Interview with Janira Wolfe — Producer, Model, and Actress

Janira Wolfe is a 27-year old model residing in Los Angeles, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I grew up the oldest of 5 children, with parents that are still married, in the suburbs of Boston, where everyone graduated high school, and went off to some fancy college to begin working toward their eventual vanilla career. I was one of those people: I went to a small liberal arts college in Maine, where I studied psychology and human development; the only fields of study in which I had any interest, which, at the time, I thought meant the only profession in which I would ever work.

I graduated college and went on to work at a fancy hospital in Boston, and then I had various jobs in residential treatment centers for women with trauma, eating disorders, and teenagers with Borderline Personality Disorder, and also as a social worker for adults with chronic mental illness. I was good at what I did, and I even liked it for a period of time. For four years I worked in the field of mental health, with the plan to go back to graduate school, earn a PhD, do research, become a therapist… all kinds of things that I’ve not necessarily written off, but definitely have since put on hold.

Janira Wolfe modeling a thong and toplessI’m a pretty self-aware person, which means I noticed that my overall satisfaction with my life was certainly not improving as I continued “working toward my goal”, and it became clear that changes had to be made if my number one goal was to “find happiness”. I decided somehow that moving to California was the answer, and to save money to do that I had to find yet another source of income… modeling. Since then, modeling became not only my passion but my career, and in addition to modeling, when I have time, I love doing active, outdoorsy stuff, be it hiking, kayaking, sun-bathing, among others… I just love outside! I also love music; you can find me dancing my heart out to deep house in Hollywood pretty frequently, and when I’m lucky, I can take time to see other concerts as well.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

As stated above, I started modeling to earn extra cash to help me move out to California. The first shoot I did, I tried some fashion, lingerie, and nude, and I just really liked the artistic nude. I was a dancer growing up, and had really missed making art with my body, and quickly fell in love with this new form of expression I’d found. I started doing lots of fine art nude shoots in Boston before moving out to LA, and through that, I discovered my pretty feet, and my foot fetish. Once I discovered the foot fetish world, the doors opened even wider to the larger fetish world, and I tried out fetish acting. I thought I loved nude modeling, but nude modeling was like a high school romance. Fetish acting is the love of my life.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I recently launched my own website, where I have various memberships, and sell the fetish videos I produce and act in. I plan to continue acting and producing as long as possible, and to use the income from my site to support myself as I continue writing my books. I hope to have the first published within five years, and hopefully more by ten years. The books will be autobiographical, observational, educational, and written in efforts to help others as I continue doing what I love and living a life I enjoy.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I spend quite a bit of my time modeling, whether it’s freelance photos, fetish acting, cam-ing, or live action modeling at fetish parties. If I’m not modeling, I’m promoting, editing, or doing other busy work associated with it. I still do the artistic nudes I started out with, as well as some fashion, lingerie, glamour, and erotica. As I’ve mentioned, my main thing is fetish acting and cosplay: foot fetish, bondage, damsel in distress, super heroine, tickling, BDSM, among others… I model on MyFreeCams every once in a while when I have time and feel like some virtual play, and I also work as a live action model at events, particularly foot fetish events.

Janira Wolfe modeling a thong and her feetPlease tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best part of modeling for me has been the people I’ve met, both who have become personal friends, and have created beautiful art with. One of the producers I work with recruits models through ModelMayhem, and that’s how I started, and then how I ended up meeting my now best friend, with whom I act with and hang out with frequently. So that’s really awesome, and I’m very thankful for that. On the complete opposite side, there are some really horrible people out there. I’ve had some terrible experiences through ModelMayhem, including being drugged and taken advantage of. So, it’s definitely not all rainbows and butterflies.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I guess it’s hard to think of an answer when so much of what I do seems so outrageous to the general population anyway… haha.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Well yes, of course, there are plenty of things, but unfortunately most of the problems are problems with individuals, and not necessarily the industry as a whole.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I go hiking and running almost every day at Griffith park, and dance and do yoga in my apartment. I eat breakfast before I run, which is usually some kind of organic cereal or granola with some kind of milk or yogurt, and again after, which includes eggs, veggies, meat, toast. I then eat a few more times during the day, making sure to cover the nutrients with my fruits and veggies, while also consuming enough protein and carbs to allow my body to do all I ask of it. Nutrition and exercise play a pretty important role in my life, as not only do I need to look good for work, but I also want to feel good for myself.

Janira Wolfe in a black backgroundPlease share something people don’t know about you.

I mean, I’m pretty much an open book… just watch my blog!

Would you change anything about yourself?

Well, yes, I think we should always be better in the next moment than we were in the one before. Physically, I don’t like to focus on things I would change, unless they are actually possible, but I work pretty hard on keeping my body fit and the best version of my body it can be. As for my character, I’m constantly working on the way I interact with myself, others, and the world around me.

What features do you look for in a partner?

Every lover I’ve had, I’ve loved instantly. I feel pretty intensely compared to your average human… or so it seems per my and others’ observations. I therefore am very in tune with the way my energy interact with the energy of others. There is a certain calmness mixed with intense passion in the mixture of my own and a lover’s energy, and it’s that feeling that must be present for me to even consider a relationship with that person.

