Interview with K. Reed — Business Yogi Model Wildwoman

K. Reed is a 25-year old model residing in Atlanta, Georgia

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

As a childhood dancer, Kelsey Reed has always felt best when in tune with her body and mind. After a few failed high school attempts with yoga, Reed found her love for the practice in college during her parents divorce, heartbreak, and family addiction. Since 2009, Reed has been an active yoga practitioner and in 2012, she received her RYT-250 hour training from Asheville Community Yoga Center.

Yoga has taught her to be aware of her breath in any situation, for it is her compass home. When breathing through life, she can accept and activate all Infinite awareness that is channeled through her. Since earning her degree in Health and Wellness Promotion from UNC Asheville, she has dedicated her life to sharing this practice with the world to improve and motivate the health and growth of others. In finding yoga, she has found a shared bliss that transcends the unconscious to consciousness.

K. Reed next to a treeWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first started modeling in 2012 in Asheville, North Carolina. I knew a local photographer there and after our first photo shoot she told me that I should really try and get into the industry, so that’s what I did – connected with other local photographers and began to build my portfolio. Eventually, people started contacting me to shoot! Now, I also incorporate my yoga business into my photos as well.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

* Owning my own yoga studio
* Professional yoga model
* Traveling the world for retreats
* Innercise Yoga, LLC, the name of my business, is internationally recognized as a new branch of Yoga

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I mostly am experienced in photoshoot – of all kinds. I model every few weeks.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The worst is when a male photographer is creepy, or asks you to take nude photos when you have already let them know that is not part of the deal. The best is when I can laugh, have fun, and make real collaborative art with a photographer.

K. Reed face closeupHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Not really.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

The body type! I am very petite, and it’s silly that I can’t make a career from modeling just because of size. I don’t show short in photos if shot right at all, I am very proportional.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Yoga and a little running are my forms of exercise. I am a yoga teacher, so I practice almost every day. I eat mostly a plant-based diet and I am a total health-nut so diet and exercise are extremely important to me.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m an introvert, I just play a really good extrovert.

Would you change anything about yourself?

No. I’ve come a long way into accepting myself how I am, and I’m sticking with that!

What is your guilty pleasure?

A nice joint!

Interview with Tara Jones

Tara Jones is a 23-year old model residing in Santa Cruz, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in Stinson Beach, CA. I currently work in Marketing. My passions include acting and sports.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I love art and creating beauty. Acting is what started my modeling. I love creating a scene, plot or character. I started modeling when I was 16 and continued on after college.

Tara Jones wearing a folk dressWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I would love to be a stand up comedian. I would hope that in five or ten years I would be comfortably on stage as a Comedian.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I work as a model about 3-4 times a month. I’ve done runway, fashion, art, commercial, editorial and glamour.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I think the best experience is when I get lead into an acting scene during them modeling shoot, it gives me a good direction to aim towards. The worst experiences are people trying to get you to take your clothes off. I had a guy tell me he had shot ver 75 girls on playboy and follow me around all day asking if he could take my pictures. That’s annoying.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I once opened a beer at the end of the runway because they told me I could do whatever I wanted, and that’s what I wanted to do. I don’t think that’s what they had in mind when they originally told me that.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I think I would have it more women run. I find it annoying that men dictate what is beautiful. Women need to start claiming that how we naturally are is beautiful and making that the standard for beauty, what makes you, uniquely you.

Tara Jones walking on a railroadDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I work out every morning. I do yoga and some basic martial arts resistance training. I also love the batting cages. I eat lots of fruits and too much mexican food. I drink protein shakes 5 days a week and eat energy bars 3 times a week. Nutrition is very important to me I notice a huge difference in my mood and wellbeing when I eat right.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I am naturally uncomfortable in front of a camera, but I power through it and eventually get the shots I need.

Would you change anything about yourself (physical or otherwise) if you could?

I used to do martial arts it made my body very strong, I miss being that strong and feeling so capable. I’ve recently started picking up resistance training to ground myself more into my body. I think its important to feel able to defend yourself in your own body.

What is your favorite thing to do alone?

I have no problem being alone, in fact, I require a lot of alone time between all the random gigs that I do. So you can find me walking, eating and sometimes even seeing a movie alone, I don’t mind, I like my own company.

Interview with Crystal Hoshaw

Crystal Hoshaw is a 25-year old model residing in San Francisco, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am a transplant from LA who relocated to the Bay Area as soon as I could “get out of dodge” as they say. My father is a real estate broker in LA and my mother helps him with the business. I started practicing yoga at 14 and fell in love with it. I went on to complete a teacher training at 17. As a teen, I was obsessed with philosophy and its potential for reflection and growth, and completed my BA in philosophy at 19. After a couple of years of grad school, I decided that pure philosophy wasn’t pragmatic enough for me and moved to Thailand for a year and a half to study yoga, Ayurveda, and Eastern philosophy. Now I’m back in the states hoping to apply what I learned to my life.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I got involved in modeling by chance, when I was new to the Bay Area and exploring my sexuality. I posted a W4W ad on craigslist with a photograph, and got an email from a photographer asking to shoot me. It seemed like a good way to make a bit of extra income while I was in grad school, so I started networking with photographers who enjoyed exploring the artistic aspects of the work.

Crystal Hoshaw in a black dressWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In five to ten years, I see myself with my family enjoying a life untethered to time or place. I hope to travel and experience different cultures and people, and to find ways to apply myself to help improve circumstances for those who are less fortunate. I think the world is on the verge of major change, and I want to contribute to being a force for making sure that change is a positive one.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I consider myself something of a hobbyist model and usually do a shoot once a month. My favorite shoots are artistic and bold, outdoor, and narrative. I primarily do photo shoots but have done some art modeling as well.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My best experience modeling is when I have a real connection to the photographer and we can create meaningful art together. This happens quite often and feel blessed for that. I haven’t had any particularly negative experiences, and I’m grateful for that as well.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I’ve had a few “wardrobe malfunctions”, but that’s par for the course.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Oy! Where do I start? There is such a need for diverse beauty to be showcased, for narrow definitions of contrived beauty to be chucked. The modeling industry should be an expression of women’s inherent beauty and not a means of excluding it from the limelight.

Crystal Hoshaw wearing a white dress and bootsDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I believe being in touch with your body is essential for health and I exercise daily. I do a combination of conditioning, cardio, and strength work. I was recently training in catch wrestling and found that to be an extraordinary tool not only for fitness but for sharpening my mind. I choose foods with a blend of Ayurvedic and paleo principles in mind, and always strive to listen to my body. I don’t believe there is such a thing as a universal diet prescription, but that we all have unique needs for health. Nutrition and exercise are a major pillar of my life, necessary to keep me feeling in balance.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m pretty transparent, but I suspect not many people know I went to track & field finals for shot put when I was 12.

Would you change anything about yourself (physical or otherwise) if you could?

The only things I’d like to change about myself are the bad habits that don’t serve me or the world I live in and keep me from being the highest expression of myself.

How do you think you are most likely to die?

I think I’m most likely to die one of two ways; 1) I’ll completely lose my marbles and go insane, or 2) I’ll close my eyes, invite in a feeling of bliss, and let go.
