Interview with Isabel Martinho — Scholar turned model

Isabel Martinho is a 17-year old model residing in Seminole, Florida.

How would you introduce yourself to our readers?

I was born and raised in Florida, while being brought up with portuguese culture. I am incredibly passionate about my studies and anything that has to do with knowledge. By the time I was 16 I was a full time college student and was participating in National Model United Nations.

My entire life I have been tall, and multiple have reached out to me about thinking about getting into modeling. After a long time of debating I decided to give it a chance at the age 16.

What are your personal and professional goals? Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

In 5 to 10 years I hope to have a masters degree and become a tycoon. I don’t plan on modeling for the rest of my life, I would like something more.

How often are you modeling and what does it usually consist of?

Modeling is on and off for me. I usually work about 3 times a month, since my main focus is on school. I normally work photoshoots that range from fashion to commercial. I work any type of runway show I can get my hands on.

Is there anything you would change about the modeling industry if you could?

There are many things wrong with the modeling industry.I think the most bothersome is the aspect of objectifying humans. Models are in fact humans, and I am not okay with being treated any less. I believe models are often treated like meat, and that is something that needs to change as soon as possible.

I used to play soccer for 5 years, after that I ran track for a year. I now spend my weeks doing yoga and going to gym for a variety of cardiovascular exercises and weight training.

Would you change anything about yourself?

After a few years of troubling teenage years I realized I will not be able to change anything about myself. That only leaves me one option, to love every little aspect of myself and tweak anything else with a committed work out routine.

What is your favorite thing to do alone?

My alone time is very rare, but I love to go to the beach and read a book when I have a little bit of time.
