Interview with Red — Tattooed Model, Mother, Jäger Girl

Red is a 24-year old model residing in Smyrna, Delaware.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Born in South Carolina, grown in little old Delaware – the name is Ashley, but Red is more appropriate nowadays. Along with raising my tiny monster, Pierceson, I hold the title for a lot of things. Model, Brand Ambassador, Nursing Student, Jäger Girl, and my newest venture, Cocktail Waitress at a strip club.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

Oh goodness, girls ask me this all the time!

I got my foot in the door to the modeling industry working at car shows for an audio company when I was 20. It all happened so fast, it was kinda just like “here, put this shirt on and go take pictures with people’s cars.” That’s what started my portfolio. After that, I just ventured into bigger, better, and more tasteful projects. Haven’t looked back since.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Well I was about to say “One day I hope to have my shit together.” But thinking about it, I enjoy my crazy, unpredictable, hellish little life. Keeps me on my toes, and that’s the best way to be, right?

In the next few years, I plan on graduating nursing school and landing a Labor & Delivery RN position. Building up my portfolio bigger and better than ever, being recognized more than just around my area. Living on my own, no more roommates. And continuing to live my life happily ever after raising hell with Pierceson.

Red modeling a bridal dress in the countrysideHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I frequently do promotional modeling. Making appearances at various locations, promoting the job at hand, then leave. I love it. I often do photo shoots too. Mainly glamour, boudior, and promotional. I’d love to venture out and broaden my horizons in that sense. I could rock a catwalk.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My worst experience hands down was 3 years ago, receiving a fraudulent check that I thought was from an event I’d worked. After I deposited it I found out it was a fraud, and I am the one that got punished for it. Comes with a “Black List” label on Check Systems, and not being able to open a bank account for 5 years. I still have 2 years to go, lucky me!

My best experience would be working for Jägermeister. I have met so many interesting and amazing people working promotions for them. It really put into perspective for me that everyone is their own uniquely beautiful person. Plus, being down at the beach all summer working a fun ass job has its perks too.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Well back when I was doing car shows, one of the events consisted of a Dunking Booth that I somehow ended up being volunteered for. Horribly embarrassing. I was wearing a white top, make up running down my face, hair had me looking like a drown cat. Wouldn’t recommend that to anyone!

Red wearing a pink top and black miniskirtIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yes! Well not change it, but advice I would love to give. To girls new to the industry, or trying to make their way into it; You do not have to take your clothes off to be noticed. And once you do, that’s mainly what you’ll be wanted for. If that’s the route you want to go, make sure it’s classy and tasteful. Something you’ll be proud of!

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I do not play any sports, but if I did have time for volleyball I’d be in there like swimwear! My jobs require me to be on my feet pretty much all day, I could probably run a marathon in stilettos by now and not think twice about it. Come to think of it, I have climbed the side of a cliff in heels for a shoot before!

When it comes to food, I eat whatever I want. But whatever I want doesn’t usually consist of anything greasy, fatty, or sugary anyway. I do love a good pizza though!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m actually super self conscious of my appearance. Weird, right?

Would you change anything about yourself?

As self conscious as I may be, I don’t think I’d actually change anything about myself. Because it makes me who I am. Except there may be a boob job in my future, I would change that!

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I have the sickest shark phobia, but I love the beach! I am terrified yet fascinated. I will not even swim in a pool by myself, no matter the size. I start thinking about Sharks and it freaks me out. If I’m in water, someone has to be with me at all times. Yet, I’m glued to the TV during Shark Week, that’s my shit.

Interview with Jay Sharice — Confused happy mistake maker

Jay Sharice is a 23-year old model residing in Denver, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello readers,
I was born in Nevada but spent my elementary years on the Santee reservation so I guess you could say that’s where I grew up but I never stayed anywhere for long. My family currently resides in Nebraska. My mother is a stay at home mom and my father is retired. My hobbies include but are not limited to, longboarding, aerial dancing, creative writing, singing, acting, modeling, and learning acoustic guitar.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I was 16 and living in Yakima WA, my best friend’s father wanted to become a photographer and we became his practice models. His picture to this day still gets the most praise out of all my work. After the shoot my friend and I were infatuated with the idea and began chasing the dream.

Jay Sharice sitting on a treeWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My personal goals are in 5 years to put a down payment on my first house and be certified in ASL -American sign language- so I can work with kids. Professionally as a model I plan to work my behind off until I sell one book and continue to model until my time is up in the industry.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Not as often as I’d like. Being short limits me to print, although I have done the catwalk for charity shows. My strength is in acting so I’m more vigilant about pursuing those jobs.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience I’ve had so far is with my new photographer here in Colorado. We have similar ideas to how we want our portfolios to look and he helps promote me. It’s amazing to vibe that way with someone you’re working with on a shoot. I believe good energy shows in the photo.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Yes someone contacted me for a shoot but had no work to show. When I declined he begged me for pictures of my feet which gave me the heebie jeebies. I think liking feet is fine as long as you don’t get too close to mine.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

If I could change anything it would be the measurement standards. People are constantly arguing over curvy or thin. Personally I believe it should be both curvy and thin. Beautiful woman shouldn’t be limited to one size option, we are thick, thin, short, tall, curvy, athletic, dark, light and lovely. Instead of creating a new standard I vote we eliminate the standard.