Interview with Maggie Dickey — Actress, Model, Artist, Dancer, Singer

Maggie Dickey is a 21-year old model residing in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m Maggie Dickey and I am a Dyslexic Artist born in Bellflower, California. I have been doing the arts since I was very young and have been pursing it ever since, while going to school and will eventually go to the University of Minnesota to get my BA in theatre. I have a passion for anything and everything artistic, love to make others laugh, and would love to become a comedian one day as well.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I was a sophomore in high school and I was just super determined to start modeling so I started using Model Mayhem, while being very careful, and still. My parents help me gain the confidence to succeed in this industry because of how much they respected and supported my dream. If it wasn’t for them I would not be where I am today.

Maggie Dickey modeling a red dressWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

To be honest I don’t want to imagine my life in 5 to 10 years because honestly I’m living in the moment, and personally hate being on my phone in front of people, as I think it’s so rude. But anyways my personal goals would be to be happy and have at least two Dalmatians, as they are my absolute favorite since I was a kid, and 101 Dalmatians is my life. I would love to get as far as I can in this industry, love making and creating things with other creative people, and hope to work with Lady Gaga one day.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Whenever I can, but it honestly depends on the job I get, and I love just doing photo shoots for free because I want to see how I age and do a big video of all my pictures at the end of my life. I honestly just love making art, and definitely am not a runway girl… I’m way too short and it’s just not my thing, I am definitely an actress.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My modeling experiences have been great, as I’ve just met so many wonderful and talented people. I love working with others like I said before, and feed off of other people’s creativity, while modeling clothing and being able to keep it afterwards is like my absolute favorite thing. Bad experiences would be just men making awkward comments while taking my pictures… Need I say more?

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

You mean my entire career right? That’s what being a talent is.

Maggie Dickey face closeupIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Definitely the height for runway models and the weight. I just wish everything was more natural and set a better example for younger women, as I still feel the pressures of the industry and my weight. I still get self conscious about my body and I do this stuff for pleasure.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Exercise definitely makes me feel good about myself and I can eat what I want the more I exercise so I like working out.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I am a Lady Gaga fanatic, she is my inspiration and I love her dearly, but I feel like everyone knows that because I make it so obvious. I am dyslexic and have struggled in school my whole life, the school systems made me feel like an outsider and that I would never be as smart as the other kids. I felt like I would never amount to anything; I was also sexually abused when I was young and it affects me to this day. I believe in justice, freedom and Woman’s rights.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Why? I was born this way! No one should feel they need to change anything about themselves!

What superpower do you wish you had? Why?

I would definitely love to be able to fly… Just so I could get to auditions fast and get to see people I haven’t seen in a while quickly, I want to travel without having to pay, I would love to be able to go to different projects in different countries in one day!

Interview with Alison P. Stuart — Natural Model and Versatile Artist

Alison P. Stuart is a 21-year old model residing in Kansas City, Missouri.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I reside in Kansas City, MO. where I was born and raised, and have always been kind of a complex individual who’s curious about almost everything under the sun. I enjoy creating art whether it’s tagging a wall or modeling in a photograph; I do a little bit of everything almost.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I started modeling when I was a Junior in High School because of my friends, RaeAnn Walters and Manaliki Wilson. RaeAnn actually needed me for this photo shoot she was doing for a scholarship to college and at first I was pretty iffy about it because I wasn’t as confident in my appearance but I ended up doing it anyways due to the fact that it was for a good cause. After I saw the photos though I felt more than confident and I have the both of them to thank for that.

Alison P. Stuart wearing a green dressWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

As for goals, I want to travel and shop at all the thrift stores around the world, I want to be my own boss and rule what’s mine, I want to help promote young artists whether it’s modeling in their designs or blasting their music on the metro, I want to help them build up their confidence like RaeAnn and Manaliki did for me. Who knows where I will be in 5 or 10 years though, probably somewhere waiting on my next flight.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I model probably once a month if not more or less. I’m not signed to any agencies at the moment and I’m just doing freelance work right now. My modeling consists of photo shoots with different photographers. I have had auditions that required me to act out a commercial and walk down a runway, though.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I play a lot of tennis, enjoy running, skating and riding bikes. I always make sure to stay hydrated whether it’s water or juice, while doing my best to stay away from consuming too much of one thing including sugar, salt or whatever the case may be. My diet basically revolves around the main food groups though especially protein and sugars. Without consuming those two I’m super cranky and tired.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m gay.

Alison P. Stuart wearing sneakersWould you change anything about yourself?

I’d like to say nothing at all, but if I could get rid of the hair on my forearms that’d be pretty cool.

If you had only 24 hours left to live, what would you do?

If I only had 24 hours left to live, I’m not really sure what I would do. I would say I’d get on a plane and go to Brazil but that plane ride would probably take up half the day. So I’d most likely just go sky diving and do all the stuff I was scared to do because I was afraid that I might die while doing it. I’d also eat all my favorite foods and spend time with all my favorite people.

