Interview with Camara-Elecha

Camara-Elecha is a 20-year old model residing in Los Angeles, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Camara Elecha Smith, I am 20 years old. I was born in Orange County, California to my father Carl Smith Sr. and my mother Yolanda Brown. I am the youngest of three children. As well as the only girl! My mom always told my brother and I that we can be and do anything we wanted as long as we worked twice as hard as the next person trying to take the spot we want. She also said that “even when you think you aren’t you are.” Meaning that even when you have a bad day and you think you’re completely far away from the goal you want to accomplish you are closer than you think. You’re closer than you were yesterday so keep pushing! never GIVE UP!

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

When I was 10 years old I would model and act in my bedroom to myself in the mirror! I always had the desire and dream in me to model and act but it was not until I was 19 years old that I took classes for both modeling and acting and fell in love with the craft and how much I could grow in it. I immediately began going on auditions and booking runway shows and background work for television! I began to live my dream and now I can’t stop!

Camara-Elecha modeling an exotic hatWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My personal goals would be to align myself with God’s will so that when one door closes and says NO! I automatically know that it’s not the door he wants me to walk through. I need that NO to be a catalyst to work harder for the Yes He is preparing me for vs. getting discouraged and quitting on my dreams. My Professional goals are to open my own community facilities for youth to provide a safe heaven for them to go to, to develop their dreams, prepare for college, and just be kids. I also want to continue to grow in modeling and be well rounded. As far as runway, print, catalog and campaign work is concerned. I want to branch into acting and have my face and brand out everywhere! In ten years I see myself accomplishing everything I just stated!

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I do runway, print, look-books and website editorials. All of these things consist of me preparing my body to be 100% capable of providing the client with exactly the image they are looking for. Alongside being versatile enough to adapt to any situation and any given time and still perform the way I know how!

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience I have had this far has been a certain runway show I had the pleasure of being a part and during the rehearsals women that have been modeling longer than me complimented me on my walk and asked me for tips to improve theirs! It was very flattering and such a humbling experience. I can’t think of a bad experience, I try to learn from everything I experience as it will help me grow and become better.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

One embarrassing moment would be me tripping on the runway!!! However things happen, and you never stop or quit! you keep going and make every moment after that so amazing that everyone forgets you tripped; and that’s what I did!

Camara-Elecha modeling a cream colored bridal dressIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I would change the height requirement!!!! I am 5’7 and sometimes I am overlooked simply because I am not 5’9 or 5’10. I have amazing talent but no one will ever see that if they don’t give shorter models a chance as well.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I’ve danced and played volleyball nearly my entire life. However with such a hectic schedule I just make sure I work out daily. It’s important to keep my body in the best shape possible so I can look great in any designer’s clothes as well as being able to deal with the sometimes long hours on shoots and fashion shows. What I eat is also very important. My mom always said growing up you are what you eat! Eating the right things will give your body energy and help speed up your outer body appearance alongside just being good for your body overall.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I dress like a body when I’m at home. Baggy shirts and big sweats are so comfortable!

Would you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change anything! I was created this way for a reason so I’m going to work with what I got! I can only get better!

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I absolutely hate spiders!!! I will scream, run, cry if need be and go into cardiac arrest if someone doesn’t kill it!

Interview with Candace — a courageous outgoing risktaker.

Candace is a 22-year old model residing in San Diego, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

My lovely name is Candace Carroll, friends and family call me just candy. I was born is Sunny Day go, I have two older brothers also an older sister; they have their families, I’m not at that stage yet in my life even though it would be a blessing to have God just knows when you as a person -well my case- myself is fully ready for that responsibility putting a roof over a family is.

My interests are more of a technique style in playing pool, loving the beach and the warm sun, My profession is criminal justice and a few languages, I am an outgoing hard-working woman and I don’t let anybody take me for granted; life is amazing but I always say “Life is just a mere chance, live it like every emotion matters, a mere chance is worth living for”.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

As an 18 year old fresh out of high school, my close friend was asking beautiful women to shoot for portfolios and offered me a try and I just fell in love with angles, dimensions and especially the beauty in this type of art, I may not be able to draw like a tattoo artist but being a model, being in front of a camera posing has beauty in it, the perfect lighting, posture, face and body angling is exactly what I love doing, making a new pose is my art, that’s my expression and I would love to be doing this for a very long time, beauty is always alive, it never fades beauty is everywhere we just forget the beauty in simplicity at times.

