Interview with Marianne Fredericks

Marianne Fredericks is a 21-year old model residing in San Diego, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I’ve been born and raised in Southern California. My interests are tattooing, modeling, painting, drawing, cosplaying, and anything creative.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I got involved in the modeling industry to get extra money on the side of my main job, tattooing. But this industry has treated me well and plan on staying in it for longer. A friend of mine did photography and asked me to model for them, so ever since then I’ve been building up my portfolio. It’s been over a few years now.

Marianne Fredericks next to a colorful wallWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goals for my personal life in 5-10 years would be to have my own house, be married, and travel a lot. Hopefully one day to see the world or an archaeological dig like in egypt, since I love history.

My career goals in 5-10 years are pretty high standards, I’ll always be pushing myself to be better. With my tattooing, or art, or modeling, I will always strive to be better than I was yesterday.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I model every week or so. I try to keep it at a minimum so I don’t get overwhelmed by plans, and I can plan what to bring to the shoot with the photographer. Im 5’2, so I do photo-shoots like fashion, print, etc. I try to always switch up my style with hair or clothing style.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best modeling experience I’ve had so far would have to be my first paid shoot. That was the first thing that said to me “hey, you’re doing something right. Continue on!”.
The worst experience is when I was in 5 inch heels hiking up rocks to get to a shot. But it was worth it, there’s been some silly things like that along the way but they aren’t what I’d consider “worst experiences”. I’m a pretty tough trooper!

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

One time while walking through downtown with a photographer and make up artist to go to the shooting location, there was a stick fighting or pole fighting, maybe fencing….or something like that! and a group of young men were talking to us while walking to the event, and one took my hand, kissed it, and tried dragging me to the sword fighting. Sorry I had to crush the young knights’ dream and shoot.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yes, If I could change the industry, it would be so that people have more respect for themselves. Have boundaries, and realize when to stop. I know a lot of women these days post photos their friends took of them on an iPhone and call it modeling. Sad thing is most people can’t tell the difference between this kind of pictures and the real art of photography.

Marianne Fredericks in a black mini skirtDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I used to be into ice skating a lot when I was younger. But currently I like to swim a lot as exercising. I think that nutrition and exercise is very important for everyone, and everything should be in moderation. As for myself, I am not on a diet and frequently indulge in foods I like or whatever sounds tasty. I have a fast metabolism thankfully!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m 5’2, which is why I don’t do runways, only print. Originally blonde, not born a neon red head. My first tattoo was a harry potter tattoo, which is located on my left arm. Last but not least, I took Egyptology in college and I am a huge fan of ancient history.

Would you change anything about yourself (physical or otherwise) if you could?

If I could change anything about myself, I would chose not to. There’s no such thing as a perfect person, and everyone’s “imperfection” is what makes them an individual. It’s what makes you, you.

What was the meanest rumor ever spread about you?

Not a lot of people know this but I was bullied a lot all my life. Ever since elementary school. I left public school and went to home school. I was teased for being an artist, being ugly, weird, always drawing. I was alone and by myself a lot and no guy ever liked me when I was younger. As soon as I grew out of my awkward phase everyone started to want to be my friend, and I had enough of it. It really opened my eyes up to bullying and the effects it can have on someone. I hope more people take it seriously and make a change. I wouldn’t take any of it back, because if they have never bullied me, it wouldn’t have made me who I was today. But that’s something that not a lot of people know about me and I’d like to make people more aware. You can be bullied at any age, so think about how you treat others yourself. Take a good look in the mirror and help others instead of hurt.
