full time and wouldn’t change that for the world! In my free time I enjoy hiking, beach trips and surrounding myself with people that fully support me in everything I do!

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I got involved in the modeling industry about two years ago. I believe that there is no answer to how to get into modeling, It’s a constant question I’ve been asked many times! But the truth is, if your mind and heart are in it fully, you will find a way to make your dreams come true! Just talking to strangers or people who know about the industry see your passion and drive and willingly want to help you.

Why I got involved with modeling: Well I feel that it’s almost every little girl’s dream when they are young to be a famous model, actress or singer but life carries you away from that dream, people are so accustomed to you go to school, then you go to college and then you get a good job and live comfortably and if you do something different then that’s wrong. But that drive for this industry never really left my heart, my whole entire life this is what I’ve wanted to do and I did have my struggles where I lost sight of that but never has it truly gone away.

Monique Giselle with Golden Gate in the backgroundWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I have many goals that will all take a lot of time and money but in the future I hope to have a Private label clothing company called Moniquegiselle and focus on Women, teens and childrens apparel, I hope to own a petite modeling agency and open up the industry to that because small girls are beautiful too, I hope to make the cover of a magazine, I hope to land a lead role in a movie, and be casted for a TV show and then begin writing songs, films and web series. I hope to do a bit of everything in the industry and show my talents and diversity. And I hope to travel the world and see everything and gather inspiration from other cultures. In 5 to ten years, I hope to be walking the red carpet accepting an Emmy!

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I’m modeling now about 3 times a week, more or less. I also do acting which keeps me really busy as well. The hours are long and you could have a 3 hour day but most likely you’ll have a 15 hour day.

With modeling, I feel it’s important to show diversity and show that you are comfortable and confident with yourself. I’ve done pretty much every category of modeling from swim, to implied to runway to website catalogues for clothing companies!

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I’ve had so many. As a Traveling Freelance model I’ve worked with so many people and all of them have a different story. One of my best and worst experiences in modeling was being up in The bay area. I was booked for a photo shoot with a photographer that was very creative and always had the best photos, but you had to do something crazy in order to get those shots. So I knew it was going to be a long day. At the time he was working on what he called “The Fruit Project” so He came back from the store with strawberries and jam galore! I was laying on the White cyclorama completely nude being covered in strawberries, on my face, in my hair and down my entire body until everything was covered! and I also had on in my mouth so I couldn’t talk the entire shoot because I couldn’t move or everything would fall off. The AC was also on high in the studio so after about 30 minutes I was also shaking from the cold but we continued for another hour just to get the shot! After we were done I was freezing and a mess and not sure how the pictures were going to turn out but when they were sent over it was so worth everything we did to get those shots! That’s one shoot I’ll never forget!

Monique Giselle wearing a swimsuitHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Many! working with so many photographers you constantly get something new everytime you shoot! From constantly being hit -on from people who are unprofessional and don’t know the industry to climbing down steep unsteady rocks to get a cool shot by the ocean! I think the hardest thing is working in freezing cold weather during a shoot because you have to focus on your face and body on top of trying not to shiver and cry to your mom to go home! just kidding! kind of…

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I would definitely change the height limitations. That has always been my struggle although I try not to let it limit me. But it’s just the truth an it’s just the industry. There are just many castings that will only take models 5’7 or higher and that’s what agencies want as well. So I want to change the industry so that small petite girls such as myself have more jobs and people accept us the same way they would as they would a girl who’s 5’11.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I don’t practice sports per se, I do run and hike at least 3 times a week and go to the gym once or twice as well. I eat pretty healthy. The truth is with modeling and acting, what you eat really does matter! if you eat healthy your face is clearer, your eyes are brighter, your body is tighter, and that all shows up in photos. The amount of sleep you get, affects your energy and vibe on the floor. Everything factors in and really does matter. So people may think you’re crazy when you’re drinking ginger juice for lunch but you know it’s beneficial to your career and that’s all that matters! I also feel it’s important to splurge every once in a while so I give myself a cheat day, once a week because normal food is sometimes good for you and your body needs the toxicity to survive!

Monique Giselle sitting on the groundPlease share something people don’t know about you.

Something people don’t know about me is that I love to sing and dance but I’m totally shy about it! I oftentimes sing really really badly so people don’t think I have a voice but underneath it all, I can! it’s just a fear I’m sure I’ll get over someday!!!

Would you change anything about yourself?

Hmm that’s a hard one! I don’t think I would. I feel that everyone’s beautiful in their own way. Of course I would like bigger boobs and a stronger cheek bone but that’s what makes me, me! no need to change, just work with what ya got!

Where is the weirdest place you’ve ever peed?

Haha the weirdest place I’ve ever peed was at an abandoned mansion on naval base in San Francisco where colonel Neiman lived back in the day. There are stairs down to a back entrance to the basement of the home that doesn’t actually open and there’s tons of old wood roting and spiders down there, but it is also the only place of privacy! A fellow model and I really had to go so that’s where we went!