Candace on a bedWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My personal goal is more of a family goal, first is to take my parents out of this crazy place and buy a home for them to retire and enjoy their lives, I am the strongest person when it comes to them but also when it’s about them I’m the weakest, they are my strength and my weakness and anything I do, I want them to be beside me in moving up in this world, I see myself in five years being a lawyer and helping people fight for themselves and actually prove they want to change and live better than before, five years after that, I want to be a judge and just do good for people who deserve a second chance.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I mainly do shoots, it’s a very easy schedule. I model in fashion, erotic, glamour, editorial and commercial, the work hours are fairly simple. A few hours in a day depending on photographer, which I don’t mind whatsoever.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

Anytime I model I love every second of it, I never had a bad experience; every photographer I have had was very professional and respectful, I understand their viewpoints and their dislikes in working with certain type of people which understand can’t take criticism for their professional services experiences.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

In my few loving modeling years, it’s been a good one no complaints in any field, I can’t even think of one thing to be completely real and probably sad but it was professional and comforting.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

If I could, I would change the way that media portrays females to young children, that being skinny is in and being built bigger is something to feel bad about; beauty is in the eye of the beholder and only seeing beauty in one thing but not another shows for a narrow minded person, beauty is everywhere in the sky above, in the color of the ocean, the way every woman is, their motherly nature, the trees in the forest, animals, being in love and even feeling pain, pain is an emotion that brings color no matter how down a person is they way a person heart feels the inside of a person’s mind, body and spirit is beautiful, nobody should feel judged only by looks alone.

Candace at the beachDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I honestly eat as much as I can, I work out at night time after a long day, I eat protein, and fruit, being healthy in this industry is a great thing especially to promote health to young children growing up.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

Let’s see! I’m an awesome pool player, better than novice, better than beginner and rookie, just a little before professional, and I love being challenged; it’s the best thing to know someone expects you to be a better you, learning everyday to be better than yesterday, that is my personal self goal.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change a thing, improve yes, change, I’m God’s creature, I am beautiful the way he made me, if I was supposed to be something I’m not, I would have already been that but I’m not so I apologize if that answer was boring.

If you had only 24 hours left to live, what would you do?

If I had 24 hours on this planet to live, I would take my parents everywhere and anywhere they wanted in their whole life to visit and explore, my parents mean the world to me, I would want to see my last few hours just seeing them smile and happy for that will be their last and most emotional favorite memory of their baby girl, their little girl, to make my parents happy will be a great ending to my life.

Interview with Paraseau Bear — Fiery Phoenix w a Heart of Gold

Paraseau Bear is a 25-year old model residing in Los Angeles, Callifornia.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi I’m Paraseau. I’m an image and sound maker residing in Los Angeles. I love telling stories.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I became involved in modeling when I realized I’d get jealous of the girls auditioning for roles on the music videos and other projects I was making that I to wanted to be a work of art, an object of art as well as a creator of art. Jealousy I quickly transmute to inspiration and motivation and began pursuing a career in front of camera.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In five or ten years, I’d love to be gracing magazine covers, touring the world to sold out stadiums, collaborating with the most amazing designers, tour managers, costume designers, producers, and directors. My idols will become my creative family and I’ll start a family of my own. I’ll be proud of the woman I’ve become and what I’ve contributed to the world one day at a time through full surrender to the greatness bursting through me.

Paraseau Bear upside downHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Fashion, swimsuit, lingerie, editorial. I also act commercially and theatrically.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I’ve only had good experiences. I’ve learned so much about myself how to best support and express myself, take care of myself, how to collaborate creatively and artistically with others and how to be a living, breathing, moving work of art and grace.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

There are always embarrassing moments in set, trying to give the photographer what she or he wants, doing quick changes in odd places. It’s definitely an exercise in fully accept myself and owning my power and knowing every outtake just helps build laughter and relationships. Like I used to do this funny growling face that I thought was fierce until a photographer showed me what it looked like and it just looked… Weirdly demented. I had to laugh it off and find another look for the moment. You gotta be able to laugh at yourself, be easy, and relax into your happiness for the camera.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I think it’s great. I’m really happy that more sizes and shapes are being embraced. I’m curvy and have such striking features like red hair, I often thought about modeling but thought I wasn’t the “right type”. Turns out the industry recognizes beauty as beauty. Simpler than the voices in my head at the time.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I have been a student of yoga most of my life, and lately I’ve been running in the hills around my house several times weekly. I also took up ballet and hip hop. I love the discipline and the freedom, respectively. I also love that it’s a fluid moving art form and I get to be the embodiment of that art form.