Interview with Trisha Kay — Gypsy model with versatility and passion

Trisha Kay is a 21-year old model residing in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Well hello there! I’m a 21 year old german and irish firecracker born in the small rural town of Ionia in the beautiful Michigan. I have lived in places all over Michigan like Grand Rapids, Detroit, Charlevoix, along with smaller cities in the state. I recently decided to pack up, throw my heart on my sleeve, get in my car, and move to Orange County, California to embrace new adventures out of the element I’ve known thus far! So far, sooo so good.

Some of my past occupations are bookstore clerk for the college I attended, which was Grand Rapids Community College who also advertised me on public transit buses, pandora, books, fliers and website; pizza girl and ninja, personal trainer, cutlery sales, Victoria Secret, go go dancing, and make-up art every so often. My personal time is spent painting, exercising, practicing my own photography, catching up with family, pampering, cooking nutritiously tasty meals, listening to music, and getting into shenanigans. I’m always traveling, the world is so big and beautiful…

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

Throughout my teens I very slowly rolled into modeling and had people approach me at events to do promotional work, photographers reaching out online, companies hiring me to model for ad campaigns, and more. I never thought I could actually be a “model” with my shapeliness and height but when I started to get paid after some portfolio building, I gained confidence and it has only been getting better for me since. It inspired me in many ways to explore makeup art, hair style, travel, my own physique, and the artistic aspects of it all. I signed with a few non exclusive talent agencies and modeled internationally before age 20.

Trisha Kay modeling light blue bikiniWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In 5 years, I would love to do something similar to what I do now: living my life filled with creativity, travel, amazing people, exotic animals, adventure, and self growth. I will most likely be working partially as a photographer, maybe some acting,

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I’ve done all sorts of modeling: multiple conventions, being the only model in a workshop full of photographers, pageants, Playboy published, bridal shows, fashion shows, catalog, commercial, swimsuit; I’m open to a lot, including freelance. I like booking photoshoots with hourly rates depending on content, talent, resources, attitude, travel logistics but a lot of my favorite gigs are booked through agents and scouts who make sure I get paid well, feel comfortable, and such a variety of work to choose from! Would you like to smile, pass out snacks, and meet some very great connections while getting paid and having fun on this day in this place? Why yes! I would.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experiences I’ve had in modeling were always surprises; seeing your face on the cover of a magazine at most major stores for a shoot that paid well and you had no idea would be sold on stands internationally is a very powerful and humbling experience. All the traveling I’ve done, free products I get comped, artistic expression I exude whenever I want, fun experiences I endure, and interesting, talented, amazing people I’ve met through this industry have highlighted the career immensely. The worst experience I’ve had is when I almost got taken in France while traveling on my own via train to shoots, I totally felt like I was in the movie! Much scarier in real life, plus creepy photographers or the ones that don’t give images in an appropriate time frame or fail to communicate well post shoot.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Some of the requests I get are pretty ridiculous, I won’t get into all the strange experiences but there was a point going through emails where I’m like, “how is pretending to kick a guy in the nuts and talking about it on film considered “modeling?” Lol. No thanks.

Trisha Kay modeling at swimsuit USAIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

People can be so judgmental. I don’t enjoy telling people that I model because they instantly make assumptions, pick at imperfections, or label me any one of various things. I love the job because I love the process of creation with emotions and design but there are a lot of inappropriate photographers, scams, and dangerous traveling situations you have to look out for as predators are very real, so always check references if you model. As far as everything else, I like seeing all sorts of modeling: big, tall, small, tatts, so I would create more awesomely uniquely beautiful independent genres of modeling besides the mainstream 5’9 and sunken in expectation fashion tends to demand.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I love exercise as much as I love chocolate and workout most days of the week with a cardio mixup of running, stair climbing, or biking, strength training, and stretching. Love throwing the fun stuff in along the way like yoga, which feels so good; boxing, swimming, basketball, golfing, volleyball, dancing, hiking, and skiing in between. I’ve been a vegetarian for the last three months so I find my protein in stuff like greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and protein bars. My diet is also filled with health conscious smoothies, green tea, peanut butter, whole grains, spicy meals, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and I’m usually up for trying anything with nutritional value. I definitely like to let myself indulge every once in a while, specially with gnocchi, pizza, fruit snacks… life’s too short, enjoy it!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I enjoy helping building homes for Habitat for Humanity, interacting closely with very dangerous animals, and I’m told I giggle in my sleep.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Physically, I’ve come to accept and love this meat bag I live in, so, I’m fine with what I’m venturing this earth in -most days”-. Besides that I think it would be so cool to be ridiculously hilarious because I love seeing people laugh and smile.

What is the longest you have gone without taking a bath?

To be honest, I take a bath at least once a day, and I hate showering. I’m always soaking in pretty scented aromatherapy while deep conditioning my hair and using my home made natural face masks thinking of the most random things while listening to my favorite tunes in my waterproof speaker. It’s my daily zen… so relaxing and enlightening to my spirit.

