Interview with Steph Modified — Tattoo artist, Alternative Model

Steph Modified is a 24-year old model residing in Orlando, Florida.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Steph Modified. I was born and raised in New York City. Now living in Orlando, Florida.

Art has always been in my family; I had a strong artistic upbringing with my grandmother’s paintings and my mom’s drawings and as a shy child I used art as a way to express myself, Tattoos were a fascination from an early age and though I never wanted any at the time, I admired the art form. The idea that I can give someone a beautiful piece of art work they will love and cherish for the rest of their life fueled my passion to learn how to tattoo. I started observing and learning some tattoo skills, while getting some of my own along the way. I found an amazing teacher, who helped me develop my tattoo skills. As my skills grew so did my confidence; I came into my own style as a tattoo artist specializing in Traditional, Neo Traditional, New school, Color.

Steph Modified naked with a boaWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

My mother constantly mentioned how beautiful I was and persuaded me to get into modeling, and I wasn’t drawn to the idea. I couldn’t see myself as a model but after my first test shoot it quickly became a new passion. I started modeling here and there, getting shoots when I could while I was working at two tattoo shops. I’ve modeled for many Fashion shows, Photoshoots, magazines, even a few music videos and as an extra on various t.v series. I try to book any modeling gigs on my days off from tattooing so I am constantly working. My passion and professionalism in both my modeling and tattooing along with my artistic and creative nature has gained me recognition, growing portfolios and so many great experiences.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I have accomplished many of my goals on my journey. I just want to live a healthy and happy life. Eventually getting the chance to travel as well as opening up my personal studio.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I recently took a long break from modeling since I have been focusing more on my art work and tattoo work. I am now starting to book photo shoots, events and others again. I’m very excited to get back into the flow of things and getting all dolled up.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing photographers and designers! One of my best experiences was walking for Dawnamatrix Designs at the New York City Rubber Ball. Having the opportunity to wear some amazing latex outfits as well as working alongside some beautiful and world renowned models was very exciting and rewarding experience.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I’ve had some funny moments during my modeling career. For one let’s just say heels and a bumpy runway do not mix.

Steph Modified modeling black lingerieIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yes, discrimination. I have lost many gigs due to my appearance, not just my tattoos or piercings but due to my skin complexion. It’s shocking to see this is still an issue this day and age. I understand each designer or photographer has their own vision to execute their idea but to hear “you would have been perfect if you were white”. That huts extremely and no one should be treated that way.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I was really into sports at a young age but with my job I don’t have much time for it now. I try to keep a healthy diet but I really love pizza. It is hard for me to keep a consistent schedule when it comes to working out. I try to make it to the gym every chance I get. I am now going to try and focus more on doing some work outs at home. Maybe even setting up a small personal gym at home

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m a big reptile enthusiast. I own many snakes and lizards. When I tell people I own snakes they think maybe one or two. I actually own over 13 snakes from ball pythons to various boas.

I am also into body suspensions. Back when I was living in New York I had the pleasure of getting suspended. It was honestly something I wanted to try once. It was one more thing to cross off my bucket list. After I got suspended from my back I got addicted and continue to suspend till this day. One of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. It’s hard to put into words how I felt while I was hanging from my flesh few feet off the ground but it will be something I will never forget.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Honestly I would want a flat tummy. It has always been a difficult area for me to work out. I am fairly slim but that area is what I’m trying to focus on now with my diet and exercise.

Are you currently in a relationship? How would you describe your partner?

Yes I am. I have the pleasure of sharing my life with an amazing man. Who is always there for me no matter what, extremely supportive and is an artist himself. He has been tattooing for over 11 years now and I have learned so much from him when it come to art and love. We’ve been together and working together for over 4 years. I am very blessed to have met him when I did.

Interview with Allie Sparks — Superstar in the Making

Allie Sparks is a 22-year old model residing in Tampa, Florida.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in Las Vegas where I began training for a life on stage. At age 2, I began doing competitive gymnastics, ballet, tap, hip hop, and jazz, and then at age 12 I moved to Florida. I continued with my dancing, and I also joined an allstar cheerleading team. In high school I joined the drama club which introduced me to a new love for acting. I began taking acting classes and since then I have done movies, commercials, music videos, and more. After high school, I discovered a new kind of entertainment which brought out my biggest passion. I started gogo dancing for different clubs, and now I perform for the biggest festivals in the world such as EDC Vegas and Ultra Miami. I recently took entertaining to the next level, and now I am training in fire eating, contortion, and aerial silk. My biggest interest is to inspire and entertain others. I like to make life interesting for people and show them life shouldn’t be so serious. The world is our playground… let’s have fun!