I’m vegan and gluten free and all that other stuff that being in the industry in LA lends itself toward. It feels good in my heart and body to eat clean.

Paraseau Bear wearing a yellow dress and blue hatPlease share something people don’t know about you.

Although in a red head with light skin, my family grew up in and around Native American reservations most of my life due to my parents’ careers. So that culture and the spiritual practices of the tribes we lived with are very much a part of who I am.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I would maybe be a little less stubborn, but it’s a family trait and a lot of beautiful things have come out of the tenacity of it as well.

I would also maybe be a little more trusting of the Universe and not feel like I need to work hard at things and instead love in grace a little more.

If you were the opposite sex for one day, what would you do?

If I was the opposite sex for one day, I would make love to the most beautiful and kindest woman I know, I would wear the best business suit and walk into a meeting like I owned the place, and I would pee standing and write obnoxious things in the snow with my urine, I’d pull the move that the dude in American psycho does during sex and watch myself flex muscles in the mirror, and then I’d finally take a kid or a grandparent or both out to ice cream and pick up the kid and toss them in the air a few times. I might also dress like a girl and just see what kind of looks is get from people.

Interview with Meg Vega — The California Girl

Meg Vega is a 20-year old model residing in Santa Rosa, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Meg Vega. I am a 20 year old model in Santa Rosa, CA. I was born in Pleasanton, CA. I have always been a Cali girl and always will. I am the eldest of two. I have a younger brother, Mike. I was raised in a loving family with a firm grip. My dad was born in Japan, my mom in Germany, both on United States Airforce bases. So they came from a very militant background. My dad definitely wanted a boy so I did every sport known to man. I thrived in Field Hockey and Pole Vaulting in High School. Since then I have just been keeping up workouts at the gym. My family is very close knit. When you come from a German background on one side and a Russian side on the other you definitely stick with each other like glue. As my grandpa used to say, “We stick to each other like glue, we are gonna be ok.” In a Russian and Bronx accent of course. Now I work as an Assistant in an office here in Santa Rosa, however I hope to fulfill my dream one day of becoming a famous model.

Meg Vega topless with a jacketWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

When I was 16 I lived with my mom, and we were struggling with money. My brother just moved in with us from our dad’s in Oregon and I needed to make sure he was eating decent whole meals. My whole life people would comment on how pretty I am. I thought if I could make money off of that, I could help my family! No one in a college town would hire a 16 year old with our labor laws so I looked at agencies.

I found an agency in San Jose called John Casablanca’s Model, Talent Management. For a little background John Casablanca’s is the creator of Ford models. One of the most prestigious Model Agencies in the world. This division was more for everyday people. I was accepted that day but I had to pay 3,000 dollars for training. I did, sadly, and my first job was a Hair Show for Aquage a year after I signed. They dyed my hair, for the first time ever, and cut it in three shows on stage. I didn’t know that this was the best thing that could have happened to my career. It was going nowhere. When my hair changed I became different, more fashionable. People started to see me. I joined MM and One Model Place to get noticed when I went free-lance. Over the last year I have done close to 40 photo shoots. Developing relationships with photographers and other models in the greater Bay area, I hope to sign to a bigger agency and take some time to actually pursue modeling.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I want to be the first successful petite model. The industry has been changing a lot over the last few years. If I work hard enough and get the right opportunities then I can be the first successful petite model. For now I am working on the back side. Working the fashion angle. Styling myself to get noticed and get out there. Look like a model and soon you will become a model. Know the designers, know the trends and who is up and coming. Though, thanks to my height I will never walk a runway, I photograph tall.

Hopefully in a couple years I will be signed and five to ten be behind the scenes but still involved in the fashion world.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I model at least twice a month right now. Thanks to my two jobs it is hard to actually get out there and go to the agencies I need to and get my face out there.

The modeling I do ranges from Glamour to Boudoir to editorial. I have done quite a few styles. The one thing I do is I like to leave my viewers curious. I don’t show everything, I show just enough to keep them coming back. It is no surprise that I am a voluptuous model. I am not plus sized but I have some curves. So photographers tend to put me in lingerie or swim wear.

Meg Vega wearing a bikini at the beachPlease tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My best experience was with a photographer named Paul Mango Chon of Bittersweet mango productions. He was a class act. His photos were spot on and he was an all over good guy. He was so creative and stylized. He really launched my career. I got the most feedback from his images. Sadly he moved down to LA to actually work in the industry. But we still keep in touch. He is onto bigger and better things.

