Interview with Gigi — Dental Assistant Quirky Asian Model

Gigi is a 24-year old model residing in Washington, District of Columbia.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born in Baltimore, MD but grew up in a small town named Odenton and was born into a family of 4, of whom I am the youngest. I have 2 older sisters aged 34 and 32, and an older brother aged 26. I grew up singing karaoke with my Father who wanted to be a singer back in Korea but couldn’t continue his dream because my Mother was pregnant with my oldest sister at the time.

I’ve always wanted to be an actress or work in the entertainment industry but was too shy to pursue the career. My hobbies include Karaoke, adventuring out into a town, eating a lot of ice cream with no regrets, watching movies, listening to music, taking pictures, hanging out with my closest friends, skyping with my godson who lives in Alaska, making videos, specially music videos. My interests include music therapy sessions, Pinterest, Fashion, Food, traveling, experiencing life and blogging.

Although my profession is being a Dental Assistant, Model, Singer and Godmom, I am still in the process of finding myself.

Gigi modeling white lingerie upside downWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I never dreamed of becoming a model. I had self esteem issues growing up and was never comfortable in my own skin. I was first asked to be the main girl in my best friend’s music video in which I was featured on the track back in 2013. The videographer loved my look and asked me why I hadn’t been in the entertainment industry before. After shooting the music video “All for You” by Maximus Ft Gi I was asked to model in an Ao Dai Fashion Show for the Vietnamese Community. And I guess since then I managed to finally pursue modeling as a hobby to better find myself.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My personal goal? Would be to be married to my best friend and have beautiful children while working in a field that I love. Five to Ten years from now, I’m not entirely sure where I will be nor what I will be doing. But I’m hoping I’ll be in an industry which I love while being married to the love of my life.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I want to model as much as I possibly can but because I work full time as a dental assistant I rarely get the chance to model. But lately, my modeling gigs have been for Fashion related shoots; glamour, fashion, car photo-shoots. I would love to be in videos, such as short films on youtube or vlogs if I were given the chance.

Gigi modeling a purple stripped miniskirtDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I don’t have time to play sports, I used to play football for my church back in high school. I typically eat, whatever I want. I don’t believe in starving myself just to look a certain way.

Nutrition and exercise is crucial to one’s lifestyle, but I would be a hypocrite if I said I solely focus on that. I have a full time job and it leaves me completely exhausted at the end of the day. I try to exercise whenever I have the chance to. Such as doing squats or walking around places, typically downtown places or at malls.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

People don’t know that I can act.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Honestly, I would change my boobs. I’m perfectly content with the rest of my body.

What was the meanest rumor ever spread about you?

The meanest rumor I’ve ever heard about myself would definitely be that I’m a crazy bitch. I am pretty much the nicest chill down to earth person you could ever come across, I would never do anything to hurt someone.

Interview with Nick Denbeigh — Actor and Martial Artist

Nick Denbeigh is a 25-year old model residing in West Hollywood, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey everyone! I am Nick Denbeigh, an Actor from Spokane, WA. Professionally I have been acting and modeling the past 6 years. Before that I spent time in the arena football league. Currently I train in Traditional Kung Fu with an emphasis in Northern Styles and weapons. I love to read, train and compete in athletic activities.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first started in Acting and Model in 2008 with a brief role in Bring It On Fight to the Finish and opposite Christina Milian in her music video Us Against The World featuring just me and her. From there I was hooked and still can’t get enough being on set and preparing for roles.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My professional goals are to make films for a global marketplace. I want everything I do to be of the highest quality and memorable. It has to stand the best of time and make people want to view the material over and over. In 5 years I see myself making tent pole action films. Filming 2 studio and 1 indie project every year.

Nick Denbeigh wearing a casual outfitHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Acting and modeling is my career. I’m actively doing something in that field everyday from researching characters or trends to actual shoots. Right now I’m heading into post on a project entitled ASCENDED MASTERS, which my team and I have put a lot of work into as well as gearing up for fashion week in NYC.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience for me is always viewing the finished product. All of this work goes into these things behind the scenes that not too many people see and when it is all said and done the final product is amazing. For instance ASCENDED MASTERS has been in the works for about a year now from the planning, writing, shot list, choreography for the fight scenes, rehearsal to actually shooting and post. Once it is finish it can never be taken away and that is a very special thing.