Allie Sparks modeling a black dress and a crucifixWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

When America’s Next Top Model first aired, I knew that modeling was my dream. Watching the show was like watching online lectures. It was my guide to becoming the best model I can be. I remember when I was 12, my mom took my first modeling photos. Being a minor and in school, it made it difficult to pursue modeling, but once I graduated I began chasing that dream. I met different photographers who helped me build my portfolio, and once that portfolio was built I began searching for paid modeling jobs. Modeling is something I’m a natural at which has made it easy to become successful with. I have been published in magazines and websites, walked the runway, and I am now represented by several different agencies. I enjoy modeling because I am an art fanatic, and modeling to me is a special kind of art. I like that I get to be creative and portray a different personality through photos.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I have so many goals it’s crazy. My personal goals include me traveling the world and becoming a reiki master so I can heal others. As for my professional goals, I want to become the world’s next superstar. I am currently taking vocal classes and working with my boyfriend who is a producer. I want to release albums, go on tour, have the coolest music videos, and bring a stage presence that no one has seen before. I also want to be seen in theaters, be featured in the most popular magazines, and have my very own show in Vegas. Once my life slows down, I’d like to run my own entertainment company and be a modeling coach.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I am constantly modeling; I do 3 to 4 photoshoots or more every month. I shoot a lot of fashion, glamour, and commercial. I used to do a lot of implieds, but not so much anymore because I want to maintain an image that younger girls can look up to. I have also been doing a lot more runway shows which I never thought would be possible since my height does not meet industry standards. I have done 3 runway shows in the past month, and one of them was for the biggest company I have ever worked for, Adidas.

Allie Sparks nude covered in chocolatePlease tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My best experiences with modeling so far was walking the runway for a local show called Cocktails x Couture. It was exactly what you’d see in America’s Next Top Model. The runway was the biggest one I’ve ever walked on and it had so many bright lights. It was a packed venue with important people everywhere, there was entertainment, and a DJ playing the grooviest deep house music which made me feel like I was in New York. The event inspired me to work even harder with modeling so I could model for events like that more often. I have not yet had any bad experiences with modeling, but I have had an uncomfortable experience. I was a live statue model for an artist at Art Basel in Miami, and we had to be completely nude and covered in clay. I didn’t mind the nude part as I had a mask on, but being covered in clay for 8 hours was not pleasant!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I’d like to change the height requirement for modeling. With photo shoots, there are different poses and angles to make you look tall. With runway, there are heels to make you look tall. There at least needs to be more agencies that have a petite division.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I am a big health fanatic, and it’s not just because I’m a model! Living a healthy lifestyle is very important to me because I enjoy having a lot of energy and looking great, I want to live a long life, and I want to be free from illnesses and diseases. I became a vegan 2 years ago meaning that I don’t eat meat or anything produced from animals. The more I learn about what’s in our food, the more I try to stay away from restaurants and processed foods. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, tofu, nuts, and grains. Once I turn 30, I plan on going on a strict raw diet where I will eat nothing but uncooked fruits and vegetables. My exercise mostly comes from my circus training, and I also do mini work outs and cardio at home, along with daily yoga.

Allie Sparks face closeupWould you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change any of my physical features because I’d rather love everything about myself rather than feel any hate toward myself. I would like to change how insecure I can sometimes get. I am always worried about certain things I say or how I look, but everyday I work on changing this about myself. I shouldn’t care about what people think, but it is such a cruel world that sometimes it’s hard not to. That is something I am working on changing with this society. I am constantly spreading positivity to others and bringing them joy. Humans are not born cruel, they are trained to be cruel. I want to teach people to break away from what social media brainwashes us with and to have a free mind.

Where is the weirdest place you’ve ever peed?

When I get drunk, I could care less where I pee. If there’s not a bathroom in sight, I’m peeing where I want. The strangest place I have ever peed was in an elevator. It was the elevator for the parking garage, and it had windows. The parking garage is on a street of clubs, so everyone was able to see me peeing in the elevator.