My worst experience was with a photographer that will remain unnamed. We had met and talked about shoot ideas. We wanted it to be a Grunge fashion shoot. When I got to the shoot, he wanted more and more articles of clothing off. It was leaning more towards porn than fashion so I had to walk off set and go home. That was the only shoot I have done that on.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Haha, yes, a few things but this is the funniest. I was doing a Swim wear shoot with Jim Parks, who is another amazing photographer. This was in San Francisco, CA and it was super overcast, which is not abnormal for SF but still, it was cold. Anyways I was taking pictures in some Beautiful Disaster stuff and he wanted some water shots, so I of course said why not! So I went to lay on the beach and a couple people were gathering around, watching us shoot and a giant freezing cold wave crashes down right on top of me. I started laughing and rolling up the beach, Jim collapsed in laughter and the people that were watching started laughing too. It was definitely embarrassing but I didn’t really care; it was fun and I was in a swimsuit which is supposed to get wet. haha.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I do have something I would change. The modeling industry makes every flaw a huge deal. “You’re too short. You’re not a 10 % BMI. You’re not a size 7 shoe. I feel like they would sell so much more if they gave people a more realistic hope that they can be fashionable. Let the woman with a C cup and a bodacious bum wear Louis Vuitton more people will want to wear Louis. If you let a 5’3” woman on the cover of Vogue I guarantee you people will have healthier goals. This prestige in the fashion industry is becoming a bit of an unattainable goal. Why would anyone want to strive for something they can never get to?

Meg Vega between two polesDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I love food so I have to exercise a lot. I eat three meals a day and snacks in between. I eat a lot of chicken and my favorite thing in the world is Zucchini sauteed in olive oil with Garlic salt. Taste just like french fries. I work out about five days a week. I start with running for about a mile before my workout. Then I do lots of squats and leg workouts, move onto abs, then last some arms. I have to be careful because my arms get very bulky if I work them out too much. Then I drink tons and tons of water. It’s my magic potion to a great body and great skin.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I am a car fanatic. I am currently tricking out my 1997 Mazda Miata. I am a muscle car kinda girl but I will die of excitement if I see anyone or any car from any of the fast and furious movies. I learned how to drift from my ex and I love racing on the back roads of Napa valley. Back roads = Less Cops = More speed.

Would you change anything about yourself?

Only one thing and that’s my height. If you could tell by my article already, height is a huge thing in this industry and that is the one thing I want. Maybe one day the industry will change and the time of short beautiful woman will rise.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Taco Bell. Crunch Wrap Supreme’s. I know not a model food…but it is so good!

Interview with Alycia Dean — Actress. Model. Performer.

Alycia Dean is a 22-year old model residing in Los Angeles, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I am just a small-town girl from Morgantown, West Virginia with big-city dreams. I moved to Los Angeles, California about a year ago to pursue them. When I’m not acting or modeling, I enjoy watching cartoons, spending time with people I love, and long walks on the beach, seriously!.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I had been modeling for the fashion design program at West Virginia University, and found myself missing it so much when school let out for the summer. I started traveling to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to shoot with the photographers up there, and got involved with local fashion shows as well. I don’t remember exactly when that summer it happened, but I developed a deep love for modeling. It’s been a passion of mine ever since.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Personally, I just want to be happy. I know it sounds cliche, but it is the most honest answer I know to give. Professionally, the same applies. I could be raking in millions of dollars, strutting my stuff down the red carpet and gracing the cover of magazines. But if I’m not happy doing it, then it’s all for nothing. That being said, I don’t see my happiness leaving any time soon!

Alycia Dean sitting on the kitchenHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I try to model as often as I possibly can. If it’s a slow month for calls, I go out and find work myself! Commercial modeling is definitely my forte. I get told all the time that I have a ‘very commercial look’- which I take as a compliment! There’s a lot of money in commercial work! But I love shooting fashion and editorial as well. It’s a challenge, and keeps me fresh as a model. I love the entire learning process of delving into something so outside my comfort zone.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I was on my way to Pittsburgh for my very first shoot outside of the university program, when I ran over a tire on the freeway, like a moron. I completely destroyed the underneath of my car, and I couldn’t make it to the shoot. I was mortified, but the photographer I was scheduled to shoot with was extremely gracious and forgiving; She even offered to pick me up! We ended up rescheduling and then shooting again several times after that. I consider myself lucky that this is my worst modeling experience, especially considering some of the horror stories I’ve heard.