Interview with Seedy — Freelance Model

Seedy is a 20-year old model residing in Gretna, Louisiana.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello viewers, my name is Sequence but I preferred to be called my model name seedy. I was born in New Orleans,Louisiana, have one brother and sister who goe by the name Kemper and Trenell, respectively; we were all raised by our Mother Carisa who’s a single parent. Some things I like to do when I have free time is play volleyball and dance, although if you know me then you know I have such a passion for those things but not more than I do with modeling.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

Modeling wasn’t something that I always wanted to do, since I didn’t wake up and say “Hey I want to be a model”. It was just something I developed over time, and started out at the age of fourteen but didn’t take it serious until I was nineteen. To make a long story short I got with my cousin “Phylia” who’s a photographer and model also. Once I did my photoshoot with her I posted my pictures on Model Mayhem and jobs were pouring in.

Seedy sitting on a benchWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goal is to open up my own modeling agency, and in ten years I definitely see myself running my own agency. I want to start my own agency because I want to give the young ladies a chance in the world, since I know the feeling of being rejected because you’re not the right size, or you don’t have the right look.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I’m usually modeling every four days out of a week. I’m a freelance model but I work mostly all categories dealing with fashion, art and glamour, and others. Modeling really consists of hard work and dedication, and also energy. As of right now I mainly do photoshoots but I’m training to walk so I can go out for NOLA Fashion Week casting in December.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

One of my weirded out experiences was with my school photographer. I just felt uncomfortable because he took my Cap and Gown photos. Now that I graduated he’s taking my lingerie photos and that was creepy. My favorite shoot was with this guy I met through my cousin in Baton Rouge. He’s a real nice person but kind of creepy when you first meet him.

Seedy modeling a black skirtHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I remember when I did my first shoot outside in the bay water area. I had to change my clothes in the freezing cold and I bent over to take off my pants. My underwear tore in the back and this guy saw my naked behind.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

If I could change anything in the modeling industry I would change height. I would at least start it off at 5’7.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I still play volleyball for fun and right now I’m really not a healthy eater but I’m working on it.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

One thing I can say is I’m a music jukebox. You name it I’ll sing it.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I love myself the way I am and I wouldn’t change a bit.

What superpower do you wish you had? Why?

I wish I had superpowers to turn any and everything into Popeye’s Chicken. Why? Well because I love Popeye’s and I’m just darn greedy.

Interview with Hali Slone — By Day, Mother. By Night, Model!

Hali Slone is a 21-year old model residing in Georgetown, Kentucky.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello!
My name is Hali Slone, I am a 21 year old model that was born and raised in a small town in Kentucky, where I overcame the odds of teen pregnancy, and continued on to work hard and be able to do the careers that I love. I am currently the head manager for an entire gym named Snap Fitness, and I also have achieved my goals of becoming a model! My son is 4 years old, and is the absolute light of my life; my interests are unique for someone like me, since I am obsessed with Video Games, Reading, Cooking, and Fitness. I also do cosplay and guest appear at Comic Cons, as well as Horror Cons! No matter the odds, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams.

Hali Slone listening to an old radioWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first got involved by getting asked to attend a group photo shoot in Lexington, Kentucky, and once I started my modeling, my career took off. I have heard multiple times that I have a very dramatic and unique look about me, and have also met a lot of amazing people and celebrities, including Larry Elmore, who is the illustrator for Dungeons and Dragons -I am one of his famous fantasy characters now-, as well as the first Jason Voorhees. I started modeling about 2 years ago, and have stayed steady with my work since then, and has always been a passion for me, even though at first it was just a dream. When I found out that people were interested in my work once I started, I didn’t waste a moment and started working on my portfolio.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My personal goals would be buying a house, getting more sponsorships for my modeling career, being the best mother I can always be for my son, and continuing on with my college, to get my degree in Psychology.

My professional goals include having my modeling career take off, and be able to become a super model, even if my height makes it challenging, since I am a very short 5’0 tall even!; gain high enough experience to own my own gym one day, to let people know that they don’t have to look like a model to feel good about themselves. Getting up and coming to the gym is a huge step in itself, and is the path to a healthy lifestyle; become a famous cosplayer, and meet more of my idols in the industry.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I was modeling a lot for a while, probably a photo shoot at least every week. Once my portfolio was pretty much done, I cut it down unless the shoots were paid, or benefited myself in some way, since it is a very expensive career, and you must be able to know your worth. I usually do photo shoots, or cosplay at Cons, and I am a freelance model, but love my boudoir, cosplay, and fashion shoots the most.

Hali Slone wearing underwear next to a windowPlease tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My best experiences include becoming a fantasy character by world famous fantasy artist Larry Elmore; getting invited to a VIP party at Scarefest, which is the world’s largest horror con, by the original Jason Voorhees; coming in the top 10 out of 100 girls in the Miss Jetset 2015 cover model contest; and appearing as a Guest at Cons.