Jay Sharice face closeupDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I don’t consider myself to be very sporty but I longboard and do aerial dance. I run occasionally but that’s only for the health benefits. I really eat whatever I like as long as it isn’t in the junk food category. I don’t have meal times I only eat when I’m hungry and until I feel comfortably full, unless there’s cheese involved.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m a very open and honest person so people know pretty much everything about me. I’m very chatty so if I had to guess people probably don’t know I spend hours a day dead silent in the middle of town just watching people and listening to their daily lives.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Small things but over all probably no. Small flaws make us unique.

Have you ever been fired from a job?

Yes, I was fired for sexual harassment. I was working at a skin care store when a young man walked in with bright blue hair. I whistled and said “That’s a great hair color. Can I help you find anything today?” He told me no so I returned to stocking. He called my company and filed an official complaint… So as you can see I can’t be trusted with compliments.

Interview with Sierra Lanae — Fitness & Fashion Model battling MS

Sierra Lanae is an 18-year old model residing in Aurora, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in Thorton, CO. My mom, Jen Brown, is a fitness model and competitor in the NPC & has been competing for over 5 years. I go to school for cosmetology but at the end of the day there is nothing I love more than going to the gym.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I got into modeling in the summer of 2014. I started because I want to make sure I do everything I’ve ever wanted to do before my Multiple Sclerosis takes over, one of those things on my list is modeling. I also had huge insecurities with the way I looked. When I was younger struggled with anorexia and bulimia. After that I struggled with eating too much and never wanting to go outside or be around people, I was so ashamed of how I looked. My insecurities got better when I started going to the gym everyday and saw how my hard work & passion was improving my life for the better. I was still really insecure when I started modeling; I thought if I put myself out there I may like what I see & I do! Modeling has changed my life completely!

Sierra Lanae wearing shorts and topWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My biggest dream was to fight MMA until I found out the stress it would put on my body with MS would make it worse. I now wish to pursue my modeling career and compete in NPC. I also wish to graduate cosmetology school and after get certified in personal training and nutrition. I also want to do modeling workshops to teach other models how to use their insecurities to their advantage.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I have at least a couple photo shoots a month. I haven’t done any catwalks and only one video commercial.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I would say my best experience in modeling is when someone messaged me on Facebook after my first time being in a magazine and told me they were a huge fan and loved my work. The worst experience would have to be a photo shoot I had where he would take one picture put the camera down and make sexual jokes followed by comments on how I should consider nude.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

In my very first photo shoot someone stole my shoes downtown that I was borrowing from a friend.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

That in order to make it in the industry, everyone thinks you have to get nude and you don’t.

Sierra Lanae hanging from a fork liftDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Fitness and nutrition in everyone’s life, not just models! Proper Nutrition is one of the most important factors in a healthy lifestyle. I personally eat a lot of protein, fruits and veggies; any carbs I have I cut off at about 4pm. I also eat 5 to 6 times a day and drink as much water as possible. Fitness side of things cardio and I are not friends but I try and at least get 20 minutes cardio session in the early morning and after a workout. Mixed Martial Arts is the only cardio I love to do and would suggest it for everyone to try. I love lifting being able to go into the gym put on your headphones and drowned the world out for an hour or two makes all the difference to make you happier & more relaxed. Not to mention when you reach a new max weight or see progress, that amazing feeling you get knowing it’s because of your hardwork! A healthy physique is something that can’t be bought and has to be worked for.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m a superman nerd -everyone knows this-. Every boyfriend I had until graduated high school somewhat looked like Superman or reminded me of Superman. I use to also read the comic books and do different voices for each character. I would also play the radio show to put me to sleep.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I take people’s criticism to heart too much.

What features do you look for in a partner?

I guess my answer to that is someone that I can be myself around. Someone I can go to the gym with because I am not giving that up for anyone! If we can’t have a real conversation it’s not going to work. They also have to be funny. I care about personality more than anything else.

Interview with Tia Marie — Book-Worm Model

Tia Marie is a 21-year old model residing in Denver, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born June 29th 1993 in Louisville, Colorado, later moving to small town Frederick, Colorado where I currently reside with plans to move to downtown Denver. I love music and attending events. Dancing is where I find peace and release all of my stress. It’s truly one of my passions. I also am a passionate reader. I’ve invested tons of time and space into books. Reading is also a huge stress reliever for me. It’s another world. And of course another passion is modeling. It builds my confidence and allows me to see myself in a different light. Modeling makes me feel beautiful and powerful.