Some of the best experiences I’ve had modeling were in fashion shows. In that moment, when you’re walking down the runway, everything else gets blacked out and you feel invincible. It’s an incredible adrenaline rush. Those moments are probably tied with being published in nationally sold, Gladys Magazine. Seeing myself on paper, in a spread, was definitely a moment too.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Oh, I’m horrible at sports. I’m so not athletic and wish terribly that I was. At the moment, I’m trying to learn how to long board, and that struggle is definitely real. I danced for several years as a girl, but dropped the classes when I got really involved with theater. I try to eat healthy, but if you put a bowl of ice cream in my face, it’s over.

Alycia Dean closing her eyesPlease share something people don’t know about you.

The first acting role I ever had was playing a police officer in the ensemble of ‘Pirates of Penzance’. The majority of us were girls dressed up as guys, and we had to sing the song really low and manly. I have the fondest memories of us drawing mustaches on each other backstage with eyeliner. I couldn’t stop laughing and my mustache came out pretty funky. Anyways, I don’t think many people know this about me, and it’s fun to reflect and see how far I’ve come as a performer.

Would you change anything about yourself?

As confident as I like to think I am, of course there are things that I struggle with about myself. There always have been. In middle school, it was my big lips. In highschool it was that stupid bump in my nose. Right now, it’s my small chest. But guess what? Now, I love my big lips. And that stupid bump in my nose? It makes me unqiue. And I’m sure I’ll get over the ‘big boob complex’ eventually, too. I’m slowly learning that gratitude has an insanely powerful impact on insecurity. The more I thank God for the wonderful things I am blessed with, the less I worry about those that I think I’m not. And there’s so much more to this world than the way we look. True beauty is on the inside, anyways!

How do you deal with rejection in the industry?

I remind myself over and over again that it’s not personal. I remind myself of how many beautiful, talented and successful models and actress were told ‘No, no, no’ before they got their ‘yes’. I remind myself that it’s a journey and to enjoy the ride. Just by auditioning and working in Los Angeles, I’m already living my dream. Again, gratitude is the key to all kinds of happiness.

Interview with J E M — Full-time traveling model

J E M is a 25-year old model residing in San Francisco, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Im Jaylynn, also known as JEM. I was born near Seattle in 1989, and soon after moved to Prior Lake, MN where I spent most of my childhood. I moved to Minneapolis when I was 18 to pursue a career in cosmetology, attending Aveda Institute. During my several months of school, I was involved in a few hair shows as a model. One thing lead to another, and before you knew it, I was traveling full-time worldwide for shoots and projects. Ive been doing this full-time for over 7 years now, and couldn’t be happier. I’ve lived near Chicago for a few years, then moved to Philadelphia for a little over a year. I am now currently based in downtown San Francisco for over 2 years now. I am still trying to push myself further in my career and continue to work my butt off; traveling and being a muse!

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

As I mentioned above, it was when I was 18 years old while I was attending Aveda Cosmetology Institute. I just started doing hair shows and runway shows, and quickly got into print and commercial work. As the years have gone by, I’ve gotten myself into all types and genres of modeling. I love shooting anything from fashion to editorial, lingerie and glamour, and even art nudes and bodypainting!! I never really planned for modeling, but once I started, I couldn’t turn back.

J E M next to a classic carWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I plan to stay in the industry for the rest of my life. Whether it be modeling, photography, wardrobe, makeup or even a booking agent or creative director. While I am still currently super busy with modeling, I haven’t had the chance to venture out with my photography much, but hope to get more into over the next few years here. I am constantly working on my makeup, hair and wardrobe skills, while shooting almost every day while traveling and always connecting with others in the industry.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I do tours, which last anywhere between one to four weeks. I usually travel more than half of every month. When I am traveling, I like to keep myself busy. I try to schedule at least 1 to 2 shoots per day. I usually hit up numerous cities on a tour, and stay in each city for just a couple days. When I am home, I tend to relax more and not book as many shoots. I use this time as my down time.

I mainly do photoshoots, but sometimes dabble in video work. I also get bodypainted and sometimes have to perform or promote as well. I don’t do much acting or runway shows, as I much prefer the print world. I shoot any style ranging from fashion to playboy style nudes.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

The best experience was when I won the “bodypaint model of the year” award at FABAIC a couple years ago. It was so much fun to run onstage all painted up and accept my awesome award & trophy!

The worst experience is when I had a heat stroke during a desert shoot several years ago. Luckily I ended up being just fine, but it was still a scary experience for everyone there. You get so involved in getting the best shot, that sometimes models forget to take care of themselves!! Always remember to stay hydrated and eat healthy, substantial foods before shooting!!