My worst experiences would include a photographer who got mad because I would not do nude photography, which I have no problem with, but it’s just a personal moral of mine; and the other one would be my first photo shoot, when I was so nervous that I was stiff, and had to learn the ins and outs of poses, facial expressions, and more.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I tripped at a photo shoot one time and fell on my face. I wear heels that are taller than my legs to my shoots… ok, maybe I exaggerated a little bit, but still!. I twisted my ankle, being very lucky I didn’t break it, and the shoot still went on!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

In all honesty, I hate the fact that you can get offers for really great opportunities, and then be asked to do immoral things to get ahead of the competition, and I am not a believer in that. If I am to win, I will do it with dignity and the right way, not sleep my way to the top. I was very naive to this when I first started, and some people who have money to spend on you will try and bribe you.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Let me get one thing straight, I have a terrible diet: I am obsessed with cheese, and other unhealthy foods, although I do slim down before shoots by eating salads, and dinners that will not bloat my stomach. Nutrition should be a more important part of my life, but I make up for the slack in my exercise, since my routine consists of running 3 miles a day, doing 150 crunches, 45 lifts on the leg machine, 75 side crunches, 30 minutes on the elliptical, and then sometimes I will lift light weights. Exercise is extremely important, not only for modeling but for anyone; it makes you feel better in your day to day life, as well as toning your muscles, building muscles, or just cutting your weight. It helps your mental state of mind, to make you more energized and happy. What is there to lose?

Hali Slone in a jaguar bikini next to a motorbikePlease share something people don’t know about you.

I mentioned before that one of my favorite hobbies is video games, and when I say I am the epitome of a nerd, I mean it; I collect video game memorabilia, especially Legend of Zelda -I actually have a real Mastersword-, I have a Pokemon tattoo on my side, and a whole wall of my apartment is decorated in posters, and trinkets from different video games. I also play a lot of Xbox, Nintendo, and Table Tops as well, as well as cosplaying as Link From Legend of Zelda, or Kitana from Mortal Kombat the majority of times I go to Cons.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I would not, because I am happy with how I am, and physically speaking, I have achieved so many of my goals already, and the fact that I can say that I am happy with my body is amazing, since it helps my mental state for my self esteem to be high. I suffer from Endometriosis, which is the leading cause in infertility in women, for which there is no cure, and it causes extreme pain all the time, as well as being diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Panic Disorder, it is an accomplishment that I can say I am happy with where my life is. I am in careers that I have always wanted to be in, and I have fun doing them; I am a mother of the most loving 4 year old in the world. What else could I ask for?

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I have an intense fear of Clowns, not dolls or anything like that, but people in costume, despite the fact that I know they are just regular people and I know it is not rational, but it will send me into a complete freak out if one acts like it is going to scare me. Funny Story, I had a panic attack form one a few years ago, and actually saw the guy again at Scarefest, where I was also appearing, and he remembered me! He said he thought he had killed me, and so we talked and now the clown and I are friends!

Interview with Freya Gallows

Freya Gallows is a 24-year old model residing in San Jose, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I grew up in the Silicon Valley and originally went to school for engineering before opting to spend my youth stumbling around the world without a plan instead. I don’t really live anywhere; I spent the beginning of this year living out of a backpack around Southeast Asia and Australia, went to Reno to spend six months building Embrace, which is a large art Burning Man art project, will spend the fall roaming and camping around California and the winter home-basing in New Mexico in order to hunker down for a few projects that I haven’t been able to work on from the road.

Modeling has been my primary source of income for the last five years, though I’m just as much a dabbler as I am a wanderer, and I’ve also gotten work teaching skiing, practicing Thai massage, harvesting beets, freelance writing, building trails, I did a lot of rock work on the PCT, operating heavy machinery, taking care of horses, and I’ve spent much of the last few years volunteering for Burning Man, for which this year I spent six exhausting months on the build crew for Embrace. It’s both my greatest fortune and somewhat limiting that I do not have a singular passion to devote my focus to, and that my interests diverge into a squillion facets.

Freya Gallows wearing black lingerieWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

The “how” came before I knew the “why”: Initially I didn’t pursue modeling so much give in to it. At twelve, I was a really tall, gawky little string bean and my parents were approached about my potential as a future model, though they thought it’d be damaging for me to enter that world as a kid, and I vehemently agree. Once puberty did its job, I was still tall and thin, but not “agency-standard” tall and thin, so I never looked into modeling as an option until I was approached by a photographer who told me about freelance modeling. After that, it wasn’t until two years after I’d signed up for a Model Mayhem account that I went to a shoot. I was curious and nervous but a bit reluctant.

At that first shoot, I unexpectedly found myself completely transformed, free to explore a character. Modeling has gotten me more acquainted with my own body, and with sides of myself I don’t often see: I’m not someone people would describe as glamorous, girly, flirtatious, or fashionable. It’s play and experimentation, and it’s freeing.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Well, I’m planning to spend next spring doing a modeling tour up the Atlantic Coast, Florida through Maine, on a bicycle. The prospect’s terrifying to me, which is why I’m making myself do it.

Otherwise, modeling-wise, I’d like to get my butt over to Europe for a tour; I’m thinking next summer I’ll skip Burning Man and do just that. And I’ve always got my mental fangirl-list of models and photographers I want to work with or meet or get to know better.