Tia Marie face closeupWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I was first approached by an agency when I was 17 years old at the mall. It was completely unexpected because I was only running into the mall for a few things and hadn’t even bothered to get dressed. I was still in my sweats with no make-up. The agent told me, “you would look great in 6′ heels” then handed me the business card launching my interest in modeling. I later decided to be a freelance model not wanting to be controlled by an agency and have since been slowly growing my portfolio on my time.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I eventually would love to be enrolled in community college where I plan on completing my academics then later transferring to a university. I want to study psychology and neurology then work in a mental institution with people who have severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia, multiple personalities, and other conditions. Another option I’m considering is working with serial killers, either in prison or on a team of investigators. I’d love to establish myself as a model in the meantime, working part time and full time doing both of the things that I love the most.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I model when I have the time to and I try to keep it different from what I’ve done before. My goal is to always build my portfolio with interesting and different ideas and collaborations. I have some experience in catwalk, but it’s not really something I prefer to do. I guess I do a little bit of everything.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I always try to make every experience modeling a good one. It is truly something I love to do and it is a part of who I am. There’s a certain power behind it. There’s a feeling I can’t describe when you see yourself in photos. I continue to push myself and do better and better every modeling experience I have.

Tia Marie wearing a long black dressDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I don’t typically practice any sports, but I do workout and try to eat healthy. I rarely eat fast food and I cook at home. I have a fast metabolism so it’s hard for me to gain weight, but I like to keep my body toned so I do squats, sit-ups, push-ups and other basic exercise to keep in shape.

Would you change anything about yourself?

There’s only one thing really I would want to change about myself and that would be my acne. I’ve struggled with it for years and it’s something I’ve learned to accept and deal with, but if I could I would definitely choose not to have it.

If you were the opposite sex for one day, what would you do?

If I was the opposite sex for one day I would pee out of a car window. I’ve always been envious of men and the luxury they have of peeing anywhere. Especially in cars. Women have to find bathrooms or even places to squat, but not men… Haha!

Interview with Logan Westbrook — Petite Model:Think Tall, Dream Big

Logan Westbrook is a 19-year old model residing in Denver, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am the exact mix of my Puerto Rican father and Southern blonde hair blue eyed mother, born and raised in Denver, Colorado. As an only child I have been incredibly blessed with support from parents who have sacrificed almost everything time and time again to let me dream big and strive towards my goals. Learning to live with the alcoholism, depression, and bankrupcy that has plagued my parent’s marriage and at times our whole family, I put my passions and stresses into sports, music, horses, and eventually modeling as I grew up. I have grown up riding and training my own horse who is my forever companion through good times and bad, and singing all kinds of music. This has lead me to be able to sing for various charities, sports games, and events across the state and in other states as well.

When I was 7 I traded in my tae-kwon-do belts for a pair of figure skates and have been skating competitively ever since. To my parent’s dismay I discovered yet another expensive hobby when I was 12 – pageantry. Pageantry lead me from state title to state title and national competitions across the country that provided scholarships and opportunities I never could have dreamed of. As of late, I have taken up college as a pretty much poor first generation student with dreams of going into the medical field. None of this has been without my having always had a part or full time job since I was 14 years old, and I have been grateful for every second of every blessing and opportunity that has come my way.

Logan Westbrook modeling a sports outfitWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

Once “America’s Next Top Model” came out when I was still in elementary school I was hooked. I have always had a naturally slender build with lots of leg but was fully aware that 5’8″ is the typical minimum height requirement for runway models. It wasn’t until the petite season of ANTM came out on television that I realized there was hope for an aspiring 5’6″ girl like me. Starting from the ground up in 2007, I worked with various freelance photographers and a small local talent agency to build my print portfolio and add to my skills and experience. I took any job that I could, bending over backwards for projects and photographers to earn my way up the ladder of diversity and experience. Slowly but surely, after years of working without pay and dedicating lots of time to the modeling world my confidence and skill grew to the point where I was ready to pursue modeling more intensely than ever before.

My sophomore year of high school I was suddenly on the rise of what would begin my more professional modeling career. After having been asked to be a senior model and spokesmodel for a local photography company, and winning my first state title at a pageant in the same year, I was picked up by Barbizon Southwest. For years I had been selected for massive scouting opportunities overseas that my family and I simply could not afford, and never seemed to be able to find work in Colorado. Here, finally, was the training and the exposure that I needed to kick start my professional career, and kick start it did. Since then I have been so grateful and blessed to be the cover for local ad campaigns, featured in editorial and catalog magazines across the state and a few nationally published magazines, walk various runways for hair and fashion shows at the local and state-wide level, judge modeling and pageant competitions, work on award winning photography projects, and am continually requested to audition for large company commercials like Hyundai.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goals for modeling from this point forward in my life are to begin moving to more diverse work across the country, perhaps even out of the country if the opportunities should arise. I have lots of print and runway experience now at the state level and have tasted work in other parts of the country. I can’t get enough, and want to experience other runways, meet more designers, and one day be featured in an international magazine. Given this is all hopes and dreams of a petite model living in a tall world, all the while struggling through college. I figure if I made it this far I certainly can make it farther, it will just depend on the connections I continue to make and the opportunities that arise.