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Stereotypes of all genre. From photographers to models and everyone alike. There is just so many of them. It’s annoying.

J E M drinking a cokeDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I do yoga and ballast ball workouts several times a week, or at least try to. I also try to run for at least 15 to 20 mins a few times a week. It can become difficult while traveling, but just being on a shoot is a workout in itself sometimes.

I always try to eat healthy as well. I don’t eat any red meat, and minimal amounts of other meats. I personally don’t like the way meat makes me feel. I try to make my own food several times a week, so it’s a bit healthier. It’s important to get your daily dose of grains, veggies, fruits and dairies. Also multivitamins can be good too!! Even though it’s difficult to continually eat well while traveling, you can always find decent substitutes.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I don’t think I would. I am pretty happy with myself. Although it did take several years to get to this point. There used to be numerous things I was worried about and self conscious about, but with modeling and working on myself, I’ve become quite pleased with myself. Of course you can always continue to better yourself, but I think being content with yourself is one of the first steps.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Watching Disney movies. Not only are they all adorable and fun, they really have a way of bringing me back to my childhood. Who doesnt like that?

Interview with Veronica Dean — Bigger than this small town

Veronica Dean is a 19-year old model residing in Angels Camp, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi there! The name is Veronica.
Born in the city of Reno, Nevada, raised in the small town of Angels Camp, California. My parents own the ranch that has been in my family for three generations, my sister, brother and I grew up in the dirt around just about every farm animal you can think of. I love to paint, write, hike, read and of course model. I’m currently working part time and in the near future going to school for Kinesiology, Nutrition and Dietetics and Creative Writing. This small town seems to define people, they get stuck in the rut of a simple, easy small town life. Of course it is always what has shaped me into who I am and I will always have a spot in my heart for it, but I know I am bigger than what this town has in store for me.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I got interested in the modeling industry at a very young age, my dad bought a professional camera for his garden when I was about 6. I loved to play model when he brought out the camera, and once I saw the developed pictures I knew that I wanted to do it for a living. After that, beauty, fashion and health have been a huge part of me. When I turned 14 I did my first editorial photo shoot on location in San Francisco and once it was over I was hooked.

Veronica Dean wearing a pink dressWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goals for the future, for some, may seem beyond reach, ridiculous, and ultimately pointless to pursue. But my thinking is that we truly can accomplish whatever we choose, and whatever we put effort into. My long term goals are to be signed to a high end modeling agency -preferably Elite, Ford or Wilhelmina Models, after that I want to transfer to New York where I will walk in the Victoria Secret fashion show, and maybe even try for an Angel job. I realize how much work that all will be, but I am ready for the work and I am ready for the rewards of the work. Along with those goals I want to be a personal trainer and nutritionist in my spare time.

My personal goals, are to stick to my faith, stick to who I am, and not let anyone walk all over me. I can be a pushover sometimes, and in this industry that is a terrible quality to have. I also want to meet my fitness goals, if I want to be a VS model I have to be in prime shape.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Right now I am working on building up my portfolio, so I have been working with new photographers and new models. Editorial work is what I do most; lots of on location fashion, beauty and glamour but I have experience in runway as well. I’m 5’9” so I have a wide variety of job opportunities, I also have theater experience so commercial modeling isn’t out of the question either.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I wouldn’t say it was a terrible experience, for me at least. My boyfriend came with me to a runway gig once, and it turned out that only about 4 people spoke English, my boyfriend was stuck alone in the middle of this Russian party for three hours waiting for me to walk, not to mention we had a 3 hour drive home and we ended around 12. Needless to say he wasn’t in any rush to come to my next runway job.

Veronica Dean walking in the woodsHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

When I was trying to get a little more experience I found the modeling school Barbizon. I applied online and only two hours later they called me back and asked me to come to San Francisco for an interview. I eventually went to the school and at the end of the year my teacher asked if I wanted to come back to the school for the next semester as a teacher’s assistant. I came back to help teach and met so many of the wonderful models that taught there, I took away so much more knowledge than I thought I had to learn. It’s not exactly extraordinary but it was definitely an experience that I won’t ever forget.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

This industry is fast, hard and cut throat. And it clearly is not for everyone, but that doesn’t mean it needs to project such a ludicrous idea of what we need to be to be beautiful. Girls as young as 8 have eating disorders, that is absurd and needs to be stopped. I would love to see flexibility on the idealistics of the industry.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I was a cheerleader up until this last year so naturally I had to find other ways to stay in shape. I have always been highly drawn to fitness and once I started practicing my own exercise routines I knew I wanted to go to school for it so I can help people with their fitness journeys. I typically workout 5 days a week, I incorporate cardio, strength training and weight lifting in a routine throughout the week. As for nutrition, my mother has always been a health nut so I have always eaten healthy, but recently I discovered the Raw Till 4 vegan lifestyle and have been dying to start it. With the choice of being in this industry, you have to realize the sacrifices you’re going to have to make, eating whatever you want whenever you want it has definitely been one of them.