Interview with Brittany Alexander — The Brunette CountryGirl Barbie “Model”

Brittany Alexander is a 20-year old model residing in Ocala, Florida.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey there everyone! My name’s Brittany but everyone calls me Britt for short. I’m a country girl at heart born and raised in the sunshine state of Florida! I live in a town called Ocala but I was born in Orlando. I am the youngest of two which makes me 20 years old. I have an older sister who is 23 and an older brother who is 27. I love anything outdoors including camping, kayaking, hiking, and my all time favorite the beach! It seems to be my home away from home. I also enjoy spending time with my family or just staying inside watching one of my favorite horror films. I’m a very friendly, outgoing, sweet girl that loves to meet new people!

Brittany Alexander wearing boots and jeans at the countrysideWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always enjoyed getting in front of the camera. Between dressing up and striking poses I just seemed to love it all! When I started middle school a lot of my friends and family would always tell me I should try to get in the modeling industry. Once I reached high school I figured I’d give it a shot. At 16 years old I attended a modeling and acting school in Orlando, FL. It taught me so much from posing, to runway walk, to so much more. I started making accounts on different modeling sites to gain exposure. I then got with a modeling scout in Orlando which gained me even more exposure. From then on out I get modeling jobs with photographers every once in a while and it really builds up my portfolio up. I currently am not signed with any agency due to my height. It is extremely hard to get into the modeling business but I will never give up on what I love!

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Some of my personal goals would be to marry my soulmate, have two children preferably a boy and a girl, live in the beautiful country side of North Carolina while having an amazing career. Five or ten years from now I see myself hopefully further in the modeling industry, being able to travel the world and overall just living a happy lifestyle!

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Overall I have been modeling for about four years now. I have never done any runway shows or video and acting yet. I have done a lot of photo shoots throughout the years including: bathing suit, fashion, non-nude lingerie, car shoots, sports, casual and glamour.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

All the experiences I’ve had so far with modeling have been great! I have never came across any bad experience… yet! I always make sure to have rules before going to a shoot, that’s why I know I’ll always be safe and what not. It’s always good to be extra safe than not safe at all.

Brittany Alexander coming out of a poolHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I always make sure I have fun at my photo shoots, that way I don’t seem so uncomfortable. So far nothing embarrassing has happened to me. Lots of photographers I work with have a positive attitude which makes it more fun as well which is always a plus!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

As much as I love the modeling industry there is one big thing in my opinion that I would change which it being the height requirements. Lots of agencies will only take girls who are 5’9” and above. I just think that should be changed because every woman is beautiful in their own way no matter if they are tall or short. If they have what it takes to become a model for an agency I just don’t think it should be based on height. I am 5’4” and it is so hard for me to find a legit agency due to this rule.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I have always been a petite girl ever since I was little. I used to have such a bad time gaining weight. I would stay at the same weight for years. Now that I have gotten older I am gaining some weight, which makes me 100 lbs. I don’t workout much but if I do decide to, I make sure to get my sit-ups in for the day and a good mile run. As in nutrition I make sure to eat lots of vegetables and I also make sure to take a vitamin each day.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I would definitely never change anything about myself. God made me the person I am today for a reason. I am who I am and I love the woman I have become.

What is your favorite thing to do alone?

One thing I love to do alone is kick back and listen to some good country music! It really does sooth my mind and it relaxes me so much!

Interview with Lauren Poole — Full-time freelance model

Lauren Poole is a 22-year old model residing in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, I moved to south Florida when I turned eighteen years old with the hope of pursuing a career in the talent industry. Since making the move back in 2010, many things have happened which have all made me the strong person I am today.

There have been losses – my brother passed away on May 16, 2011 because he couldn’t see the point in living: I found his dead body upstairs after visiting my grandmother- , triumphs – overcoming such a burden, battling working as a freelancer and making it in small magazine publications, and working practically full-time as a brand ambassador, promotional model, and model-, and endless days and nights of wondering how to prove to the world that I am that girl who knows exactly what she’s doing and deserves the chance to prove herself to top clients.

Lauren Poole modeling a white dressThe talent industry is what I live for, so I consider that to be my hobby. Whether it’s spending countless hours trying to market myself, find work at some event, set up photo shoots, work as an extra, brand ambassador, promotional model, model, or whatever — that is practically my life 24/7. The perks of working at big events such as auto shows, boat shows, golf tournaments, festivals, shoots, sets and productions, and other kinds of events is that I am able to speak to many original people in the world; people I would have never been able to meet if I wasn’t doing the jobs that I do now. I love being so social. One reason is because you can learn a lot from other people, hear their stories, feel their pain or happiness, and it leaves me with such great feelings in the end. When I do have some time off because it’s a slow season or what not, I like to be outdoors and participate in such activities such as gardening, taking long walks, bicycling, and exploring hidden areas of south Florida.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first grew an interest in acting and modeling when I was twelve years old. I have always been a bit of a drama queen, so I figured acting would suit me well. I took some acting and modeling classes. While attending, I realized that I may actually have more of an interest in modeling than acting. I started to focus more on setting up photo shoots. Now, I am open to both acting and modeling.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goal is to find an agent or manager who will seriously try to help me make it in the talent industry. There are so many people, strangers even, who tell me I have what it takes. I may have what it takes, but ultimately it’s all about connections and knowing the right people.