As for five- or ten-year plans, I don’t believe in planning that far into the future; I’m a creature of change, which I think we all are, if we’re experiencing healthy growth, and have no idea who I’ll be or what I’ll want in five years, it’ll depend on what I experience and learn in the meantime. If I try to limit my five-years-into-the-future self to pursuing what I think I’ll want, right now, then I wouldn’t have as much room to explore or change.

Freya Gallows wearing black dress in black backgroundPlease tell us about the most memorable experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

There was one time I got to crush a car with a track loader. Another time where we were interrupted by a herd of very curious cows; one came up and started licking my elbow. Another time when a hair stylist turned my hair into a three-foot-wide cloud, which I had on the one-hour train ride home. Once I posed in a zentai suit and ankle cuffs in an old elementary school that the photographer had turned into a studio, darkroom, and bondage dungeon, there was still a lot of memorabilia left over from its days as an elementary school, which added a fantastic dimension of creepiness to the place. One shoot had me wielding an oxyacetylene torch. I’ve done multiple-day shoots in national parks, I’ve done shoots where I’ve spent hours in a make-up chair, I’ve been suspended from the ceiling, and I’ve posed for daguerreotypes and ambryotypes.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Absolutely. I’ve been trying to change it in my own small ways.

When I modeled in Australia for the first time, I was shocked by how well I was treated; it made me realize fully, for the first time, how much I and other freelance models in America put up with being disrespected, emotionally abused, physically violated, and financially shortchanged, without even realizing it. Of course, many American photographers are great people. But there are also photographers who get away with a lot, especially if they’ve got a big name. I’m sure anyone reading this can think of at least one or two famous photographers whose track records of physical or sexual assault haven’t slowed down their careers.

I’ve tried to combat this by putting my foot down firmly about my own limits; I don’t allow myself to get bullied into anything, from posing outside my comfort zone to lowering my rate for no good reason. It’s taken a lot of trial and error and practice to get to that point, though; at a shoot, it’s hard not to want to be a people-pleaser and just get along, or swallow back frustrations in order to be non-confrontational. Some level of being flexible and easygoing is really important, but it can be hard to find the line between “easy to work with” and “easy to take advantage of”.

Freya Gallows with flowered headDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I don’t have an exercise routine, but I try to make activity a lifestyle; I don’t “work out” and what I do doesn’t feel like “exercise”. It’s just play. I climb rocks and trees, swim in rivers and lakes, snowboard and ski, scuba dive, do yoga, go backpacking, and have jumped on random opportunities to do everything from whitewater rafting to trapeze. I walk around small towns and big cities. I run around the beach with a few drinks in my belly. I play with dogs. I lose at push-up contests.

Nutrition’s important to me and I try to eat well overall, but I’m a bit of a gourmand. I don’t spend money on clothes or makeup, but I’ll blow money on really good beer, wine, cheese, or chocolate.

Sometimes people try to completely cut out “bad” foods that they love, like junk food junkies perpetually afraid of relapse. I personally think it’s a lot more effective and healthy to learn to practice moderation, and to find ways of preparing healthy foods so that they taste amazing without overloading them with sugars and fats and starches. I am very much anti starvation diets and cleanses, but I am pro juice fasting: I could talk about juicing all day, but for anyone curious I’d suggest the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Well, I can pee standing up. And my first language was Mandarin, before English.

Would you change anything about yourself if you could?

Buddhism discusses cultivating “beginner’s mind”; you can’t fill a full cup. I want to learn and do everything, to go everywhere, to never get too comfortable for too long and to never submit for too long to holding patterns, neuroses, or rationalizations. To always be getting faster and stronger, physically and mentally. To learn to be more compassionate, easygoing, open, and humble, to internalize that no one can “make” me feel or do anything except myself. To get better at living presently and paying attention. Lather, rinse, repeat, until my heart stops.

Interview with DeLauwn McCrimager

Dee DeLauwn McCrimager is a 25-year old model residing in Chicago, Illinois.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m from Buffalo, NY. I’m very close to my mom and I love my family, but not I’m a very family orientated person relating to some holidays and get-together. My interest in life consist on writing poetry because one-day, I’ll will be a great song writer for all the great singers. Also I love to think, just because inward meditation can be the best medicine.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I’m quoting drake “I started from the bottom but now I’m here”. But for me, I started in front of my bathroom door by taking pictures for practice. My mother was the photographer at the time by the way. And it definitely transcended from there on out. Working with great photographers and traveling city to city. “Man” What I say “God is great”.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goals in five to ten years is to become an entrepreneur and song writer. Just because modeling isn’t forever due to the fashion industry always wanting new faces.

DeLauwn McCrimager on top of a penthouseHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

As a freelance model who doesn’t have an agent right now, getting work can be difficult but once photographers see my portfolio, they become interested and everything else follows through. I mainly do photo-shoots at the moment but I wouldn’t mind doing runway for great fashion designers. The type of photo-shoots I always prefer is commercial, fashion, and editorial. And for a bonus, I’m the person bringing the clothes to the shoot because all my suits are tailored.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My best experiences from modeling is traveling. I been to NYC, Miami, LA, And Chicago. I also planned to go international as a model too. And my worst experience from modeling was my very first photo-shoot. Because it took forever to get my pictures back from the photographer. And to mention, I paid for the photo-shoot.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

My very first photo-shoot was a wreck. Not because I was a beginning since I did a lot of practice in the retrospect. But the issue was the photographer told me, his office was located in a center which has many studios. I’ll never forget traveling all over that place to find his office. But to come and find out, he insinuated everything to make it seem like he had an office there. I swear I was there for like 2 straight hours searching from top to bottom. And that center was huge but overall I still had a photo-shoot but not there.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Nothing because the modeling industry changes all the time. Most models say the industry is too critical and meticulous. But I’m very strong-minded from my upbringing.