Veronica Dean sitting on a wheat fieldPlease share something people don’t know about you.

I’m a total nerd, I love all the fantasy novels and movies, I can get enough of it. Not to mention all the comic con type TV shows. Once I get into a TV series, I’m pretty die hard. My bathroom is even Dexter themed!

Would you change anything about yourself?

I wouldn’t change anything about my physical appearance because God doesn’t make mistakes. However our characteristics are acquired and learned, and one of mine that I hate, is my ability to procrastinate everything. It’s really a curse and I aim to kick the habit ASAP.

Have you ever been in a brawl? Please elaborate.

I went to visit a couple friends at Sonoma State, when I arrived naturally at a college party everyone was pretty incoherent. My best friend’s ex boyfriend happened to be at this party, well a few drinks later he was talking some pretty high game. Annoyed with the situation he was creating I told him that I would fight him. Immediately regretting my decision it was too late. He grabbed my legs and threw me to the ground, after a few punches to his head he finally let me up. After I was on my feet I was incredibly pissed off, so I did what any girl would do and cheap shotted him twice in the jaw. May I add the whole party made a circle around us, in the beginning they didn’t realize that I actually wanted to fight, but by the end they were pretty silent.

Sarah Reiter is a 20-year old model residing in Long Beach, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m from Long Beach, California and have been in the entertainment industry since I have been able to entertain.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I first started modeling when I was 16, because I had always gotten bullied for my height, so I figured I’d put it to good use.

Sarah Reiter holding a suitcaseWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

One of the most important things for me to a accomplish is to become a respected, experienced name in the entertainment industry.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I typically do 1 to 2 photoshoots a month, usually fashion or editorial because I’m 5’11, fit modeling is harder because that is specifically for people that are 5’9. I hopefully in 5 to 10 years will have gained some sort of reputation or notoriety for bein a hard working, all achieving person.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I think some of the best for me personally, were the photoshoots as I got older because I became more knowledgable and confident in what I was doing. But some of the worst is when you’re in the middle of a shoot, and this impending feeling of dooms washes over you with the dreadful thoughts of completely failing and wasting my time.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I’ve had people actually contact me for photoshoots or projects, which was very surprising to me.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

No, because then it wouldn’t be the modeling industry, that’s just the way it is.

Sarah Reiter modeling next to a blue houseDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

Doing a really intense, cardio heavy workout every day when you wake up is really key to performing better in every facet of your life. It helps the brain to process and solve problems quicker and more efficiently, which is vital in this industry. But I really rely on Mediterranean food, because a lot of it is cooked in olive oil and spices, versus butter and salt. Key components right there.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m a huge smart ass with a mouth that has a huge attitude.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I really could go on for days about that, but I guess I would change the part of myself that is always putting me down.

Do you have any fears or phobias?

I could seriously give myself an an aneurism with my germaphobia.

Interview with DeLauwn McCrimager

Dee DeLauwn McCrimager is a 25-year old model residing in Chicago, Illinois.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m from Buffalo, NY. I’m very close to my mom and I love my family, but not I’m a very family orientated person relating to some holidays and get-together. My interest in life consist on writing poetry because one-day, I’ll will be a great song writer for all the great singers. Also I love to think, just because inward meditation can be the best medicine.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I’m quoting drake “I started from the bottom but now I’m here”. But for me, I started in front of my bathroom door by taking pictures for practice. My mother was the photographer at the time by the way. And it definitely transcended from there on out. Working with great photographers and traveling city to city. “Man” What I say “God is great”.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goals in five to ten years is to become an entrepreneur and song writer. Just because modeling isn’t forever due to the fashion industry always wanting new faces.