Logan Westbrook modeling a long black red dressHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

For the past few years working for Barbizon Southwest I have worked for a paid job in modeling at least once a month every month. During busier seasons I have worked and continue to receive work several times a month and often several times in a week. Most of this work is couture print work for regional magazines followed by local runway shows. I also do a lot of commerical, catalog type work from voice-overs to clothing brand advertisement.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience I have had so far with modeling has been working on a project called “The Diver” by photographer Paul Miller. This incredible shoot was almost a 12 hour shoot that feautured massive elaborate sets and wardrobe changes. This year it was awarded for it’s amazing finished photos and artistry by the Art Directors Club of Denver at their annual show. The greatest part of this project was that, once it was published I began receiving calls for work like never before.

When it comes to my worst experiences modeling, it is difficult to really say because what many people would consider the worst are still things that I am grateful for in the big picture. I have sat for hours on a freezing cold location set while they do hair and makeup, or been practically naked on the runway while my poor father looked on in horror but understanding that being model means you don’t always get to choose your wardrobe. I’ve been jostled around back stage or been told time and time again that I’m not tall enough or I don’t have perfect model features. The reality is that sometimes the behind the scenes stuff isn’t all that glamorous, and yes they are correct, but I have learned that fashion and modeling isn’t at all about perfection or what’s “the right size”, and those standards have not kept me from enjoying pursuing this dream.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I was asked to model a dress with an incredible high slit that showed a little too much if the dress flew behind my legs on the runway…Of course, it did… as the designer sort of expected, but much to the joy of my onlooking boyfriend and his pals who continue to taunt me about it to this day. I didn’t think twice about it while I was on the runway, but giggled hysterically when I saw my mom’s face in the audience as I was walking off. My poor sweet parents have never said anything about my modeling work but good things, even when it rubs their parental side the wrong way.

Logan Westbrook inside a barn wearing jeansIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I would absolutely change the height standards for runway models, not just because I myself am petite but also because I know so many other incredibly talented models who would do anything for this industry but cannot change their height. It is a sad loss of talent in my opinion.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I enjoy running because that was my sport in high school -track-, but most recently I have fallen in love with this workout called “Body Barre” which is basically a workout spin on ballet moves. It is very challenging but makes for really well toned muscles, good posture, and flexibilty. The coolest part is that we do the workouts in out sock and it’s all about isolation so there is no running around like a cardio workout, while still making you work incredibly hard. I tend to stick to gluten free foods because that seems to be a trigger for face breakouts for me. I also love a well made protein shake and keep up on daily vitamins and at least one serving of vegetables a day plus tons of water.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

People typically don’t know that, although my work and my hobbies usually put me in a dress and heels and wearing lots of makeup, I am very much so a tomboy. My favorite outfits behind the scenes are anything that isn’t a skirt: I adore pants, baseball caps and boots.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Honestly if I could be 5’8″ of course I would love to have more modeling opportunities. Otherwise I am happy and grateful to be myself and have the life that I have been given, even if I never make it to the pages of an international magazine.

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I have a strange phobia of dark water and big fish. I have never experienced trauma in these areas so my family has no idea where this comes from. I won’t even jump into a dark pool.

Interview with Sophia Harris — Childhood outcast to model

Sophia Harris is a 16-year old model residing in Denver, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in South Brisbane,Australia-the home of my father but moved back to Dubai in the UAE within weeks of being born. My father is Australian and my mother is a South African and Canadian who moved to America when she was 12 year ols. My four siblings and I however grew up in Dubai and the rest of my family live there still, at 16 I decided to make the move to America by myself to finish high school here. My profession is simply a high school student which is pretty much a full time job in itself but over the last six years of my life I have acted professionally in short films and professional plays as well as modeling in my spare time.

As you can probably tell I am incredibly interested in acting. I have six years of professional training in the Stanislavski method and hope to pursue acting full time once I graduate high school. My other hobbies include running and writing, as a former track and field athlete I developed an addiction to it and go crazy if I can’t run at least five times a week. In addition to acting I hope to become a screenwriter so I dedicate several hours a week to developing and writing my screenplays; I have thirteen so far!.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first began modeling four years ago at the age of 12, at the time I was living in Dubai, a city fast becoming one of the fashion capitals of the world. I don’t have a particularly interesting scouting story – I was asked one day at a makeup convention by the director of a modeling agency if I had any interest in modeling. After shooting my portfolio and signing with them my career begun! I don’t really know why I begun modeling but trust me -no one was more shocked than I when I did!

As a child my appearance was made fun of constantly – I had curly red hair, extremely pale skin, freckles and hooded almond shaped blue eyes. I stood out among a sea of brunettes and blondes with their tanned skin and round eyes. It made me an easy target and resulted in needless bullying. So the idea of my appearance ever earning me money seems like a ridiculous idea to me initially; however, as I soon discovered it was all the things I had been made fun of for that made me so successful.