DeLauwn McCrimager modeling a tuxedoDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I don’t play any sport, and I work out about like 3 to 4 times a week. My eating regime is pretty consistent, I usually eat chef salads or vegetables if I need to diet. I still eat my meats but I break it down in portions. And having a great metabolism does help too. Because being a model who loves to eat, I tend to binge sporadically.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

That I’m a stay to myself type of person. Not because I’m close-minded, I’m just very complex and mysterious to figure out. Which makes me intriguing and not boring.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I love being a perfectionist but I tend to over analyze some situations when it’s not necessary. So if I can alter that just a little, I’ll be alright.

What features do you look for in a partner?

Someone who’s loyal to me and passionate about their aspirations in life. You have to be caring and supportive about the love we share for one another. One last thing, they have to be beautiful inward and outward.

Interview with Yumi Kaeko — Creative and eccentric young model

Yumi Kaeko is a 19-year old model residing in North Hollywood, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Well I was born in Northridge, CA but moved a lot over Southern California throughout my life, primarily in the Inland Empire. I knew from a young age that I wanted to move to Los Angeles and pursue the entertainment business, fashion, modeling, and art. I graduated high school early last year and moved out to pursue a fashion degree at an art school in the Los Angeles area. I knew that the suburban, picket fenced Inland Empire had nothing to offer me.

I enjoy writing poetry, short stories, Japanese pop culture, going out, graphic design, dance, creating art, and singing. I have lot of active interests and am currently trying to nail down exactly what I’d like to do in the future. I’ve been writing since I was six and recently am getting another poem published. I’ve been interested in anime and Japanese fashion since fifth grade and have loved taking inspiration from these subcultures in my art and design. I also love rave culture: the fashion, the ideals and concepts, etc.

I’m currently a full time student, freelance model, and part time cam girl.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I’ve always been told since I was young that I should be a model because I was so lean and tall. At sixteen, I decided to make a Model Mayhem account and pursue building a portfolio before I moved to the city for college in the fall. I always liked the idea of alternative or kawaii style modeling. My idols were Amelia Nightmare and Japanese gravure AV models. I knew I could attain modeling in Los Angeles and took the steps to start modeling ahead of time.

Yumi Kaeko reading a magazineWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

There are a lot of different ideas floating around my head, but whatever I do career in the long term, I know that I want it to be creative and hands on. I’ve been mulling over pursuing graphic design as a degree because I love Photoshop and Illustrator. I have also been thinking about establishing my own fashion collectible. I’d also like to publish some books and become discovered as a visual artist. I’m coming out with my own personal membership site this Halloween and know that I’d like to continue in the gravure and alternative style of modeling.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I was modeling several times a month, but have taken a break to prepare for my site launch. My modeling was mostly glamour and fetish photo shoots because that is more my style of modeling. I occasionally will get editorial fashion also.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experiences I’ve had were a really funny photo shoot for a fetish and Burlesque show that I was a part of. It was Alice and Wonderland themed and a really good time to shoot. The outfits were really creative and kawaii and all of the people and models were very nice. The atmosphere was also very relaxed and I love that.
One of the worst experiences I’ve had was having a very unprofessional photographer. He showed up around thirty minutes late to meet, and he was a horrid retoucher. Among many other faux pas, he gave me seven fingers in Photoshop and didn’t notice until I pointed it out. Needless to say, I never worked with him again.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

If I could change anything about the modeling industry, I would make it less narrow. Being a mixed race model with a septum ring and usually colored hair, it can be hard to get photo shoots, even being thin and tall. I can’t imagine how much harder it is for other models who are petite or have more alterations. I think it would be great if the modeling industry embraced different types of girls more often.

Yumi Kaeko next to a mirrorDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I have never been one for sports, since I’m very clumsy, but enjoy exercise in the gym or regularly walking. I am an avid Zumba goer. I love dance incorporated into exercise because then it feels more fun and natural to me. I also currently don’t have a car, so I get regular exercise just getting where I’m going. I thought I would hate it when I moved out here, but now I enjoy going out and walking. Not only am I getting a light workout, but I also get to be a part of my surroundings and notice things I may not normally notice, like a new shop or grocery.
I’m a vegetarian and believe it’s one of the best decisions I could have made. I grew up in a household were my mother was on and off vegan or vegetarian, and our food was made from scratch and with nutritious ingredients. I think that made a big impact on how I eat now. I can’t really stomach fast food, and buy whole grains vs white, egg whites vs eggs, soymilk vs milk, and so on. I also live Cliff Bars and Naked juice. I value my future health and don’t usually have a taste for junk food, and if I do, I make a healthy alternative.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Something people may not know about me is that I love to cook. One of my favorite things to do is cook for friends and family or make a meal for myself. I have a great wheat, 4-cheese baked Mac and cheese recipe and I love making egg white omelettes. When I cook, I use lots of different seasonings and vegetables and love seeing other’s reactions.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change anything about myself, because everything I am has allowed me to be the strong young woman I am today. I used to think that I wanted to change my teeth or be taller, but I feel that my teeth have given me character and my height isn’t significant enough to change. I just wish I was as tall as my parents at least. My mother is 5″8 and my dad is 6″2, but I’m only 5″7.