I am visiting Los Angeles in August of this year. The reason is because Los Angeles has bigger productions going on than south Florida. I feel that my opportunity may be greater over there. If things turn out well, that’s where I see myself moving to.

Lauren Poole wearing nerdy glasses eating appleHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Unfortunately, modeling does not come around as often as I would like for it to. Some months, I may set up to two or three shoots which is probably the average. I have everything from avant-garde, high fashion, beauty, swimwear, commercial, hair modeling, jewelry, and maybe a few other looks. I have also been involved in a few video tutorials.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I have had some great opportunities with modeling in south Florida. I met a spectacular male photographer who gave me a shot at proving petite models can shoot high fashion. We have been published in a few magazines so far and have worked together close to a dozen times in one year. We work together so well, and I am so thankful to have met him.

I haven’t come across any horrific experiences yet fortunately. The only downfalls I have had are usual ones such as shooting with a few photographers and never receiving the images back.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Oh, wow. Working with my stellar high fashion and avant-garde photographer, there’s always something funny going on. The first shoot we ever did together, I should have known things would only become crazier from then on. He has put me in size stilt like heels, loves to put me in the water, put things on me as clothing that weren’t really clothes -i.e. paint swatch dress creations, simple jumbo clothes, a lamp shade, among others-, and put every color wig on my head you can think of. It’s always a blast, and it seems like I make him laugh somehow at every photo shoot because of the crazy faces I make sometimes while in the zone trying to shoot.

Lauren Poole face closeupIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yes! I do not believe that it’s right for models who are 5’8″+ to have it made while if you’re under 5’6″, you have the biggest struggle. Of course, I understand that one reason for this is because the clothes are made to fit models who are 5’8″ and have perfect measurements. To me, that is living in an unrealistic world. Models like myself are not treated fairly or shown enough support. I have the longest eyelashes you could ever imagine, porcelain skin, and big, mesmerizing eyes. The world may never know this though because agencies and clients do not give me a fair chance.

Please, look at true beauty for what it’s really worth. Don’t try to determine beauty by numbers and height. Those things don’t mean anything to me personally.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I have rejoined the gym. I now go there at least four days a week. While I’m there, I like to work every muscle in my body – head to toe. I use just about all the machines available to make sure I have strong muscles everywhere. It’s also important to increase your heart rate which is why I use the step climber or elliptical machine. Generally, I spend about one hour at the gym to receive a sufficient workout.

As for eating, I became a gluten free dieter back in January 2013. Since then, I have only experienced this type of eating habit. I love it because I feel like I have more energy, less full, and happier overall. I have learned about several new foods which I probably would have never known about if I didn’t make the switch. I now try to make sure I am consuming enough key nutrients such as protein intake, iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and so on.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Some people who don’t know me extremely well may not realize that I like to over analyze things. I like to dig deep into people’s thoughts and life. I like to learn new things on a daily basis. I’m a perfectionist. I try to see the best in people. I don’t judge anyone because each person is unique. I like to treat everyone fairly. You could say that I’m somewhat of a hippie with the information provided. Just about every new person I meet tells me I am very interesting. The reason is probably because I am nowhere close to being like your typical twenty something year old. I live life in an unusual way and that’s what keeps the world guessing about me.

Lauren Poole stucked in a bathWould you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change anything about myself. Here’s why:

Tragedies happen. Life happens. Decisions are made left, right, and spur of the moment. While I have made sour decisions in the past, I don’t have any regrets because everything that has happened plays a part in the person I am today. Accidents happen that you have no control over. You can’t “change” that accident. It just happened. Maybe you were the cause of the accident, or someone else was. Either way, it happened. You must take everything life throws at you and choose how to handle it. It’s easy to become overwhelmed instead of thinking logically. In the end though, it’s important to learn to accept yourself and live life as if you are the only person who matters. That may sound like having a big ego, but I don’t mean it like that. We underestimate ourselves. We don’t give ourselves enough credit. We’re constantly patting other people on the back and sometimes we forget to pat our own self on the back.