Sophia Harris showing her long hair and a hatWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In five years I want to be living in LA, finding at least some success as an actress in film and television hopefully negotiating the sale of one of my screenplays! As a person, I hope to become less shy and introverted -I am a tried and true INTJ personality type!. I would also like to be able to say that I had maintained my morals and continued to conduct myself in a dignified manner.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Previously I modeled more, every other week probably. It may not seem like much but I did it at the same time as I was attending school full time. I mainly do commercial photoshoots but I have previously done editorials. Unfortunately I am far too short for the catwalk!

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience I have ever had in modeling was several years ago. The photoshoot was for the Hasselblad Camera and was titled ‘We’re sisters not colors’. Two other models, one black and one Asian, and I all dressed up with elaborate hairstyles and makeup had colored powder thrown at us and we were encouraged to play in ti whilst pictures were taken. The photos that came out were so beautiful and real whilst still promoting the idea of equality and unity among people.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Thankfully I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything truly bizarre or embarrassing throughout my career. However working in Dubai was defiantly a unique experience in itself as the way business is conducted is completely different!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I would most certainly change the height and size requirements. The proportions they ask for promote an incredibly unhealthy lifestyle and really encourage many girls to starve themselves.

Sophia Harris hiding her face behind a fanDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I run frequently as well as doing strength and toning exercises daily. I usually eat a piece of gluten free bread with nutella on it -love that stuff!- for breakfast, a small meal consisting of protein and vegetables for lunch and a larger meal consisting of protein, carbohydrates and vegetables for dinner. Throughout the day I get incredibly hungry so I snack on fruit and granola bars as well as chocolate coconut milk. On the whole, I try to avoid gluten and dairy as I don’t react well to either of them. Throughout the week I eat consistently and healthily but I allow myself one treat on the weekend -it’s all about moderation! Nutrition and exercise are incredibly important to me because in order to be successful in this industry I have to maintain my weight and body constantly. However, I am also a firm believer in staying healthy and not starving yourself -you will not model forever but you will have to live with your body forever. So why destroy it in exchange for a few years of success?

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Most people don’t know that I attended a British Curriculum school for most of my education resulting in my slightly warped accent and vocabulary!

Would you change anything about yourself?

If I could change one thing about myself it would be my hair-I would kill for thinner, straight hair! Curly hair is such a pain and mine is far too long and thick to be able to do anything with!

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I have a legitimate phobia, and I took psychology for two years so I know the difference between a fear and a phobia, of crustaceans. As in crabs and lobsters. Just seeing them results in a full blown, completely legitimate panic attack and I just can’t even. I’m also terrified of moths and butterflies, something I only discovered after being taken on a trip to a butterfly pavilion. Cue screaming and crying.

Interview with JustJenny

JustJenny is a 25-year old model residing in Denver, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born and raised in Colorado in a suburban town south of Denver. I’m the youngest of three at 25, and I have a medley of hobbies. From video gaming to cooking, writing fiction to modeling, I always have something to invest my time into! I’m passionate about volunteering and have done so both locally and internationally. I’ve waited tables at Waffle House, turned a wrench at a quick lube, and have been working as a sales operations analyst doing forensic data investigation for the past five years.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

Growing up in the 90’s, it was hard to ignore Tyra Banks’ show America’s Next Top Model. I was fascinated with all the contestants from each cycle, and my mom said I would make a great model. Introverted as I was back in high school, it took a letter from John Casablancas’ Model and Talent Management program to get me excited and fully committed to learning all I could about the trade. My parents enrolled me in Casablancas’ modeling and acting program in 2007, and by 2008 I graduated with such confidence and self-respect for myself that I pursued modeling without the help of an agency. I know with certainty that I would be a completely different person today if I hadn’t enrolled in that program, and I’m grateful every day for deciding to join it.

JustJenny on a field with an antelopeWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I am currently involved with writing a science fiction trilogy, and aspire to be at least a part-time author once I publish the series. Writing, like modeling, allows me to creatively express myself with no boundaries. Without those two hobbies in my life it would be a lot more dull! I’m very family-oriented, and I want to settle down and start a family soon, which is within reach. Each of these goals wake me up in the morning and make me strive to do the best that I can to achieve them!

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Majority of my modeling is through photo shoots and runway or fashion shows. I am open-minded to any genre you can think of, yet I respect myself and my body enough to have nothing to do with erotic, implied or full nude, and anything that I will tell you right away would make me feel uncomfortable. Modeling is something I have fun with and want my friends and family to be proud of, so I firmly stand beside the decisions I make.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I’ve had my share fair of good and bad experiences, but one of my best ones was actually the first photo shoot I was involved with after graduating from John Casablancas. I did some networking online and found a group of photographers who set something up around some of Denver’s unique graffiti sites open to all models. I was so excited, and my confidence shined through in all my photos. Each of the photographers I cycled through were pleasantly surprised when they asked me how long I had been modeling, and I answered with only a few months. Hearing their compliments on how fluid my transitions were on posing, and how keen a sense of the lighting and angles I had really helped me realize that I had found something that can truly make me feel accepting of myself. In all honesty, it freed me of any negative views I had about myself on top of being a creative outlet, and I’ve never looked back since.