What is the kinkiest thing you’ve ever done?

One of the kinkiest things I’ve ever done was shibari rope fetish shoot where I was completely tied up in a Japanese schoolgirl outfit. I had never been tied before, and the feeling was very euphoric and invigorating. It made me become more interested in shibari rope play. I’m already active in the fetish community, so shibari rope play became something I was interested in doing outside of the shoot with my significant other.

Interview with Claire — Model and Photographer

Claire is a 19-year old model residing in San Francisco, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born and raised in the south Bay Area of northern California. My family is culturally American, but we come from Scandinavian descent. Inspired by growing up in a liberal town in the heart of Silicon Valley, I learned from a young age how to be comfortable in exploring new interests. I consider myself an activist for many causes, but particularly gender and racial equality. As a result, I have become involved in numerous philanthropic endeavors while pursuing hobbies of mine. I have hosted and even performed in charity benefit concerts. I have been heavily involved in volunteer organizations since middle school, and still am with my sorority at my university. As a photographer, I love to take photos with a message; a shot that makes the viewer stop and reflect. I like to be able to convey stories and social critiques through visuals. As a model, I strive for similar standards by collaborating with photographers to also create images that express thoughtful ideas.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I created a portfolio and talked to various agencies in San Francisco during my freshman year of high school. However, after speaking with my friends who also model and discussing contracts, I decided the contracted model route was not for me. I wanted more flexibility– with my schedule, my responsibilities, and my shoots. I became a freelance model, and I have networked my way through the modeling industry.

Claire on a wheat fieldWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Since becoming a freelance model, I have modeled part-time because my education is my first priority. I am currently studying Public Relations and Marketing at a university. Next year I will be a sophomore, so I will have to focus on my academics before modeling. However, modeling and photography are passionate hobbies of mine. I will continue photography during the school year, and model in San Francisco during my summers back in the Bay Area. I would love to use my connections and experiences in the photography industry to develop a career in marketing and advertising. Nonetheless, I hope to never stop taking photos.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Since I am a part-time freelance model, I enjoy having the flexibility to collaborate with others on what kind of work I do. I have done runway and promotional shows, but I prefer photo-shoots the most. I have done glamour, fashion, art, and commercial, but I favor lifestyle photography. It is essential for me to feel comfortable when modeling, so lifestyle photography is ideal for me, as I can relax and embrace the thematic emotions. I get excited for every photo-shoot, but I love anything a little different with an interesting concept and meaning as well!

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My favorite part about the modeling industry is how many people I’ve met. I am inspired by other artists, so I love collaborating with creative designers. I warmly remember driving up and down highway one with an amiable and talented photographer; it was beautiful shooting on the beaches at sunset with such good company. I have had my fair share of negative experiences, which mostly consists of photographers being unprofessional. I have learned valuable lessons from each experience, so I don’t regret any of it!

Claire wearing a golden necklaceHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I was once painted silver from head to toe for a photo-shoot for a boutique’s jewelry line in San Francisco. My hair was teased into a huge nest above my head too! I had a lot of fun with the hair and make up artist; it’s always exciting to do a crazy look. After the shoot, I was walking down the Mission to get to my car, and the remarks from people on the street were hilarious! I got a lot of attention from people who were tripped out by my costume and thought I was an alien. It was weird and unsettling at the time, but so funny to look back on now!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

There should be less of a stigma against women who are at a healthy weight or are overweight. There should be more equal representation in women’s and men’s races. Less unrealistic photoshop should be used across the board to distort the public’s standards and expectations of the ideal human body. However, I am particularly passionate about how models are treated in the industry. Too often models are objectified by men and women behind the scenes.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Portion control is the most important factor for my diet. I get so excited about food; it’s hard to control myself sometimes! However, I try to work out every day. It’s essential to keep your body healthy and eat right. At the end of the day, being able to love and accept your body is especially important no matter what.

Would you change anything about yourself?

People are always changing and growing. Beauty does not last forever. I have pushed myself beyond what was necessary to maintain an ideal model body, but I have learned that conforming to such high standards will not truly make me happy at the end of the day. I will always find things that I could improve on, personally and physically. I will continue to strive to be the best version of myself, but I will do so for myself– not for anyone else. I believe that accepting and loving oneself is essential.

What is your favorite thing to do alone?

I love to go hiking and meditate at a rest-stop on the hike. It is so lovely to be out in nature and just relax. There are so many beautiful places on the west coast to explore!