Here’s what you have to remember in the end:

Life is one big joke. You can either choose to laugh about it or cry about it.

In this industry I chose to become involved in, it is super easy to want to shed tears all the time. I have the most awesome friends and family though who are right by my side and love me even though I’m only 5’3″.

With that said, I am going to promise to not change a thing about myself, laugh at life, and continue to fight for right to be a successful model.

If you had only 24 hours left to live, what would you do?

I would spend all of my money someway.

Interview with Sasha — Full-time working mother and model

Sasha is a 24-year old model residing in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, my name is Sasha Williams. I was born in Hollywood, Florida. I am married with a son. Love my family to death. I am a volleyball player and I am studying to become a Psychologist.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I started while living in Pembroke Pines, Florida in 2009. My friend Von Clinton is an amazing photographer who took my first professional photos. I like being the center of attention for a little while so runways always make me happy.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I will have my Doctorate’s degree in psychology and hopefully be modeling at least part time, if not full time.

Sasha wearing black jeans in a streetHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Right now I have not being modeling as much as I want. I just moved to the San Antonio area so I need to get acclaimed to the area first. But once I get settled I will start doing photo shoots more often.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience I have had was doing a runway show for a Caribbean company in Fort Lauderdale. I met so many beautiful models and the atmosphere was great. We didn’t know each other but it was amazing. No matter what I’m wearing on stage I feel amazing with all eyes on me.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I’m so lucky that I have not. Don’t wanna jinx myself though.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yes I would. If I could change anything it would be that there are more plus size models. Big women are beautiful and they should be showing the world their confidence in a bikini photo shoot. This would help empower bigger females and let them know they are beautiful.

Sasha modeling a black dressDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I practice volleyball and soccer. I eat anything and everything. I love candy, fruits and vegetables. I also love Chinese food.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I have been in hype hair magazine a couple times. Not a feature but one day I will get there.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I would not change anything about my body. I love me the way I am. Now if God made me with a little more boobs I would not complain…

What is the longest you have gone without taking a bath?

About 3 days. It was a bet between me and my friends.

Interview with Red — Tattooed Model, Mother, Jäger Girl

Red is a 24-year old model residing in Smyrna, Delaware.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Born in South Carolina, grown in little old Delaware – the name is Ashley, but Red is more appropriate nowadays. Along with raising my tiny monster, Pierceson, I hold the title for a lot of things. Model, Brand Ambassador, Nursing Student, Jäger Girl, and my newest venture, Cocktail Waitress at a strip club.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

Oh goodness, girls ask me this all the time!

I got my foot in the door to the modeling industry working at car shows for an audio company when I was 20. It all happened so fast, it was kinda just like “here, put this shirt on and go take pictures with people’s cars.” That’s what started my portfolio. After that, I just ventured into bigger, better, and more tasteful projects. Haven’t looked back since.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Well I was about to say “One day I hope to have my shit together.” But thinking about it, I enjoy my crazy, unpredictable, hellish little life. Keeps me on my toes, and that’s the best way to be, right?

In the next few years, I plan on graduating nursing school and landing a Labor & Delivery RN position. Building up my portfolio bigger and better than ever, being recognized more than just around my area. Living on my own, no more roommates. And continuing to live my life happily ever after raising hell with Pierceson.

Red modeling a bridal dress in the countrysideHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I frequently do promotional modeling. Making appearances at various locations, promoting the job at hand, then leave. I love it. I often do photo shoots too. Mainly glamour, boudior, and promotional. I’d love to venture out and broaden my horizons in that sense. I could rock a catwalk.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My worst experience hands down was 3 years ago, receiving a fraudulent check that I thought was from an event I’d worked. After I deposited it I found out it was a fraud, and I am the one that got punished for it. Comes with a “Black List” label on Check Systems, and not being able to open a bank account for 5 years. I still have 2 years to go, lucky me!

My best experience would be working for Jägermeister. I have met so many interesting and amazing people working promotions for them. It really put into perspective for me that everyone is their own uniquely beautiful person. Plus, being down at the beach all summer working a fun ass job has its perks too.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Well back when I was doing car shows, one of the events consisted of a Dunking Booth that I somehow ended up being volunteered for. Horribly embarrassing. I was wearing a white top, make up running down my face, hair had me looking like a drown cat. Wouldn’t recommend that to anyone!