JustJenny modeling a fur coatHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I went to New Mexico for a photo shoot once and shot out in the desert. It was my first time working with that photographer, but his portfolio held the type of pictures I wanted in mine, so I went out on a limb to work with him out of state. I was nervous and anxious, but after we shot my first outfit I was overwhelmed with how candid and magical the shots turned out. There was this one where I had to jump as high as I could and open my eyes into the blinding sun, and I felt like it was something we’d have to go at over and over to capture the right moment. After the first take the photographer said that we got it, and when he showed me the shot I couldn’t agree more! The movements we both envisioned actually happened on the first take, and it just felt like a connecting moment between the two of us.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

When I first started out, it seemed like a majority of people assumed that I would be okay with shooting promiscuous or nude photos, just because I’m a woman with a decent figure at 5’7″. It gets under my skin when someone in the modeling industry doesn’t look past your features and makes assumptions off of your look alone before getting to know the genres you enjoy shooting, your own inner creative ideas, or how your work ethic measures up. If I could change anything it would be those preconceived misconceptions about models just in it to look pretty.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Throughout high school I played volleyball and kick boxed, and I even joined a fencing club. I have exercise-induced asthma so anything that involves running I avoid like the plague! Nowadays I enjoy hiking around Red Rocks and Green Mountain, and I play volleyball just for fun. My boyfriend is a jiu-jitsu fighter so he’s gotten me into that quite a bit. I don’t currently practice under a gym, but it’s a gentle art that I really appreciate and enjoy.

JustJenny face closeupPlease share something people don’t know about you.

I’ve held a career-worthy job for five years, and it still comes to a shock to people when I tell them I haven’t gone to college. It was on my to-do list out of high school, but it just wasn’t in the hand I was dealt. An honest mistake for them, assuming I have a higher education because I have a stable job. I love anything to do with food, cooking and eating and socializing, and I wholly believe I was born with two stomachs by how much I can put down. All-you-can-eat-sushi? Bring it on! Endless buffet? To the front of the line! I’m also a bookworm and read whenever I’m not busy writing. I’m a hardcore RPG gamer too, and yes, my level 84 Orc on Skyrim will throw you into next Tuesday with her ebony battleaxe!

Would you change anything about yourself?

Ever since puberty I’ve struggled with cystic acne, and still haven’t gotten to a content place with the health of my skin. It’s gotten better over time, but I still have some pretty bad scarring. My goal is to look healthy without the aide of makeup. The path I’ve laid out for myself to reach that goal is coming along nicely, but as always will be a work in progress.

Are you currently in a relationship? How would you describe your partner?

Yes! I am happily taken, going on two solid years this upcoming February! He’s the coolest, silliest guy I know, and I’m blessed to have randomly met him at a Jamba Juice when he tried to take the smoothie I ordered. Each day he inspires me to push my limits, to always have as much fun as humanly possible, and to be thankful for all that we have in life. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have even started writing my book. We’re a nice mixture of partners in crime, romantic lovers, and the most awesome fans in each other’s lives!

Interview with Natasha Monsauret — Student Writer and Model

Natasha Monsauret is a 19-year old model residing in Santa Barbara, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am Natasha, I am from Monterey- living in Santa Barbara for school, majoring in Art History at SBCC. I come from a family with a deceased father and a widowed mother with 4 brothers and sisters, including myself. My mother’s side is filled with artist who love to paint. That’s something that I’ve picked up over the years and really enjoyed as a hobby. My art ideas started to shift from painting, to photography, and now to modeling. I went from creating the picture to being the picture which evolved beautifully. I’ve found that modeling and art is one of my admired hobbies because I love to feel, move, which is a part of being the main picture. I can make one picture mean a million words, if not more. I can craft pieces that will shatter your inner thoughts, I am an artist and I AM the art! I am optimistic and I am passionate for reaching my highest achievements in life…

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

In sophomore and junior year of high school I had two friends who developed their very own clothing line. One of them was BAMF co. And another was TheFashionJunkie co. on etsy. Both of my friends admired my look, so they had me model their clothes and put me on front page of their website. I honestly had a blast working for them, even if it was free! It was something that was fun and something I didn’t quite take seriously.

During senior year of high school, I had a friend doing professional modeling -unlike my friends, because they weren’t professional photographers, but close enough-. At this point I was very interested in modeling, so I asked her if I could tag along in one of her photo shoots in Carmel, Ca. Once I met the photographer’s camera I couldn’t get enough… And that’s how it started haha.

Natasha Monsauret next to a dockWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goals are to keep on striving, and to keep working hard for school and work!! I don’t have a plan right now, at such a young age, but I do have many ideas of where I see myself. One of my biggest and brightest dreams is traveling the world. I’ve never left California and that’s something that definitely needs to change. I’ve been saving up, and I’m ready to make big moves in life!