The worst experience is just the down time. I have to work on something at all times or I get depressed. I love this industry so much that I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I did a shoot one time where I had full body removable tattoos all over my body. It took about 15 hours to apply it all and at the end of the day they were getting to remove it all. I’m practically naked in the changing area and one of the producer’s friends came to set and wanted to see the tattooing so I said of course. It turned out her friend was a famous actor that I had watched on TV growing up. It caught me completely off guard but it’s a pretty funny memory I have from that awesome shoot.

Nick Denbeigh wearing underwearIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

The industry is constantly evolving. It’s our jobs to embrace the changes and make the most of our opportunities and that is what I try to do.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I practice Traditional Kung Fu, play basketball, weight train, bike ride just to name a few. I was recently on the Nike 3 on 3 Basketball tournament at LA Live. I do martial arts choreography for films. Exercise is my life. I have been playing sports since I could walk and martial arts is part of my soul. Nutrition is key to keeping me healthy and fit. I never get sick and bounce back fast from injuries and it all has to do with the rigorous train I put myself through and what I put in my body.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

People don’t know how much I read and study. I am addicted to learning and growing. Pushing myself to perfection and I will make the sacrifices in order to do that.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change anything. I have been blessed with many talents and gifts and I try to maximize those. If there is something that needs change I address it. I work hard to change those things if there are any. So no there is nothing I would change that I can’t change.

What superpower do you wish you had? Why?

I wish I had the ability to teleport. Sitting in traffic is not my idea of fun especially living in LA. I would love to just be able to instantly be where I need to be. I want to explore different plants and galaxies and being able to teleport there would definitely save a lot of time.

B-Boy at the Edgewood Murals

This stunning high definition shows break dancing in ultra slow motion. It was shot with a Phantom HD and a set of Superspeed Zeiss Primes. And the images displayed are truly stunning. B-boy moves that seem to defy gravity at full speed are even more amazing in slow motion, and as you watch you half-expect the dancer to drop to the floor at any moment. The video was shot before a beautiful mural at Edgewood Murals in Washington DC in the United States. The dancer is local b-boy and instructor Geoff Chang, also known as Toys Are Us. The great sound track to the video is provided by DJ Shadow and the song is “Building Steam with a Grain of Salt.”

+ Who

Geoff Chang, or Toyz Are Us, is a b-boy and instructor. He works at Words Beats and Life Academy in Washington, DC. The academy was founded with a mission to transform lives and communities through the presentation and teaching of hip-hop culture. They offer free classes to young people in the elements of hip-hop: DJing, beat production, b-boying, emceeing, and graffiti. Plus they also teach photography, street art, spoken word and chess. Toyz Are Us is one of the most known and respected b-boys in the Untied States. He has been b-boying since 2000 and represents the Lionz of Zion crew. He uses old school techniques with a new school twist. He has won numerous competitions, including Hip Hop Addict 2011 and Break The Floor 2012.

+ Where

In the summer of 2009, five artists (Decoy, Pose 2, Joshua Mays, Quest Skinner and Chor Boogie) combined efforts on the largest mural in Washington DC. Called “From Edgewood to the Edge of the World,” it began as a wall 280 feet long and 15 feet high. It doubled in size with a project called The Edgewood Mural Jam, as over 65 artists combined to pain the adjacent wall. The mural is located in the parking lot of the Rhode Island Avenue Shopping Center.

+ What

oyz Are Us enters with a couple of flips in front of a stunning section of the Edgewood Mural. At around (0:30) the shot shifts to the b-boy dancing on top of a piece of paper before the same section of mural. The video continues with his dance routine, with some hand work at (0:50), and an overhead shot at (1:00) all in slow-motion. At (1:40) there is a closeup of his pivot hand on the ground and then at (2:00) a closeup of his face straining with the effort of the moves. (2:25) is an overhead shot of some spins. (2:45) a more close in shot of some back spins, showing the strain on Toyz’s face. We move back at (3:10) briefly, and then back in for a long sequence shoulder spins. He pops up at (4:20) and at (4:35) he poses in front of the mural. Then, credits (4:56).