Red wearing a pink top and black miniskirtIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yes! Well not change it, but advice I would love to give. To girls new to the industry, or trying to make their way into it; You do not have to take your clothes off to be noticed. And once you do, that’s mainly what you’ll be wanted for. If that’s the route you want to go, make sure it’s classy and tasteful. Something you’ll be proud of!

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I do not play any sports, but if I did have time for volleyball I’d be in there like swimwear! My jobs require me to be on my feet pretty much all day, I could probably run a marathon in stilettos by now and not think twice about it. Come to think of it, I have climbed the side of a cliff in heels for a shoot before!

When it comes to food, I eat whatever I want. But whatever I want doesn’t usually consist of anything greasy, fatty, or sugary anyway. I do love a good pizza though!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m actually super self conscious of my appearance. Weird, right?

Would you change anything about yourself?

As self conscious as I may be, I don’t think I’d actually change anything about myself. Because it makes me who I am. Except there may be a boob job in my future, I would change that!

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I have the sickest shark phobia, but I love the beach! I am terrified yet fascinated. I will not even swim in a pool by myself, no matter the size. I start thinking about Sharks and it freaks me out. If I’m in water, someone has to be with me at all times. Yet, I’m glued to the TV during Shark Week, that’s my shit.

Interview with Haylan Victoria — Fine artist, vocalist, and model

Haylan Victoria is a 22-year old model residing in Hartford, Connecticut.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I’ve always been fascinated by the creative arts, and the time and effort people put into their works. My mother was a painter, and my dad was always listening to things like the B-52’s, Ramones, and Pink Floyd, so I was heavily influenced by their alternative lifestyles. I bounced back and forth between family members growing up, so singing and drawing were always there for me to express myself. For a long time I was afraid of the competition in the arts world, but after much encouragement from friends and family I’ve changed my major to graphic design. I have no idea where that will lead me, but I know now that whatever I set out to do will be where my heart lies.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I used to work at the college radio station at Western Connecticut State University, and there was a shoot for all of the DJ’s and hosts. Joe Yunckes, the photographer, reached out to me after the fact and asked if I would model for him. He was the first person to ever shoot me, and he suggested I consider looking into working with more people. It had always seemed like a far-fetched idea, but when I put myself out I was shocked by the amount of photographers who wanted to work with me. Since then it’s been a snow-ball effect of awesome!

Haylan Victoria modeling a bridal dress in the woodsWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Personally and professionally, I still have no idea what I want to do. I’ve been modeling for three years now, and more than anything else I’m enamored by the people I get to work with. To put it in a nutshell, my goal is to work with crazy and fun folks who want to create. Whether that be visual art, music, or film; there are so many facets of humanity that can be expressed through these mediums. The people are what make them interesting.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I do about four or five runway shows a year, and shoot very irregularly. Because I’m a full-time student and work in an art gallery, there’s not a whole lot of time in between to focus on modeling. This past year I’ve done about two shoots per month, which is a lot less than I would like, but, “que sera, sera.”

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

By far the most amazing times of my life are always with Isabel Vinson. She is my modeling guru, and has given me more help and advice than anyone in the modeling industry. Because of her I have learned the ways of fashion barter, how to get paid, and when to not care about what the haters think. The beautiful part of this is that it’s translated into my daily life, enveloping my entire persona with a confidence I would not have had otherwise.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

My second runway show ever was with Redfield Designs. She’s a steampunk artist, so all of her dresses were super long and victorian styled. I was confident that everything would be perfect, but little did I know that there would be stairs involved. The perfect combination of a floor length dress, seven inch heels, and overconfidence caused me to eat carpet on my way up. Luckily, it wasn’t caught on film.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

How competitive it is!!! I love when I walk into a room of models at a show and everyone is super friendly, but that doesn’t happen all the time. I think if people could drop the whole, “I’m going to be better than you,” mentality, life would be a little easier.

Haylan Victoria wearing a see-through dressDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Daily stretching is vital to my work. Although I don’t model as often as I used to, there is nothing worse than going into a figure shoot and feeling sore afterwards. Also, I wear heels around the house when I’m cleaning up to keep my balance on point. As far as nutrition goes, I eat what I want, when I want. Luckily, I don’t want processed unnatural things in my body, and live in Connecticut where local farmers are very supported. Chocolate cravings are no thing when you live five minutes away from a chocolatier who uses all local and organic ingredients.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

When I was twelve I entered the state foster system. For the first few years I bounced around homes, until I was accepted to a group home for girls who were “well-behaved.” Both of my parents have been sober and doing incredibly well in their recovery since then, and I know I would not be who I am today if it weren’t for seeing their struggles, and going through my own. I hope to some day give back, through running a scholarship program for teens in the foster system.