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I model pretty often, or whenever I can get the chance. I have a pretty large work and school load so it’s been pretty hectic, but I’d say that I’d try to fit in at least two photo shoots a month. I haven’t began video, acting or catwalks so it’s been pretty basic shoots…

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

All of my experiences have been pretty chill, actually. There was probably one that went wrong and that was because the photographer wasn’t quite the professional, nor did he seem like it. He basically didn’t know what to do with the camera and was very shy and didn’t want to have a say in anything. So the photo shoot ended with me guiding him almost the whole way. I guess those kind of things happen with trade photo shoots.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

One time I was going to do a shoot with a photographer and he explained how it was going to be a Mardi Gras shoot which I was totally into. I love the masks and beads! Well, once we met up he showed me photos of examples he wanted to do and it was a fetish photo shoot! Barely anything to do with Mardi Gras!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yes! Definitely! But I found that the best ways to change something is not involving yourself with it. If I’m not happy with someone’s ideas, or ways- then I’ll just simply not be a part of it.

Natasha Monsauret next to a rockDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I live in a small college town so I walk everywhere! I don’t do many constant sports but I do love to snowboard and skateboard. Still looking for a cute surfer to teach me how to surf. I try to eat very healthy, I can’t afford to eat out so I go grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s and cook for myself everyday.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

One thing most people don’t know about me is that I am a hardcore writer and that I am in the making of my first book. It’s very exciting!

Would you change anything about yourself?

Of course there are things everyone doesn’t like about themselves. I have many things I would like to change about myself, but that’s just who I am and without it I wouldn’t have the amazing people in my life that I have now.

What is the longest you have gone without taking a bath?

The longest I’ve gone without a shower or bath would be a week. I was river rafting and camping on my 8th grade camping trip and it was against the regulations to take a bath. I went to a Waldorf and hippy school, which meant we did things in whole as one, so we had to wait to take one at the end of the trip in the river… Which I wouldn’t even consider a shower either.

Interview with Maria Do

Maria Do is a 19-year old model residing in San Diego, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am a 19 year old, simple gal living in California. I am a happy newly wedded wife, so that explains my Vietnamese last name. I am a mix breed and you would definitely question what I am when you see and hear me talk. I’m Filipino and Caucasian with a British accent. So by my look and accent, I will definitely throw you off. I was actually born in San Francisco and raised in San Diego. The British accent just came from a relative that visited Great Britain and came back to help take care of me.

I grew up with a military family and the stereotypical Filipino household. Unlike most Filipino households though, my family was more laid back and opened… Well at least after I was a junior in high school. So growing up was difficult. I was put into the hospital when I got really sick and that was something that changed mine and my family’s life. It helped me decided that I don’t want to be a doctor lol… But I want to have a career that helps children and teens, so maybe be a counselor for those with a mental illness or a school counselor. My trip to the hospital helped my family get closer and helped my father change some of his life choices. So he is now sober and cigarette free for 2 years.

I’m very opened so I love trying new things and exploring and experiencing different things. I just absolutely love anything that deals with art. So drawing, painting, dancing, and even modeling is just a passion to me. I do absolutely any kind of dance. My favorite would be any Hawaiian style or ballroom.

Maria Do wearing a black thongTo me, my family and school are the most important things in my life. I think no matter what though, I would want modeling to be part of my life always.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I think I got into modeling about a year or two ago. It all started when I was young and people always told me to go back to the Philippines and become a artist. So growing up I always went towards acting. It was only when I became a senior in high school, I was introduced to modeling. Some of my friends back then would always use me to model for one of their projects for them and that was when I realize that I really enjoyed being in front of people and even cameras. So I went to a company called John Casablancas and from there I took classes and started my career.

I stuck to it because it was just something that came natural to me. It made me who I am today and not once I regret it. I t helped me in many ways that you can imagine.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In general, I just want to help children and teens. My main goal is to work in a school as a counselor for elementary or high school students. Also as well as to have my own family one of these days. There’s honestly nothing more I would want than to help others.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I try to do photo shoots at least a few times a month. I would love to do catwalks but I am just still too short. Usually my photo shoots consist of a wide range of styles. I love to work with different photographers because each one has a different style for shooting and I’m interested in seeing a variety of different works.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I’m still waiting for not a best experience but one memorable experience that deals with me and water!! My worst experience was just when I was contacted by a photographer that just had more than shooting in mind. Now that is just another story.

Maria Do posing next to a windowHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Hm honestly not quite yet but I am waiting for one to happen and I can tell you right now I’m actually excited for all the laughs it will bring.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Is there something I would change about the industry? Hell yes I would!! Probably absolutely everything? I think it’s horrific what some people advertise nowadays. I think we shouldn’t be advertising the fact that you have to look a certain way to be ” beautiful “.

Beauty should not be defined and if it has to be then it should be a picture of the world. To me we are all beautiful and should not be picked out. Some people say skinny is beautiful and some also say big and curvy is beautiful. Should we really be told what we have to look like? I don’t think so. So one of the reasons why I chose to model was to show to other people, that we are all beautiful and we should not let people tell us otherwise.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I can be lazy and then there are times where I am the most hyper person in the room. I have a fast metabolism already so I try not to go crazy with working out but I do try to exercise as much as I can to stay in shape. I think eating right n exercising daily is important but also being lazy here and there is as well. You got to have a perfect balance of it all to live a good life I would say.