DeLauwn McCrimager on top of a penthouseHow often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

As a freelance model who doesn’t have an agent right now, getting work can be difficult but once photographers see my portfolio, they become interested and everything else follows through. I mainly do photo-shoots at the moment but I wouldn’t mind doing runway for great fashion designers. The type of photo-shoots I always prefer is commercial, fashion, and editorial. And for a bonus, I’m the person bringing the clothes to the shoot because all my suits are tailored.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My best experiences from modeling is traveling. I been to NYC, Miami, LA, And Chicago. I also planned to go international as a model too. And my worst experience from modeling was my very first photo-shoot. Because it took forever to get my pictures back from the photographer. And to mention, I paid for the photo-shoot.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

My very first photo-shoot was a wreck. Not because I was a beginning since I did a lot of practice in the retrospect. But the issue was the photographer told me, his office was located in a center which has many studios. I’ll never forget traveling all over that place to find his office. But to come and find out, he insinuated everything to make it seem like he had an office there. I swear I was there for like 2 straight hours searching from top to bottom. And that center was huge but overall I still had a photo-shoot but not there.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Nothing because the modeling industry changes all the time. Most models say the industry is too critical and meticulous. But I’m very strong-minded from my upbringing.

DeLauwn McCrimager modeling a tuxedoDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I don’t play any sport, and I work out about like 3 to 4 times a week. My eating regime is pretty consistent, I usually eat chef salads or vegetables if I need to diet. I still eat my meats but I break it down in portions. And having a great metabolism does help too. Because being a model who loves to eat, I tend to binge sporadically.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

That I’m a stay to myself type of person. Not because I’m close-minded, I’m just very complex and mysterious to figure out. Which makes me intriguing and not boring.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I love being a perfectionist but I tend to over analyze some situations when it’s not necessary. So if I can alter that just a little, I’ll be alright.

What features do you look for in a partner?

Someone who’s loyal to me and passionate about their aspirations in life. You have to be caring and supportive about the love we share for one another. One last thing, they have to be beautiful inward and outward.

Interview with Jenny Austin — Actress and Model

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

Born and raised a southern girl in North Carolina, I am the oldest of three children. My family and I are very close and they have always been my biggest support system. Growing up, I was very involved in competitive swimming and dance. In school, I was passionate about English and Language Arts.

In early elementary school, I dreamed of becoming a writer and competed in many writing competitions. At home there is a closet full of “books” I wrote as a child. When I was still very young, I forced my younger siblings to perform in “plays” for our family and made my parents videotape our performances. I realized that performing in front of an audience is a form of storytelling, like writing. Movies and books were a way for me to escape and with acting, I loved that I could be someone other than myself and could explore living as different characters. I felt so inspired after watching actors in movies and I wanted to be that “escape” for other people. It wasn’t until after college that I moved to Hollywood to pursue a serious acting career.

At Elon University, I majored in Communications/Broadcast/Film. In Hollywood, my main source of income has been through entertainment and production jobs. I have been very lucky to be able to work in those areas and act on the side. I have some exciting projects coming up in the fall and I am so excited! Also, I love traveling.

When, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I have always been a little interested because of my height, but it was something I never really thought about pursuing until I was older. When I was a toddler and young child, I modeled in a few shoots. I was about 21 or 22 when I really started modeling.

Jenny Austin wearing a pink dressWhat are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

I hope to be very happy with whatever I am doing. Hopefully I will be married with children and living in Beverly Hills and working as a series regular on a sitcom.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I feel my look is commercial. That is a lot of the work I get. Also glamour and editorial.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

Any Cosmo girl would love being fitted in awesome clothes and getting hair and makeup done by the best! It’s like playing dress up, and playing different roles in front of the camera is very similar to acting! I’ve had a few awkward times with sketchy male photographers; it’s really important to be careful.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

I was a finalist to be Miss Cheerwine. I brought the judges Cheerwine-filled donuts. Enough said.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I would change the way people perceive the modeling industry. Models can be looked at as vapid and self-absorbed… but it is a serious job. I look at modeling as an artistic outlet for creative expression.

Jenny Austin wearing a black dressDo you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I love hiking Runyon Canyon and try to practice ab, arm and glute exercises every day. I don’t swim or dance competitively anymore, but still participate in both. I try to not eat carbs or breads, but definitely treat myself to pizza once or twice a week. I eat a lot of egg whites, chicken, salad, nuts, berries, fruits, veggies, Greek yogurt, nutrition bars, and other foods. I grew up eating junk because I had a very “YOLO” attitude, but I never realized how eating healthier and exercising would truly make me feel so happy and energized all the time!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I can lick my elbow which is supposed to be impossible.

Would you change anything about yourself?

I would love to be fluent in Spanish. I hardcore studied it in school and then placed out of it in college, and since I haven’t been practicing it, I forgot so much of it! I would also love to be a better cook, but I’ve never had the patience.

If you could trade closets with any celebrity, who would it be?

Dua Lipa!