Would you change anything about yourself?

The one and only thing I would ever consider changing about myself is my doubt. Very frequently I find myself wondering if pursuing modeling is worth the stress, or if my art will ever be something people will like, and sometimes that doubt is difficult to overcome. However, it’s a natural feeling that all people experience. Questioning my self and quality of work causes me to be thoughtful and conscientious of all that I do.

Have you ever gone without wearing underwear all day? Why & what did you do?

I actually go commando quite regularly. For a while a friend of mine and I decided we would just stop wearing bras and panties for an entire semester, and it was amazing! People stared and made comments occasionally, but my boobs had never felt better. If I wear a skirt or am going to be giving my boyfriend a strip tease I might put on a thong, but besides that I don’t see the need to bother!

Joey D is a 35-year old model residing in Chicago, Illinois.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in Indiana and lived with my family until 1997, when I moved to Chicago for college. I’ve lived here ever since. I enjoy working out and inspiring others to reach their health goals. I incorporate a psychological aspect to my training and advice. I believe in a holistic approach to complete health stemming from over 20 years in the gym and my MA in psychology. In my spare time I enjoy video games and reading. I run a couple websites, dance at events, and do other odd jobs to keep my life interesting.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I’ve been modeling off and on for 15 years. Not until 2014 did I start to focus on modeling. Since then, it’s been non-stop and I love it. I decided to focus on it since I was in graduate school and needed some extra income.

SONY DSCWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I’ve achieved so much in life that I’m at the point that everything is just icing on the cake. I never live to work and only believe in working to live so that I enjoy everything I do. If I’m still inspiring and helping people in some way for the rest of my life, I’ll be happy. There is no limit to the possibilities of what life can offer. I embrace every experience and look forward to each one.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I average about a shoot a month. I generally only do photo shoots focused on fitness and health modeling.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

Every experience was awesome. There’s nothing I could classify as a worst experience. Since each one is different, it created a memory that will last forever.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Yes, I was shooting in TX and went with the photographer to pick up food after the shoot. The people at the restaurant recognized me. Then, we stopped at a drug store and the woman behind me bought my products for me for no reason other than she wanted to. It was so crazy and awesome. I was speechless.

Joey D lying on a bedDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I do not participate in any sports, but I eat like a bodybuilder. Bulking and cutting nutrition plans are my life. I’m constantly adjusting my food intake and tweaking things to create my body how I want it to look.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m a classically trained singer. I’m actually working on getting a demo out in the future. Possibly on my YouTube channel or somewhere. I’ll keep you posted.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I regret nothing. Everything about me exists because of an experience I had. I love having lived my life and look forward to every future moment to see how it shapes my personality.

What is the longest you have gone without taking a bath?

I’ve gone 5 days without bathing. Instead of going on vacation, I stayed home and did nothing but played video games. It was amazing, but by the end I realized I really needed to shower and get out of the house. It made me appreciate human contact. haha!

Interview with Sierra Lanae — Fitness & Fashion Model battling MS

Sierra Lanae is an 18-year old model residing in Aurora, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in Thorton, CO. My mom, Jen Brown, is a fitness model and competitor in the NPC & has been competing for over 5 years. I go to school for cosmetology but at the end of the day there is nothing I love more than going to the gym.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I got into modeling in the summer of 2014. I started because I want to make sure I do everything I’ve ever wanted to do before my Multiple Sclerosis takes over, one of those things on my list is modeling. I also had huge insecurities with the way I looked. When I was younger struggled with anorexia and bulimia. After that I struggled with eating too much and never wanting to go outside or be around people, I was so ashamed of how I looked. My insecurities got better when I started going to the gym everyday and saw how my hard work & passion was improving my life for the better. I was still really insecure when I started modeling; I thought if I put myself out there I may like what I see & I do! Modeling has changed my life completely!