Typically I eat just about everything. If you ask my family, I literally eat more than some of them. I just love food!! I’ll admit I do eat quite a bit of take out, but I wish I don’t sometimes. So I try to eat something a little healthier when I do eat out. No doubt though, nothing beats fruits… Especially a fresh fruit smoothie!!

Maria Do hawaiian costume vintage photoPlease share something people don’t know about you.

I’m pretty open so I don’t know honestly what some people don’t know about me, but everyone has secrets. I guess I can say some people don’t know that I can be a total geek when it comes to video games and anything that deals with super Heroes and villains.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I don’t think I really would change anything about me. I feel I am perfect just the way I am. To me everyone is perfect and beautiful just the way they are. So why go changing? Besides at least for the better.

What superpower do you wish you had? Why?

If I could possess a super power… I would have to say I would want to be able to teleport and shape shift!!
I just think it would be so much fun and handy to have those powers.

Interview with Molly ‘Mawlz’ Hanley — Recording/Performing Artist and Model

Molly ‘Mawlz’ Hanley is a 23-year old model residing in Los Angeles, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Molly ‘Mawlz’ Hanley, I was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA and just recently relocated to LA 6 months ago at the age of 22. I have one younger brother, and all of my family still lives in PA. I love to sing, rap, and write songs. I model occasionally and am also a part time Makeup Artist. I am a highly creative individual and anything that involves art intrigues me.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I started out as a freelance makeup artist in Pittsburgh when I was still in high school to make extra money. I found myself becoming involved in many projects and highly sought after for makeup artistry and creative direction work, After shoots, many photographers would ask me if I ever considered modeling, and so eventually I would shoot images for my own portfolio with them. Soon after establishing a decent portfolio, I booked some paid modeling gigs and shows, and have been doing so ever since.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goal is to become a successful performing and recording artist. In 5 years I hope to have an album or albums out, music videos, be touring, and to have gained some awards or industry recognition. I could also see myself modeling within the realm of my music persona. I would love to be the face of a cosmetic line or clothing brand. I plan to become a brand of my own as well. I envision myself eventually writing for other artists and being involved in artist development as well.

Molly 'Mawlz' Hanley wearing sunglassesHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Currently my main focus is my music. I am modeling here and there, mostly where there is paid work being offered. Typically I am doing photo shoots and acting, more so than walking in shows. I am 5’6″, so I am a little too short for the catwalk in most shows. Most recently, I got “set up” on a prank reality TV game show. That was fun, and I got paid!

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

Most of my experiences have been good, but there’s been a few unprofessional and creepy photographers here and there. My best experiences were, doing makeup, modeling and acting as a “ghoul” for Ghostface Killah’s, from Wu-Tang Clan “12 Reasons to Die” show when it was in Pittsburgh, and also modeling extremely expensive diamond jewelry for a popular Pittsburgh jeweler at an event for Pittsburgh Fashion Week.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I’ve been freezing cold, changing wardrobe in the middle of a Barnes and Nobles parking lot with random passersby taking pictures of me before, if that counts. I have no shame. I don’t get embarrassed easily.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

There is too much image altering and body shaming. Enough with the over photoshopped images.

Molly 'Mawlz' Hanley topless with american flagDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I stay in shape by being extremely conscious of what I eat, I don’t necessarily diet. I avoid soda, excess sugar and carbs, and try to eat more gluten-free products than gluten products – although I have no known allergy to gluten. I eat a lot of fish, lean meat, fruits and vegetables. For exercise, I like to run around my neighborhood and go out dancing. I will also do squats, crunches, yoga and others here and there throughout the week. I was blessed with a very fast metabolism and lean athletic figure, but that also may be due to young age. I walk to and from work most days, which is about 3 miles. I always feel better when I choose to eat right and stay on a workout routine – mentally, physically and emotionally. I need to drink more water though! I struggle with that.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I moved out of my mom’s house at 18 years old and have lived in 4 apartments in 2 different states since then.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I have my insecurities, and sometimes I think I may do something to change them, nose and boob job, but then again, they are things that make me unique, so I haven’t made a serious decision to do anything about my ‘problem areas’ yet. I am quite secure in who I am, I don’t believe that wanting cosmetic procedures makes you a “bad role model” or a deeply insecure person, as the stigma would suggest. It’s just like when people decide to cut and dye their hair or get a tattoo. It’s a reflection of your human form aesthetic desires, not your soul. I don’t like it when people give others a hard time about personal choices that have nothing to do with them. If it makes you happy or feel good – go for it. Life’s short.

What is the coolest thing you’ve done in your professional career thus far?

I had the opportunity to be an opening act for Snoop Dogg, Twista and Trina, all of whom are rap and music legends! I was invited to Twista’s tour bus to hang out briefly after the show and they asked me to rap for him and his crew! They were impressed, and it was an awesome and unforgettable experience.