Interview with Manda Mae

Manda Mae is a 20-year old model residing in Ontario, Canada.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Manda Mae. I am a 20-year-old internationally published model from Wasaga Beach, ON Canada. I started in the modelling scene at a very young age doing pageants and working for smaller clothing companies. The last couple years I have excelled into all different types of modelling from fashion, glamour, to alternative. Lately I have been focussing more on my alternative work as I am slowly acquiring more and more tattoos. I work as a promotional model for companies such as Iron Fist Clothing, Dirty Shirty, Novel Thread Co, Frightmare, WolfNCrane, and others. I also landed my first Billboard downtown Toronto this year being the promotional model for one of the biggest tattoo expos in the world “Northern Ink Xposure” which was held in June this year downtown Toronto. I also had a chance to do promotion for Rockstar Energy at the convention with Sullen Angels. This year has opened many doors for me and I couldn’t be more proud of myself being a freelance model.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first got involved in the modelling industry when I was four years old. My mom entered me in beauty pageants and had me modeling for all different small companies around Canada. After a few years I decided I no longer wanted to do the pageants anymore and took a break. When I turned 14 I started getting tattoos and had a huge interest in body modifications. After a few years of acquiring pieces to my body art collection I decided I would take a jab back at the modeling industry taking a bit of a different path this time. I started working with some amazing photographers around Ontario and I was noticed in no time. After receiving emails from different clothing companies from around the world to help promote their clothing I started going harder and harder with my modeling. I never would have thought I’d have the confidence I have today but standing in-front of that camera flashing my tattoos has to be the best feeling in the world.

Manda Mae with hand prints on her bellyWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My personal goals are to stay a freelance model and see how far I can make it on my own without any agents on my back. I also will be going to college in the next year for wildlife studies as I am a huge animal lover.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

My workload is spread out and always on the go. Being a freelance model I am constantly on the go from booking shoots, going to shoots, sending out emails and just managing my social media pages. Although it seems like a pain-in-the-ass I honestly love it! It’s something that gives me motivation and drive to keep doing what I love.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My experiences so far in the modeling industry have all been either amazingly or just a “whatever”. I’ve always lived by having no expectations so I can’t be let down! One of my best experiences I would have to say would be having the chance to be the Promotional model for Northern Ink Xposure this year and appearing on a billboard downtown Toronto. I feel like this was the most amazing experience so far because I got to meet so many rad people, work with new connections and just be in an environment where I felt me!

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

What model hasn’t!? I mean if you can’t goof around and set aside that pretty intense face for one minute, whats the fun in it!?
I’ve definitely had my share of weird, funny, and embarrassing moments while shooting or even over social media. Some things including falling over from awkward poses, breaking things in abandoned places trying to pose on them, awkward faces, and the list could go on forever.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

One thing I think I would change about the industry if I could is probably the way people look at each-other’s sizes. Size is something I think every model has a problem with, whether they admit it or not. It’s something that’s going to constantly be biting them in the ass whether they’re perfect or not.

Manda Mae wearing a native costumeDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Nutrition is something I’ve honestly been struggling with for a few years now but I’m on my way to correcting! I have horrible eating patterns but I am extremely energetic! I love all different kinds of sports from base-ball, volleyball, figure skating, hiking, and dance!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Facts a lot of you probably don’t know
– I have never dyed my hair, I am a natural blonde.
– I am only 20-years-old
– All my tattoos have meanings
– I have been in a committed relationship since I was 17
– I am a crazy animal lover
– I own a two year old Bernese Mountain Dog that weighs more than me

Would you change anything about yourself (physical or otherwise) if you could?

I wouldn’t change a thing about myself because then I wouldn’t be me!

What is your guilty pleasure?

My guilty pleasure for sure is a good old Mcdouble from McDonald’s, I have a serious addiction too them.

How to look buff when you’re skinny with a muscle shirt

Fake muscle shirt

Are you skinny but too lazy to go to the gym? Would you rather just fake being muscular, since you never take of your clothes in front of any girls anyway? Here’s the answer! Just strap on these fake muscles and then cover them with your favorite shirt. Who cares that you now look ridiculously out of proportion – as long as you look like you work out your chest and abs! With this new product, the muscle shirt, you can score any* girl!

*Any girl with poor eyesight, and as long as you keep a safe distance so they’re sure not to touch you.

It’s hard to believe this product is actually being sold. For the purpose of writing this article, I looked into the topic a bit further and although I couldn’t find the model in the picture for sale, I did find another brand named Funkybod which is slightly more conservative in terms of added volume and distributes a bit more evenly:

The Funkybod undershirt is designed to enhance your natural physique. Because of the way it is designed, there is a marked improvement in the look if the wearer has the typical visual manboob issues when wearing a shirt. This was not the intended market for the Funkybod muscle top. Initially, it was designed to enhance the upper body muscle groups of skinny to medium build men. After initial trials we found that some of the smaller men had manboob issues which were covered well with the Funkybod muscle top. This led us to experiment with larger men and look into the manboob issue further.

Fake muscle shirt by FunkybodI wonder what kind of person would waste $50 US on this crap. Just get a gym membership instead. You can accomplish a lot in a month if you eat and train right, and working out shouldn’t just be for appearances.

Unless you’re also planning to buy superman spandex for Halloween and it’s for comical effect – in which case a muscle suit like Michael Bluth from Arrested Development would actually serve you better – spend some money on a book about the health benefits of good nutrition and training rather than a padded shirt. Seriously.