Sierra Lanae wearing shorts and topWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My biggest dream was to fight MMA until I found out the stress it would put on my body with MS would make it worse. I now wish to pursue my modeling career and compete in NPC. I also wish to graduate cosmetology school and after get certified in personal training and nutrition. I also want to do modeling workshops to teach other models how to use their insecurities to their advantage.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I have at least a couple photo shoots a month. I haven’t done any catwalks and only one video commercial.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I would say my best experience in modeling is when someone messaged me on Facebook after my first time being in a magazine and told me they were a huge fan and loved my work. The worst experience would have to be a photo shoot I had where he would take one picture put the camera down and make sexual jokes followed by comments on how I should consider nude.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

In my very first photo shoot someone stole my shoes downtown that I was borrowing from a friend.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

That in order to make it in the industry, everyone thinks you have to get nude and you don’t.

Sierra Lanae hanging from a fork liftDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Fitness and nutrition in everyone’s life, not just models! Proper Nutrition is one of the most important factors in a healthy lifestyle. I personally eat a lot of protein, fruits and veggies; any carbs I have I cut off at about 4pm. I also eat 5 to 6 times a day and drink as much water as possible. Fitness side of things cardio and I are not friends but I try and at least get 20 minutes cardio session in the early morning and after a workout. Mixed Martial Arts is the only cardio I love to do and would suggest it for everyone to try. I love lifting being able to go into the gym put on your headphones and drowned the world out for an hour or two makes all the difference to make you happier & more relaxed. Not to mention when you reach a new max weight or see progress, that amazing feeling you get knowing it’s because of your hardwork! A healthy physique is something that can’t be bought and has to be worked for.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m a superman nerd -everyone knows this-. Every boyfriend I had until graduated high school somewhat looked like Superman or reminded me of Superman. I use to also read the comic books and do different voices for each character. I would also play the radio show to put me to sleep.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I take people’s criticism to heart too much.

What features do you look for in a partner?

I guess my answer to that is someone that I can be myself around. Someone I can go to the gym with because I am not giving that up for anyone! If we can’t have a real conversation it’s not going to work. They also have to be funny. I care about personality more than anything else.

Interview with Miss Black Lagoon — A Colorado siren

Miss Black Lagoon is a 20-year old model residing in Longmont, Colorado.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am a published made alternative model based in Colorado. I am also a very proud mother of a little boy. I was raised in East L.A. with a somewhat normal upbringing. I went to Sunday school for 1 semester as a child but I was also very strong opinionated and I almost got in trouble one time when my teacher asked me if I thought I was as perfect as Jesus Christ and I said “yes” and she yelled at me and I was so confused as to why. I don’t really let others think for me. As a child I wrote a lot of poetry and that still follows me today. I still write and sometimes even write short novels. I have interests in almost anything; I can adopt to almost anything that intrigues me so it’s very hard for make to have dull moments. I grew up having a father as a tattoo artist so I was able to look through the magazines he would buy such as Tattoo, Ink, Flash and others… And when I would look through them I would always see all these beautiful models with tattoos and I knew that one day I would want to be just like them.

Miss Black Lagoon face closeupWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first got involved in modeling when I was approached my a local photographer in my town. She saw that I was able to do victory rolls -a hair do- on myself and asked if I wanted to do a pinup photo shoot and I said yes. I was only 17 at the time and that was the first ever pinup photo shoot that I did and when I turned 18 I decided to post those pictures on Model Mayhem and that’s when my modeling career sort of snow balled into what it is now.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goal is to just be very well known and let people know what I do or what I like to do and let my passion for modeling shine through to the point where I am taken as a serious alternative model. I would love to just get my name out there.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I mainly do a lot of alternative pinup photo shoots. Currently I’m in the process of starting a calendar. I would love to do more video work, I was involved in the music video “Karla the strange ” by Maddy Ellwanger. And I also have experience with competing in Pin Up contests.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

Most of the shoots I have are always so great that it’s hard to pick the best and I’ve never really have had a “worst” experience yet.

I like to work with professional people who respect me as I will always respect them, so I am very picky at who I choose to work with and because of that I rarely get a bad experience.

Miss Black Lagoon posing at a red doorHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I have had soo many that it is seriously so weird to even mention. This one time I wore such see through clear under wear that my private part was showing and I have no idea. It was seriously an embarrassing moment.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I would love for more alternative models to get more recognition in the high fashion industry.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Unforgivably I don’t play sports or eat healthy but I do make it a priority every night or at least 5 nights a week to work out.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I am very obsessed with tarantulas and bats. I’ve always been as a child. I never really had a cat or a dog as a pet when I was younger but I always had a pet tarantula around.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I would love more tattoos.

Do you have any fears or phobias?

Dying without leaving an impact on someone scares me to death.
