Interview with Carly Blasian Sheen

Carly Blasian Sheen is a 24-year old model residing in San Francisco, California.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I would like to introduce myself as an artistic, determined, intelligent being with more ambition than this world can hold! I haven been to hell and back and still bare the scars. My story is no fairytale and I am proud of who I am, a California girl who grew up a dreamer with 4 brothers and 4 sisters. I ran my household from a very young age and grew up much too quickly! But I am still here, still standing, and still strong.

I am a diamond in the rough and will never stop believing. When you look at me I want you to see my potential, creativity, class, and passion! I am a poet, model, dancer, and business woman! I am still becoming who I truly am and you will remember my name!

Do you have a nickname or artist pseudonym? Who came up with it and how?

Yes, “The Blasian Barbie” The name originated from my races being combined -Black and Asian- and I was always referred looking like a doll or barbie ever since childhood so it just rolled off the tongue!

Carly Blasian Sheen next to a wallWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I was first approached in 2007 at a Juneteenth event in Sacramento CA by a photographer who wanted to take my photo! He then gave me his card and told me to sign up for modelmayhem to receive the photos. After signing up I received offer after offer and had 7 back to back photoshoots booked, an album cover print gig, and a fashion show, so I kind of fell into it.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In 5 years I hope to own at least 3 businesses and have a bachelor’s degree. I am a business women and know marketing and business like the back of my hand. I want to expand from promotions and marketing. I also would like to publish a few books and maybe song write.

How much do you typically charge for a photo-shoot?

Due to high demand my rates vary, but I try to work within budgets and be open minded.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

My best experience was probably being paid $1,100 for Internet modeling. I made a lot of fans from the site’s exposure and had a lot of fun.

My worst experience was probably when a photographer kept trying to pursue me then refused to give me my photos when I kept my professional stance! Then threatened to black list me within the industry. Funny because now he’s a nobody and I have had the honor of working with many celebrities and major brands.

Carly Blasian Sheen at the beachHave you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

Not that I can think of, most of my bookings have gone quite well.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

Yes, the racism. It is much worse than people lead you to believe. I also wish it was based more off of talent rather than how far you will go with the hiring employer!

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I practice Yoga and Dance 5-6 days a week and eat well balanced meals. I feel if you eat good, you feel good, look good, and do good!

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I am a science geek and book worm, I read 6 to 8hrs everyday; I also love to write poetry.

Would you change anything about yourself (physical or otherwise) if you could?

Yes, I want plastic surgery!

Hi, my name is Nimo. Yes, its my real name. I am a Pop Artist who also involved in Film and Modeling. I have dropped my music video Rock Bottom on my YouTube page NimoNow and urge everyone to check it out! I am from the Bay Area and I enjoy trying something new. I graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.S. in Biology: concentration in Physiology. I am half East African and African American and I represent both cultures to the fullest! Life is all about the journey, and right now, my biggest journey involves me pushing my music. Feel free to follow me on Instagram (nims_charlie) and Twitter (@ladynimo521).

Nimo in a white tank topWhen, how and why did you first get involved in the modeling industry?

I got involved in modeling when I was invited to take part in a runway show. I enjoyed the experience so much that I continued to pursue the field. It allows me to be free and creative through art. I enjoy it very much.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

My goal is to never stop searching. I want to take part in everything this world has to offer and to not limit myself. I am a business woman as well as an entertainer. With the two combination, I urge and push myself to be the best I can be in any avenue I pursue. I love Music and Film so much that it is impossible for me to be sit still. In five to ten years, wow, who knows. I can’t tell the future but I want to be doing what I love to do when that time comes.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

I have an audition for film every couple of days and I get a modeling gig maybe every week. It varies of course, depending on my schedule and the open opportunities available. I do a lot of promotional modeling for film, fashion, or art. I do tons of personal shoots for my music promotions as well.

Please tell us about the best and/or worst experiences you’ve had so far in modeling.

I have actually been lucky enough to not have experienced anything terrible in my modeling career. The only thing that’s come to mind is time restraints. There was a case when nothing was going right at the shoot, it became a bit unorganized, but it was something out of everyones control. As for the best experience, I love being able to network and meet new people. What a gift! To meet so many different people from all walks in life, doing what you love to do as well. I love getting to know stylists and makeup artists. I’m such a people person that I jump at the opportunity.

Have you had anything funny, embarrassing or completely out of the ordinary happen during your modeling career?

While doing a runway show at EarthDay in San Francisco, my hair was placed in a bun. But it was a windy day and so when it was time for me to walk, it was fine until it tumbled down to my shoulders. I was completely mortified because it deviated from the original look, but then I had to work it. So i did. And I tilted my head and let the wind whip my hair ever so lightly over my shoulders. It was fun later on but at the time I was stunned for a moment. Haha! the funny thing is, since there were so many extravagant designers at the event they probably just thought it was part of the show.

Nimo in colorIs there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

I wish they were more variations in size when it comes to upscale fashion show. I think it would be neat if they had a show with various sizes of women (small and large) working the runway show for each designer at the same time and the same event, you know? Seeing more of that would be exciting, i think.

Do you practice any sports and what do you typically eat? Please elaborate on the importance of nutrition and exercise in your life.

I love working out. I relish in the relief I feel after a workout, or any rigorous activity. I value my health and therefore, I eat pretty well. I indulge every once in a while but overall I am careful in what I consume. I feel that balance is everything. I won’t remove the foods and activities I love, but I am aware that too much of anything is no good. I go to the gym regularly, but when I can’t I make sure to complete my regiments at home.

Please share something people don’t know about you.

I’m pretty adventurous. Name a time and place, and I’m there. I’m always down for trying new things, especially food. The stranger the food, the more interested I am. Haha!

Would you change anything about yourself (physical or otherwise) if you could?

If I were to change anything, it is the fact that I can be a bit hard on myself. I’m learning that I am a bit of an overachiever, and if I don’t reach my goal I can be a bit of a grinch to myself. But no worries, I am working on it.
